Overview

About the property

This snug, open wood-frame cabin is great for your vacation or honeymoon base

This snug, open wood-frame cabin was designed to be your vacation or honeymoon base camp while exploring Acadia National Park. Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island. We rent it by the week (Sat to Sat).

The Acadia Getaway Cabin provides rustic traditional Maine private accommodations with cooking facilities and all the comforts of home! At twilight, whippoorwills call from the quiet forest. Overhead, stars shine bright. More than 100 miles of hiking and biking trails are just minutes away. Dine, dance, shop, go whale watching or swimming at the area's fresh and salt-water beaches.

The snug, tidy 16 x 20-foot cottage is located just off the Eagle Lake Road, one mile west of the park headquarters and less than four miles from downtown Bar Harbor with its shops, restaurants, schooner and whale-watching trips, and evening activities.

Acadia Getaway Cabin is not "secluded," although it is private. It is on its own short driveway, surrounded by trees in a quiet area of widely-spaced single family homes.

Accommodations include a comfy, queen-size bed in an open alcove off the living area. Amenities include a modern bathroom with shower, sun deck, television, DVD, WIFI (usually available), and local telephone.

Acadia Getaway Cabin is equipped with a six-cubic-foot refrigerator, microwave oven, hot plate, toaster oven, coffee maker, outdoor gas grill, dishes, and utensils. All linens and towels are provided, as are hair dryer, iron, and ironing board. There are heaters for cool evenings, fans for hot days and a soothing heat lamp in the bath. A wide selection of field guides, local histories, maps, brochures, and related literature is on the cabin's bookshelf along with scenic videos of the area and historical information about Maine's past.

Staying at Acadia Getaway Cabin makes great economic sense. Motel rooms, even without cooking facilities, cost much more per day. And few offer greater privacy or accommodations that evoke the rugged spirit of Maine's proud history and rustic traditions. We rent Saturday to Saturday with a few exceptions in the shoulder seasons.

About The Owner

We are a couple who camped for years, then fell in love with the Cabin when we rented it from the previous owner. We have been hiking, biking, kayaking, and enjoying the Park and the area for years, and it still holds more adventures. It brings us joy to share our "happy place".

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2001

Why The Owner chose Bar Harbor - Mount Desert Island

The cabin has all the advantages of camping; romantic setting in the woods, but it's weather-proof, comfortable, and clean! You can spend more time on the trails, kayaks, and bikes and less time setting up, breaking down, and trying to sleep at a campground. We have everything set up for you!

What makes this cabin unique

From the moment you see the entryway with a ramp wrapping around the birch tree, you will feel the appreciation of nature in and around the Cabin. It's so relaxing. Come sit in an adirondack chair off the back deck and stare into the deep woods of Acadia National Park.

Great Cabin in Acadia

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is perfect for a week in Acadia!! It is centrally located, between Bar Harbor, Southwest Harbor and Northeast Harbor. Easy access to the carriage trails with very detailed walking directions. The efficiency kitchen arrangement suited us very well for preparing a light breakfast with coffee, packing a lunch and dining out for dinner (we did cook lobster outside on the deck on a foggy Thursday for lunch and it was so easy and delicious we did it all over again Friday night!!). The cabin has heaters that quickly take the chill off when turned on for just a few minutes in the morning. The fireplace would be lovely on a cool night but we stayed on a week that didn't get too cool. Hosts communicate readily and are very helpful if you have specific questions. Plenty of brochures and a journal from past visitors provide information on things to do. There are very detailed hiking books on Acadia hikes and carriage trails which we found extremely helpful. Hosts even provide a backpack, binoculars, and a small cooler for your use. The cabin is comfortable, with good lighting, and space to unpack clothes (although there is no formal closet, there is a bar with hangers). We used the loft for storing our suitcases since we didn't need the extra bed. There is a house nearby which had guests, but the privacy fence and the arrangement of the two buildings is situated nicely so the neighbors do not feel too close. Check in and check out is a breeze. Thank you Margaret for providing such a warm and well cared for place!! I hope we can return some day and hike a few more trails.

The Beautiful, Cozy and Clean!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a very long drive from Ohio for this vacation, and were welcomed by this lovely and comfortable little cabin. The bed was comfortable, the cabin was very clean and with the exception of air conditioning, it has all the comforts of home. We had a wonderful trip, sightseeing, hiking and biking, and the cabin was such a special place to come home to every night. It is set back in the woods just enough to give you a sense of seclusion, yet it is a short 10min drive into downtown Bar Harber for dinner and shopping. I only wish we could have stayed longer! We really hope to come back again some day!

PURRFECT Acadia Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Last Autumn was our third year at Acadia Getaway Cabin. We love it there and find it the best spot from which to wander all over the park and yet zip to town for dinner after a long day of hiking or biking or kayaking. The sweet cabin has a nice fireplace ( with a supply of faux logs) that we love to cozy up to on the chilly evenings and those occassional rainy days. The cabin is tucked down a private driveway, nestled in the woods. Although the Acadia Getaway house is just next doors, I have never heard nor seen anyone there the entire weeks we were in residence because the properties are screened and separate. I particularly like that the cabin is back from the road, nice and quiet. A golden shower of leaves outside the window greets us each morning as we awaken. We really love the birch tree growing out of the middle of the walkway/bridge to the front door.

The kitchenette is small, but all we need for breakfasts, packing our lunches etc. But I have also cooked a great Spaghetti dinner in there with all the trimmings!

The cabin is also very clean and neat, not cluttered (and I am particular!) I would recommend this to anyone who visits the area.

Our Favorite Spot

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed for a number of years at the Acadia Getaway Cabin and it is great. It's far enough away from it all to allow us to decompress in the quiet woods. At the same time, it's minutes from town and the National Park. The owners have taken the time to make it comfortable and provide maps and local information while keeping the back-woods character that you get in an open frame cabin. We love car-free days of walking and biking to the carriage roads in the National Park or hopping on the Island Explorer to get around the Island. It's our favorite retreat and we come back nearly every year.
