About the property

5 Bedrooms 3 Bathrooms Sleeps 10

Welcome to Arbour House! Our vacation home may have originated around circa 1830, but it has been loving cared for and well maintained in the years since! Enjoy our historical home on one of the oldest streets in Niagara-on-the-Lake! A recent renovation of the kitchen and baths provides the character and charm of yester year balanced with the comforts of modern conveniences!

Arbour House is located in the neighbourhood called “Old Town” and is situated very close to the famous Queen Street where there are lots of shops, food stores, restaurants, live theatre, parks and ice cream shops! Need your morning coffee fix? You can walk to Starbucks faster than you can brew a pot of coffee! Even though you are where all the ‘action’ is, the evenings turn back to being a quiet residential neighbourhood, where you can enjoy quiet evening strolls or sit out in the garden and gaze at the stars!

When you arrive at Arbour House, the first thing you will notice is the Georgian style architecture surrounded by incredible gardens. Having once been a main attraction of local garden tours, you can explore the delight of seeing what this garden once was and vision we have of of bringing it back to its glory days! The driveway is a single lane and can accommodate two large vehicles or possibly 3 smaller ones.

To get into Arbour House it is an easy step up to the front door from the drive way. Enter into the front foyer to the central hallway that also has stairs leading up to 4 of bedrooms and one bath. The main floor has a central hallway, dividing the formal living room with the office work space from the rest of the house. The formal living room is at the front with lots of windows to observe the picturesque street views! There is lots of space to gather to rest, read or have a great conversation. For our hard at work guests, we offer a big desk that can be a quiet retreat from the rest of the house. Whether you are checking work emails or updating a blog or changing your Facebook status, this is an elegant room that is reminiscent of old fashioned parlors!

The main floor offers a bathroom with a walk in shower and a bedroom with a full sized bed. This is great for those of you who may have mobility issues or prefer to sleep on the main floor.

While the plank style pine floors are original to the house, the kitchen has recently been renovated with new stainless steel appliances and a much desired centre island with beautiful granite counter tops. This kitchen is spacious enough for two cooks! The gas cooker will inspire the home chef in you, or even better, in one of your traveling companions! In the summer months, the local road side stands offer an abundant selection of local grown fruits and vegetables. The refrigerator has a freezer component as well as an ice and filtered water dispenser. Are you the kind that likes bbq? The outside gas grill isn’t that far from the kitchen!

The section of the house with the kitchen, dining room, access to the outdoor patio area and the TV game rooms is very open. Full of natural light and a great place to hang out when you are all together! Use the dining room table for the convenience off the kitchen or when you want that feeling of elegant dining! The cooks and the clean-up crew can still interact because of the open concept feeling! Just watch for the one step down from the dining room into the kitchen. There is also another door leading to the outdoor space off of the dining room.

Are you here during the big game? Maybe it’s a nail bending end to your favourite TV show? Enjoy the big screen TV, and on those cool fall/winter evenings, cozy up next to the fireplace! The TV and Game room open to the dining room is a perfect gathering space with lots of seating and overlooks the private patio area.

When its time to tuck yourself in at night, who wouldn’t love a relaxing soak in a deep tub? The upstairs bath has an inviting claw foot tub that invites you to enjoy a luxurious bath but its B-Y-O cucumber slices and bubbles!

Arbour House is a spacious 5 bedroom home that sleeps up to 10 people in beds. Upstairs has 2 spacious bedrooms each with a King bed, dresser and closet space. The third bedroom has a set of twin beds, also with a dresser and shelves. The fourth bedroom is the smallest with 2 twin beds. The fifth bedroom is on the main floor and can be accessed without any stairs. It has a dresser and is located across from the main floor bathroom that has a walk in shower.

Arbour House also has a Secret Garden House that can be made available for those that want a separate space to enjoy privacy, however, due to local regulations, we cannot permit the use of the garden house as a sleeping area. There is a 3rd bathroom here that is convenient for when using the outdoor space!

We invite you to come and stay at Arbour House, we believe that our vacation home will be a great compliment to your stay in our town and provide you with a real Niagara-on-the-Lake experience!

About Janet Trogdon

Our family has a long history in Niagara-on-the-Lake and we are so happy to have finally purchased our own home. We are a young busy family with hockey games, soccer practice, dance class and working for ourselves. For now, we are really pleased to be sharing our vacation home with you and we hope you will love it as much as we do. We have hired local, professional vacation home managers, Niagara Holiday Rentals, to take care of you and our home!

Janet Trogdon purchased this house in 2015

Why Janet Trogdon chose Niagara-on-the-Lake

From early childhood, our family has enjoyed coming to Niagara-on-the-Lake. When my parents moved here, we were delighted to have the opportunity to stay for weekends, holidays and have a great place for our children to visit for a week or two in the summers! We dreamed of one day having our own place here, thinking that it would be a long way off and part of our retirement plan. Then we saw Arbour House for sale, and well what can we say, we fell in love. Not only a great location in old town, its from an era steeped in history, traditional architectural style, and has the "bones" of being a truly show case home. The gardens needed some TLC, but that takes time and patience to bring them back to glory. We are so happy to have found something that reflection of our feelings towards Niagara-on-the-Lake, a home to preserve, cherish and love.

When we think of guests coming to our home and building memories, it only adds to the charm and ambiance of Arbour House. Once you cross the threshold you too may feel that you have stepped back a little in time and can experience what it was like back when our house was built in circa 1830.

While the historical charm is ever present in our house, the other big attraction for us was the modern kitchen and bath! While we love history, charm and ambiance. The convenience and comfort of newly renovated kitchen and baths was essential! Having the love to cook, the kitchen is thoughtfully planned and I really enjoy making families meals....especially a Saturday brunch! I just love waking up in the morning, walking to Queen street and getting some fresh, special treats! Also get my Starbucks fix too!

What makes this house unique

Located in historical old town, Arbour House offers the convenience to walk everywhere in town. Shopped to much? Just drop off your bags, and go out for more. The grocery store is just around the corner and all the food boutique shops along Queen St means you don't have to worry if you forgot anything to cook with, just pop out and get it.

All the Shaw Festival Theatres are within easy walking distance. If you have an event at the Prince of Wales, Queens Landing, or Pillar and Post, its just a stroll away!

Our home is one of the largest, offering 5 bedrooms and can accommodate up to 10 people in beds! The spacious living room, TV room, garden patio and dining areas offers lots of places to congregate or find that quiet nook to rest and relax.

If you love to walk or bike, this central location is perfect for early morning strolls, casual afternoon jaunts or evening saunters! There are beautiful gardens to see, lovely parks to explore, and sunsets to enjoy!

One of the nice things about Arbour House is that is a great place for old friends to reunite or families to spend time together. We strive to provide those comforts of home that will make your stay memorable!

Arbour House provides spacious accommodation with lots of room to spread out. The dining area, formal living room and TV room are big enough for everyone to gather in. However, if you want some quiet time for yourself, you can find a quiet place to work, read or just sip a glass of wine or have your morning coffee! The garden area wraps around the house on 3 sides, so there is lots to explore. After years of neglect by previous owners, we are working on bringing it back to its once show case status, but its a labour of love, sweat and dirty knees! The location is so close for shopping, theatre, waterfront parks and dining that its faster to walk than drive. Never worry about finding a parking space because you don't need to move the car from the parking area provided!

Niagara-on-the-lake has always been a tradition for my family to stay during special occasions. We rented Arbour house for my mothers 60th birthday. We had all her children and grandchildren (total of 10 of us) with her to celebrate her birthday for the whole weekend and we couldn't of found a better place. My mum loved every minute of it, including the house. She loved the old creaky floors and the old style house, she even joked about retiring and buying this house haha. The process was very easy and the customer service was excellent with all my annoying questions I asked before arrival. We had reservation for us at the Harp Pub which is always one of our favourite places to eat when in Niagara-on-the-lake. It was fantastic. The whole weekend was just so perfect. I would highly recommend this house for any occasion. We, as a family, will defiantly be returning to Arbour house on our next occasion. Thank you Janet and Debbie for making this weekend such a pleasure.

Mom's Birthday

  • 5 of 5

10 of us celebrated my Mom's 87th birthday for the weekend. House was great, (a few creeky floors added to its vintage flair). More room than we needed, and walking distance to shops and restaurants in Niagara on the Lake. We even took a great stroll to the lake/river. Did not need the car all weekend.

Thanks Niagara Rentals.

Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Arbour House this past weekend and had a lovely time. We were all in town from across the country (LA, Miami, Toronto & Montreal) for a close friends wedding and this was the perfect place for us to spend the weekend. There was so much room in the house to sit and relax and catchup, and we especially loved the outdoor sitting area where we held a lovely brunch on Sunday morning. The location could not have been more central and there was definitely enough room for all of us in the house. We even used one of the wine tasting vouchers when we were in town. We would definitely recommend this house to others :)

Mom's getaway

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Arbour House this past weekend and absolutely loved it. There were 9 women and the house is spacious and full of charm with a modern kitchen and bathroom. It is in a perfect location just steps from the quaint little shops and restaurants. I would definitely stay here again and will stay here again.
