Villa Kristina is perched above the outer harbour in Symi. Its 3 terraces enjoy uninterrupted views of the sea and the ships and yachts coming and going in the 'St Tropez of the Eastern Med'. Its elevated position is above a cliff garden just on the water front - no houses lie between it and the sea. It is a truly magnificent spot.
Symi: is the jewel of the Dodecanese islands - described by many as the St Tropez of the Eastern Med. It lies just 8 miles off the Turkish coast and can only be reached by ferry in one hour from Rhodes or Piraeus overnight.
Symi was a centre for sponge fishing in the 19th and early 20th centuries, and traces of its affluent past are visible today in the beautiful and stately houses which surround the harbour and flow over the hills above. It is a conservation area and all its houses are built in neo-Classical Style. This gives it one of the most impressive skylines anywhere and you can sit on the terrace all day and just gaze at the houses opposite.
Symi's harbour is a hive of activity in the summer with boats and yachts coming and going all day every day. It is a great spot for walkers though its mountainous terrain can be a strain in the summer heat. However, there are regular taxi boats to all its beaches, and a bus and taxis go from the town up to the village above - the Xorio.
Symi has many fine restaurants and good shops for groceries and produce. A regular ferry service runs throughout the year connecting it to Rhodes and Athens. Symi is only 8 miles from Turkey and you can take a day trip across to Datca to sample the different environment of Asia Minor.
The nearest beach to the house is Nos - less than 5 minutes walk - and you can walk into the town in 10 minutes from where you can take the taxi boats or buses, meet the ferries or eat out at one of the many restaurants. You can even simply walk down the path from the house and dive into the harbour for a swim. Wonderful!
There are a number of beaches on the island, mainly reached by taxi or tourist boats. You can take a trip in one of these all around the island, stopping off to swim and eat a reputedly delicious barbecue along the way.
You can also take ferries to explore Rhodes - a World Heritage City whose walled city is one of the most perfectly preserved of the cities built by the Knights.
The villa is a stone built house designed by the famous Greek architect, Alex Kalligas - who, with his wife Xaris, has almost single handedly transformed Monemvasia on the Eastern Peloponnese into a haven of beautiful design. It is built on the ruins of an earlier house, on three storeys. Because it is stone built it retains warmth in the winter and keeps cool in the summer. Harani enjoys more breeze than the main harbour which also helps to keep the house cool in the intense summer sunshine. The villa also has air conditioning throughout. There is a wifi connection.
The bottom storey has two rooms and a small shower room and toilet. All rooms open up to the large terrace in front which is covered with three large sunshades (can be rolled up). There is a small garden below and just the sea below that.
The middle storey has a large courtyard with seating area overlooking the bay below, and an outside dining table underneath an umbrella. Inside the house there is a well equipped kitchen, dining area and a family bathroom with washing machine etc. There is also another room with TV open fireplace and seating. This room could also be used as a bedroom in the summer when all entertaining happens outside.
Upstairs there is a mezzanine with a double bed plus a master bedroom with en suite shower room. All rooms have wonderful views to the bay below.
Really enjoyed our weeks holiday in Symi in this beauliful villa. The villa has a big terrace with views over Symi harbour which is great for relaxing and having sun downers (we had quite a few!). The accommodation finished to a high standard with cumfortable beds. It is a 5 minute walk to Nos beach and 5 mins to Symi town.
The villa is beautiful and lived up to all expectations. It is in a quiet location and we never tired of sitting on the terrace looking at the views and admiring the beautiful yachts as they sailed by. The villa had everything we could have wished for, very spacious and comfortable and it felt like we were in someone's home rather than just a holiday let.
The owner Kerstin could not have been more helpful, particularly when we needed to change our dates at the last minute. The housekeeper kept the villa spotlessly clean and Fabienne was on hand should we have needed her.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this villa located on this beautiful and relaxing island. We will definitely be making a return visit. Thank you so much.
As a Greece lover I have been travelling among the islands for several decades and Simi has definetivly become in of my favorite places. When last summer I had the opportunity to rent the lower appartement in Villa Kristina for a week and stay there with a good freind, we were very happy. Beeing away from the (relatively) noice and traffic in the inner harbour and still so close to everything is something we appreciated. I think the flat was just completed when we mowed in, everything was in an exellent condition.
We plan for and hope to come back again in 2008
Had such a wonderful time!!! Symi is undoubtedly the most wonderful little island with lots of nooks and crannies to be explored by visitors of all ages and with all sorts of interests!
Villa Kristina is truly breathtaking - sitting on the edge of the harbour, when you open the living room windows you get the most amazing view - truly typically Greek, exactly what we were looking for.
The villa was immaculately presented and wonderfully clean with excellent facilities. When my partner and I stayed for my birthday holiday, we especially liked our morning yogurt and honey or our evening Retsina and olives sitting up on the terrace, watching the boats come and go - very romantic!!
We weren't disappointed with what we booked, so much so that we visited twice in one year. The second time we stayed in the apartment downstairs, which was equally lovely and clean and had the same views from the terrace out the front. We are looking forward to going again in 2008, for the third time!
Many thanks to the owners....

Villa Kristina is located on the south-facing side of Symi's outer harbour, Xarani. It is built above the water and has unspoilt views of the sea and the entrance to Symi's inner harbour. Because of its elevated south facing position the house has spectacular views from all windows and no buildings between it and the sea. Sit on any of the terraces on a typical evening and you can watch all the yachts coming and going. On a typical summer evening it is wall-to-wall super yachts and Gulets. Licenced accommodation No: 4472.
