Born and breed in New Orleans and can't imagine living anywhere else. I live less than 5 minutes from this house, spend my free time running races, cycling , hanging out with family and friends and enjoying the local cuisine, fairs, festivals and being a tourist in my own City....so much to do and see. Come spend a few days with us and enjoy our wonderful City
Susan Sawyer purchased this house in 2003
My family of 6 had a fantastic experience over the Thanksgiving Holiday at Steve and Susan's wonderful home.
We were greated with a fridge stocked with something for everybody....Sodas for our younger daughters, water to rehydrate after a night on Bourbon for our 25 yr old, and veggie drinks to ease some of the guilt my wife and I had from all of the decadent NOLA food we ate.
The home was located close (a 10 min walk to Jacque Imos) to all of the wonderful eateries in the Uptown area, a quick drive to the shops on Magazine, and just a little further to The Quarter.
Our hosts were fantastic! We visit NOLA several times per year and this will be our home base going forward.
The photos of this lovely house are
accurate. Even so, we fell crazy in love with this charming railroad-car, single family vacation property. It is immaculate, roomy, homey and stylish. The details, like recycled wood shelving and kitchen island with cooper railing, or artistic, one of a kind light fixtures, show the care and love Susan & Tom have put in. The kitchen has new appliances and is well stocked with coffee, tea, filters, water, sodas -- even ice cream, beer & prosecco!
The hardwood floors are gorgeous and glossy and the house is well insulated; we didn't hear a peep from neighbors. The heating is superb on a chilly December day, and the big washer & dryer helped us get through a rainstorm.
The water pressure's great in the shower & the 2 full baths are roomy, well lit and stocked with soap, shampoo, towels, eye makeup remover cloths, Q tips & flossing aids. Wow! Very thoughtful!
The beds were deluxe and we slept like babies, keeping the back door open to hear the birds in the morning.
Although Carrolton is a couple of miles from the Quarter, I would not hestitate to stay here again and again! This is a
wonderful family neighborhood within walking distance of breakfast and dinner spots. We went to the very good Satsuma for a giant breakfast one day and, the next, walked to the delicious Luca Eats, about 5 blocks north, near the Carrolton cemetery.
We took Lyft & Uber all over, so happy to have easy access to magical New Orleans here at our home away from home. Susan is a complete gem, a sister from another mister! Great communication, generous, efficient. I can't wait to return! Loved this house, you will, too!
Very clean home was perfect for my needs. Open kitchen with each bedroom having a private bath and a guest bathroom. Back porch is great spot to unwind after a busy day. Have already recommended this rental to friends.
We reserved this property for a weekend event at Tulane (Navy vs Green Wave football and tailgate) and were thrilled with our stay! The house has every modern convenience you could want, comfy beds, relaxing back deck, and friendly neighbors who stopped to greet us as we drank our morning coffee on the front porch! Walk around the corner to find delicious Po-boys for lunch, or walk a few blocks further to the streetcar on Carrollton to get to other points in NOLA. The walk to Tulane campus was very easy and the ample parking at the house meant that we did not have to pay on game day. The friendly owners stopped by to check in on us to make sure all our needs were being met. We definitely recommend this to any parents who want to stay a few days to visit their Tulane or Loyola student - or to anyone who is wanting to visit the Garden District side of NOLA.
This is one of the best properties we have ever rented. The house was beautifully decorated and extremely clean. It was bigger than it appeared in the picture, and the pics don't do the house justice. The owner stopped shortly after we arrived to make sure everything was to our satisfaction, and he was able to answer every question we had about the neighborhood, restaurants, transportation, and great helpful hints. The house is in terrific location--quiet street within a few blocks of the trolley to the French Quarter, easy walking distance to Tulane and Loyola. It was so nice to come back after a crazy day at the french quarter and relax in peace and quiet of this neighborhood. The private driveway has a private gate and is long enough for several cars--no need to park in the street. A very special touch was the stocked refrigerator/kitchen with local brews, water, condiments, and coffee! Oh, there was a full size washer/dryer, powder room, and a comfy pull-out couch in the living room as well. I wouldn't hesitate to rent from them again! This house is especially great if one of your children are considering Tulane or Loyola...it gives you a great opportunity to get to the know the area around the Universities and and sample all of the wonderful things New Orleans has to offer!
I would recommend staying here when visiting NOLA over any other choices!
This neighborhood is clean, historic, peaceful.
The street car is nearby to visit French Quarter, Bourbon St., etc., close to highway if you are driving, close to amenities like grocery and walking distance to great little places like the Live Oak Cafe for breakfast!
The off street parking with gate is a plus. We loved the very CLEAN and artistically decorated house. The kitchen was fully stocked with tools and even had some nice local brews left for us to sample by the owner! Susan was very engaged throughout the process from answering questions and providing info leading up to the stay and through out our stay she was always available and super friendly. The home has two lovely bedrooms w/ private baths as well as a powder off the kitchen area! My favorites included the back deck for relaxing and congregating. We spent much of our time in NOLA, right there! Love the Artistic touches throughout and the beautiful landscaping outdoors which led to the cozy, homey feel. I wish it was mine to keep!
Thanks Tom & Susan!
