About Richard

I live and work in Boston and mostly use the lakehouse for my own weekend getaways with friends

Richard purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Richard chose Lake Winnipesaukee Area

An amazing escape from life and work in Boston. Just 1 hour 50 mins from downtown Boston, perched on the edge of a beautiful, secluded small lake and yet less than 10 mins from all the restaurants, bars, shops and activities of Wolfeboro and the much larger lakes Winnepausakee and Wentworth.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This cute cottage is clean, bright, modern and well equipped. It is literally perched on the water's edge with stunning lake views as well as fun water activities. Also within very easy reach of Wolfeboro's shops/restaurants, several public beaches and the big lakes.

The Lakes Region of New Hampshire is aptly named because of the many and diverse lakes in the area. The lakes Region has dozens of lakes ranging from something a little bigger than a mud puddle to Lake Winnipesaukee which is the third largest lake in New England and covers 44,586 acres and has 274 inhabitable islands on it. You can get lost out there! You'll find that the lakes all offer something different in terms of activities and feel. They all have their own unique character.

The lakes are what we are all about here. They are like jewels nestled between the mountains and they create the character of the region. And it's not that the Belknap or Ossipee Mountains aren't beautiful too, but visitors and vacationers as well as those of us lucky enough to live here all the time tend to gravitate to the lakes. There is just something about water...

LAKE WENTWORTH. Located in Wolfeboro, the oldest summer resort in the country, this lake is all about beauty, peace and quiet. Check out Albee beach, the Lake Wentworth state park beach and the Cotton Trail bike path.

LAKE WINNIPESAUKEE is known around here at the "Big Lake" or "Winni". It is NH's largest and busiest lake. Its length is 22.9 miles, width is 7.5 miles, and with an average depth is 62 ft. She is a great lake for boating, sailing, and all kinds of water sports and activities. The Big Lake is bordered by eight unique communities: Alton, Center Harbor, Gilford, Laconia, Meredith, Moultonboro, Tuftonboro, and Wolfeboro. You'll find great shopping and restaurants at each of these ports of call.

Museums:

We have many museums in town. Here are some highlights: The Libby Museum is a natural history museum at the corner of New Hampshire Route 109 and Lang Pond Road in Wolfeboro. It is owned by the town of Wolfeboro, and is open seasonally. Sometimes you can even take an art lesson there. The Libby Museum has a dug out canoe that was actually found in Rust Pond! You can also see a lot of animals local to this region. The Wright Museum is dedicated to celebrating Americans' sacrifices and achievements during WWII. The Clark House Museum Complex sits in beautiful Clark Park on South Main St. in Wolfeboro and offers summer programs, exhibits and tours of the historic buildings. The Barn is an 1840's antique barn under reconstruction by the WHS that will serve as a visitor's center, gift shop, archive and genealogy center. The New Hampshire Boat Museum is focused on the boating heritage and life on the lakes and rivers of New Hampshire. The museum founders, all active in the “antique boat world”, felt that a museum focusing on the impact that recreational and commercial boating had on the development of the lakes and tourism in the Granite State would increase appreciation, awareness, and help preserve these vintage craft.

Boating:

Rent a boat, jet skis or kayaks in Wolfeboro to enjoy lake Winnepausakee or take one of the following cruises.

Mount Washington Cruises: Daytime scenic cruises departing Wolfeboro Town Docks. Call 366-5531 for schedule of times and dates. There is no better way to see Lake Winnipesaukee from May-Oct than from the decks of the M/S Mount Washington.

Millie B boat rides: See gorgeous lake estates and boathouses aboard the Millie B, a 1928-style wooden boat, during a 30 minute narrated ride. Runs daily July - August. Weekends Memorial Day to late June and Labor Day to Columbus Day. Charters available. 399 Center Street, Wolfeboro.

Beaches:

In addition to your own private beach there are four public beaches less than 10 mins away (2 on Wentworth, 2 on Winnepausakee). Allen Albee Beach (turn left on Trotting Track Rd, then right and immediate left at end) is especially nice, the closest and free!

Movies, Festivals & Theater:

Check out a movie at the Villiage Theater, Great Water’s music festival, or play! Wolfeboro and the surrounding towns have many summer performances.

Biking & Hiking:

The trail is 8 miles long and begins at Depot Street in Wolfeboro and ends at Route 16 in Wakefield and has beautiful scenery, especially along the two causeways along Lake Wentworth and Crescent Lake. There are literally hundreds of hikes in the region including a number of easy to moderate trails close by. Don’t miss the stunning views from the top of several popular hiking spots. We are also about 50 minutes from the ocean and from the White Mountains for the serious hiker/climber.

Also check out Weirs Beach (Laconia), Gunstock ski area outdoor adventures, North Conway outlets and the White Mountains.

The perfect getaway...

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here the last week of August and it was everything we had hoped for. Right on the water, so peaceful, loved taking the kayak out on the water. The house was very clean and cozy. As mentioned by others, the tv remotes were a challenge but the wifi worked great for streaming a show on the iPad. Wolfeboro is a great town to walk around in with nice cafes and restaurants - just a short drive from the house. We would definitely recommend staying here and hope to come back!

Quiet secluded small home.

  • 4 of 5

Small secluded home with beautiful pond view with beach and dock. Beach is really not swimmable and there is no network/cable TV. Complicated Amazon TV with access to HBO movies and series. Allbee beach, vey nice and free, is 10 min car ride away, pack a lunch and bring your floats. Lots of activity in downtown Wolfeboro; market, restaurants and shops about 15 ish min car ride away. Great pizza at Louie's. Wifi works well. If you want a very quiet getaway with no TV..... this is the place.

Perfrekter Ort um die Seele baumeln zu lassen

  • 5 of 5

Quiet and Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect fit for me. I was looking for a restful, fuss-free vacation spot and this did the trick. The house is comfortable with all the necessary vacation necessities. The best features are the large deck and the windows facing the pond providing a gorgeous view and plenty of natural light. The TV system is complicated (to me) but I don't watch much TV anyway. I never had problems with streaming on my iPad. I would suggest providing quick instructions for the counter top dishwasher as well as a metal Tarascan outside--that would help reduce the number of trips to the waste facility. Wolfeboro is lovely and I was able to explore the area of Winnepasaukee easily. While I did not get around to using the kayaks, I did make use of the rowboat and pedal boat--relaxing! I would rent again next summer!

Quiet retreat

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at this little piece of paradise. A quiet retreat and a lovely pond. Place had everything my family with two young kids needed to get away and recharge for 5 days this summer. place was small but cozy, comfortable, and the environment was super conducive to what we had in mind. Relaxing, letting the kids play in the sand, a few trips in the provided boats into the pond and a short distance away from town where there was all you are looking for in a lakeside village. Thanks for everything.
