Mountainside retreat

  • 5 of 5

My family of 5 had a relaxing, enjoyable retreat in this creekside home. It was located in a quiet, natural setting; with all the luxuries of being at home. The house was comfortable and was set up to allow guests to relax either on the 2 porches overlooking the creek, or in the large kitchen dining area, or in one of the two living areas. While at the house, we played in the creek, sat on the porch swing and listened to the music of the water flowing through the rocks of creek, and played games at the large dining room table. We could have just stayed in the house during our vacation and enjoyed the peace and slow pace of nature around us. However, this house is also in a central location where we were able to visit and sightsee the beautiful mountain area. We went zip lining at Nantahala, we swam and kayaked at Vogel State Park, we climbed up to Brasstown Bald, we hung out in Murphy, Hayesville ,and Franklin; and learned much about our history in Cherokee. If you are wanting a beautiful location where you can unwind from your daily hassles, relax, and enjoy the beauty around you then this is a great location. Thank you for allowing us to enjoy your quiet retreat.

It was cozy and private, nice and peacefull

  • 5 of 5

We loved this cabin, it made our Thanksgiving very memorable. We would love to stay here again. This cabin looks better in person - pictures don't do it justice. Our party of six plus dinner guests of 4 more nestled quite fine in this cabin. This cabin is tucked away off the beaten path. Once you get here you will love it. It is close to the grocery in Hayesville 20 min or less travel time. The stream below the cabin is soothing and is a great place to relax. The cabin had wifi which was perfect for us but no cell service here. We did have a land line for local calls though. I'd like to thank the caretakers for assisting us with our questions and concerns.

A nice setting but could use some upgrades...

  • 3 of 5

We loved the house and location, minus the big trout falling from the ceiling and knocking the tv cables off during the middle of the night and the smoke alarm beeping another night (the battery needs to be changed). We were able to get the tv working but the cables still need attention I believe. Speaking of TV's I would recommend a large screen TV. It seems a shame to have such a nice house and a small TV. Also I would highly recommend putting the street address in a prominent location. With it being our first visit we stopped at every house along the way looking for the correct house. The houses do not sit on the road so you have to go down each steep driveway to see what the address on the house is. There are no mailboxes to indicate this since the houses are rentals. Since there is no cell phone reception there it is difficult to pull it up on the phone. You don't realize there is no reception until you get there and turning around on a one lane road is a bear unless you want to go to the next driveway. Also did I miss something in a communication about the lockbox? We could not find it. It's not on the door but across from the door in a discreet location. We had to drive back down the road to get a signal and call the caretaker to find out where the lockbox is located. Needless to say after a long 6 hour drive, we were not ready to deal with this... I would recommend getting toppers for the beds. Also, I would recommend a humidifier for the downstairs as it has a strong smell of mildew. I realize this happens to basements but some people may be highly allergic to it. On a positive note the the house is well decorated and is in a quiet location. We may return now that we know how to get there...

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review! We have updated the info in the App with all the pertinent driving info and if the renter chooses not to use the app we will gladly give them detailed directions. There is actually a house number on the house but it is not easy to see if you arrive after dark. We will be putting an additional one on the tree . I'm sorry the fish fell, leather got old! It has been repaired. Batteries have been changed in detectors so no more beeping! We will take into consideration the TV and the dehumidifier. Hope you will join us again. Thank You Owners
