Lovely

Quiet little cottage close to the shore of Loch Ness. A small shop and café in Foyers, the next village along, plus nice walks to the Falls of Foyers, and in Farigaig Forest. Inverness is about 25 minutes drive away, Ben Nevis about an hour.

Kids and dog loved the beach, not so happy about the midges, but that's Scotland.

Well appointed kitchen so didn't need to bring sharp knives or caffetiere.

Fabulous getaway

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a mon-fri break at the cottage. The location and views of Loch Ness are simply stunning. The Cottage itself is very well equipped to cater for your stay. It really is like a home from home. The steps down to the pebbled beach were a little steep but safe. Our son and pup both had a little paddle in the Loch!

The garden is fully enclosed so ideal for pets. Communication with Turan was excellent. All our queries were answered promptly and our special requests were accommodated. All in all the Cottage was a fantastic place to spend some good old fashioned quality time with our teenage children and we hope to return one day.

Owner's Response: Dear Elaine, How kind of you take the trouble to write a review - and such a wonderful review too. We're really pleased you found The Cottage at Inverfarigaig as magical as we promised it would be. We're impressed your son and dog went into the water at the private beach in April ! And thanks also for the kind words about our customer service - we try to be as prompt and helpful as possible. We're delighted to hear you'd like to return and we'd love to welcome you all back some time. with many thanks and best wishes - Turan

Amazing

  • 5 of 5

This was an amazing holiday perfect location. The cottage was lovely and warm when we arrived. We visited the Black Isle and were lucky enough to see some dolphin's and seals. Foyer Falls is well worth a visit but is quite a climb back up. Our boys aged 5 & 9 loved the beach building dams with the stone and wood. It was also perfect for our dog who was the only one who took a dip in the Loch. I would recommend this cottage we loved it so much we have book one of the other cottages that Iain and Turan own for April before with left this one.

Cosy, relaxing cottage

  • 3 of 5

A very relaxing place to stay on the shores of Loch Ness, highly recommended for the peace and quiet. Cottage small but cosy with everything we needed.

Spent most of our time relaxing in the conservatory watching the wildlife. Looking forward to our next visit.

The perfect getaway - brilliant holiday home

  • 5 of 5

We were expecting this house to be a pieceful residence in the natural surrounding of the Loch Ness. I have more than 20 years of experience in travveling all of Europe and staying in holiday homes (private houses rather than hotels) and I have been through both lovely stays and holidays in smelly barracks.

This house is an absolute 5/5 experience. Of course, as this is a countryside family home you should not expect any extravagant luxury, but that is not what a house like this is about, anyways.

Overall the house was VERY clean, apart from some hair in the bed and on the sofa, which however obviously got there using the houses washing machine. I guess in a dog friendly house you can never avoid this. It was no drawback to the general experience whatsoever.

The house itself is spacious with two bedrooms - one located beneath the roof (very cozy) and the other one (a kids bedroom) the ground level of the house. The living room is a rather empty room, which we hardly ever used, as we spent most of our time in the house in the winter garden, which is located directly by the houses entrance. It is a little room with window fronts at three of four walls, allowing you to sit on the sofa, watch TV (a high quality flatscreen TV), and watch the garden and the sea at the same time. It hardly gets any more comfortable and relaxing than this.

Speaking of the garden: This is a very very nice aspect of the house. The only aspects one could consider negative are the rather high hedge arond the garden, which leaves you having to stand up in order to have view on the Loch Ness and (maybe) the fact that most of the garden area is covered in little garden stones / gravel, instead of grass. But that is a matter of taste of course. Starting the morning in this garden with the birds singing and the sea waving... priceless.

If you travel with kids, be aware that there is a bird statue in the garden, containing some rather sharp prongs, which might be a potential danger for kids running and playing in the garden.

It should also be mentioned that the house owners were outstandingly friendy during all conversation in advance to and also after the stay. We did never meet or speak personally, but the e-mail correspondence was very friendly and helpful .

Summing up: This was a holiday to remember and an outstandingly beautiful cottage by the Loch Ness. The ideal holiday home and 5/5 stars.

Owner's Response: Dear Julian and Sabrina, Thanks so much for taking the time to write such a detailed and complimentary review and for the 5 out of 5 rating. We're delighted you found The Cottage very clean and were so enchanted by the cottage, the views and the garden. We are sorry you found a few hairs - we have invested in a new extra powerful vacuum cleaner so it doesn't happen again. Thanks for the feedback and the fabulous review. We hope to welcome you again some time. with best wishes - Turan

The Cottage is in the beautiful, and peaceful village of Inverfarigaig on South Loch Ness with stunning Loch Ness views and many woodland, mountain and loch side walks starting from your front door. The Cottage has its own private beach which is ideal for BBQs and breath-taking sunsets. Within minutes of The Cottage there are other lochs, mountains and forests to explore. The wildlife in the area will also amaze you with many bird species, deer, pine martens, osprey, woodpeckers, red squirrels, bats and at night you are guaranteed to hear the occasional owl. Nearby Loch Ruthven is an impressive bird reserve and dolphins are seen all year at Chanonry Point on the Black Isle (40 mins away). The Cottage is an ideal base for touring everything the Highlands have to offer.

Fishing is allowed from either of The Cottage's private beaches. Visitors regularly catch brown trout and occasionally salmon. Sunbathing is also possible on the shingle beach some weeks of the year ! Please note, the steps down to one of the beaches are a little steep and there is a hand rail to help. The beaches are not suitable for people with mobility problems.
