About Jim Massey
My name is Jim Massey. I am a registered Civil Engineer, General Contractor, and Real Estate Broker, born in Winston-Salem. I came to Roaring Gap in 1965 where I met and married my wife, Nancy. She is a registered nurse with a specialty in surgery at Hugh Chatham Hospital in Elkin, and my partner in the real estate and construction business. We have designed and built many luxury homes, and intended this one to be our ultimate mount house. Nancy is an excellent amateur decorator, and it really shows in this home.
Jim Massey purchased this Chateau / Country House in 2009
Why Jim Massey chose Cherry Lane

An amazing house tucked away with a beautiful view was the perfect getaway with friends.
This house and property is a must see! A long weekend with friends in the middle of winter was a perfect getaway to enjoy this spectacular house and the surrounding area. With so many wineries in the area , golf courses ,and shopping, our weekend flew by and was most enjoyable.
This house has everything you need to feel comfortable and spoiled at the same time...will definitely plan to visit again!!
Thank you, Susan and John, for your complimentary review of our house on the Roaring Gap mountain. As you said, it looks across the Olde Beau golf course an mountains beyond, and is in an area of lots of things to do and see. Nancy and I look forward to having you come again. Sincerely,......Jim
A luxurious home, a quiet getaway
We contacted Jim about staying at his home in N.C., and it was the best decision we ever made for a vacation getaway. We were concerned because it was a little farther than we usually travel. We often rent cabins in the Smokey mtns., and sometimes use VRBO, but not often. We have rented Villas in Mexico 🇲🇽 through vrbo, and loco gringo, for the past ten years or more. We have stayed in hotels on our vacations since the 80’s. We have rented houses in Switzerland 🇨🇭 and Italy 🇮🇹. This rental has been the best experience of our vacationing life. Not only was Jim easy to talk to, he gave us local info, and let us know he was available if we needed “anything.” We wanted a quiet, family and friends getaway, for a few days over the New Years holiday. Our partying days are over, haha and we just wanted to unwind, and relax, and enjoy the fellowship of each other. I can’t say enough about this house. Exquisite! Every detail was taken care of. The mattresses on the beds were better than the ones at our home, tons of towels, two washer/dryers if needed, a gourmet professional kitchen, well stocked supplies, and enough room if you want some quiet time to read, (or nap) and lots of common areas to gather and chat. The weather was cold...and the home was toasty, with two separate furnaces, and a couple of firplaces. Large Televisions galore! I am not a golfer, but the golf course and clubhouse has many amenities we did not take advantage of.....but may the next time. We watched deer 🦌 in the mornings as we sipped coffee. It was toooooo cool to sit on the very, very, very, large outside porch...but it would be great in the spring/summer/fall. If you think it may be too long a drive for you, you are wrong. It is worth it! No matter where you are from! (We were from ky, and traveling With my wife’s mom and dad and we had to stop often, so it was a six hour drive for us) the house was better than expected, and the pictures are great, but do not do the home justice....I guarantee, rent this home, and you will not be disappointed! Thank you Jim for allowing us this experience.
Thank you, John, for the extremely complimentary accounting of your visit to our place in Roaring Gap, especially the house itself. After designing and building hundreds, I wanted this one to be my "ultimate mountain home". I really enjoyed meeting you and your family, and hope you can come back soon. Sincerely, Jim.
Labor Day Week-End 2016
We stayed with three other couples for four days and four nights over the Labor Day week-end. Our friends and us have been taking a trip every Labor Day week-end for the past 10 years and this place was by far the best we have stayed . You will fall in love with this house, we always have trouble obtaining places that have bedrooms equal for all, not here, there is not a bad room in the place. Sitting on the deck at night next to the fire place was a highlight for all. It is on a beautiful golf course and the ladies enjoyed traveling to the near-by wineries. We will definable be staying here again. Not to mention that Jim and Nancy are two of the nicest people you will ever meet. You cannot miss with this place, top notch!
A Terrific Home
My husband and I had the amazing opportunity to stay in Nancy and Jim's beautiful home in Olde Beau. Each and every extraordinary room was gorgeously appointed and yet so warm and cozy. We were here to visit my sister and her husband because of some serious health issues. Being able to return to this special place each day and evening brought great relief, calm, and rest to our hearts. Having coffee in the morning on their sweet and luxurious deck gave us a huge boost to start our days. We also got to see the new fawns grazing on the golf course tees down below. All very special. I love to cook and their kitchen was perfect! The olympics were on and with the two huge televisions easily seen from the kitchen, it made cooking even more fun. I could always find just the right pan, dish, and appliance to complete all that we needed to do. Their master bedroom suite was a delight, especially the huge bathroom with deep jacuzzi. I loved that! We had lots of fun as well playing ping pong, pool, and exercising in their creative rooms. Both Nancy and Jim were so helpful, friendly, and gracious in making our stay a wonderful one, even with the difficult circumstances. We would recommend them and their spectacular home in a heartbeat. If we ever get the opportunity to return, we would love to do just that!
Thank you Michelle and Norm for such a kind and gracious review of your experience at our home in Roaring Gap. After spending several years designing, building, and decorating our special mountain house, it gives us joy to have someone like you to stay here. We welcome you back at any time.........sincerely............Jim and Nancy
We had a family event in the area, and thought it would be a great opp for the whole family to stay over for a few days. In short, the house was spectacular, and had beyond the creature comforts. You can really tell that Jim and Nancy were proud of their home, and treated it accordingly. The house was well appointed and had all the amenities to easily cook meals for 12, and there were more than enough sleeping areas, and well as general hanging out areas. And, we ended every night by the outdoor fireplace gazing at the stars.
Stone Mountain Park is nearby, and we enjoyed a day hike to the waterfalls there. Very pretty. Afterwards, we found ourselves back in time at the Stone Mountain Country Store for ice cream, sandwiches, and an unexpected bluegrass jam session. It was a fantastic trip, and we're already trying to figure out when we can get back there.
Gene & Elise Crawford
Gene and Elise,
Nancy and I are humbled by your gracious evaluation of your family stay at our home on the mountain. We were proud to have you as guests and look forward to your next visit.
Amazing stay in Roaring Gap
Our family had a wedding at Olde Beau. We rented this property it was stunning. It became a hub for many of the activities, and we are already working on renting it for a week next summer. Everything is state of the art, first class. The owners went out of their way to ensure that we had everything. Rent this place if you want to make an amazing memory!!!!
Thanks, Tom, for letting us be a part of your wedding celebration. We are happy that our home suited the needs of such a large group at a very special time. We send our best wishes to you and your family, and look forward to having you come back. Jim
