About the property

4 Bedroom, 2,5 Bathroom with Stream out back and great deck for lounging.

In the charming hamlet of Halcottsville is a renovated Victorian with its own sense of style. The house is decorated with vintage finds from antique and flea markets that give the house a retro feeling. The kitchen is the pride and joy of the owner who pulled the cabinets out of a building in Manhattan, had them refinished in Woodstock and used them to create a new custom designed kitchen.

Lounging on the deck while listening to the sounds of the stream guarantee many relaxing afternoons, and when it gets chilly, you can cozy up by the fire pit.

The house is close to local restaurants, shops, nature trails, ski areas and multiple experiences the Catskills has to offer.

About Esther de Jong

The owner has a passion for cooking which shows when you see this custom designed kitchen. The cabinets were a find from a building on the Upper East Side and restored in Woodstock by Steve Heller from Fabulous Furniture. The cabinets sat in the living room for a few years until, during a truth or dare game with children of friends, one of the children asked the owner if the kitchen was ever going to be finished. It was finally finished in 2014 together with the rest of the renovations to the house.

Esther de Jong purchased this house in 2007

Why Esther de Jong chose Halcottsville

Halcottsville is a lovely hamlet town located in the Western Catskills. It has lot's of old world charm and a wonderful lake in the middle of the village where you can go kayaking or rent bikes to go for a ride along the lake. The house is walking distance from the lake and there are lovely trails that run behind the house. The stream out back is perfect to cool off in on a hot summer day or just to listen to while lounging on the deck.

Perfect for a winter getaway!

  • 5 of 5

The house was lovely. Esther was very communicative and flexible throughout our stay allowing us to check out a little later so we could spend a bit more time away from the city before having to leave. She warmed up the house and had a bottle of wine waiting for us when we arrived. The kitchen is definitely one of the best features of the house. It's spacious with heated floors, great cabinets and fully stocked with pots, pans, dishes and general cooking supplies. The surrounding towns are cute and perfect for exploring. We ended up skiing for one of the days at Bellayre mountain, which was just a short drive away.

Don't let the high security deposit deter you from reserving this property. It's a great spot for a weekend getaway.

Very charming house with a great gathering kitchen.

Great weekend retreat with my adult children.

House was lovingly restored with beds very comfortable and immaculately clean. There was no air conditioning, which we knew and fortunately weather was comfortable.

Within walking distance was rentals for paddle boarding, kayaks, etc.

The deck area was lovely although the umbrella was no where to be found and cushions were off to side I assume because of the rain earlier in the day.

We had a lovely time and I would highly recommend this property.

Amazing & relaxing getaway

  • 5 of 5

This home is super comfortable and has many amenities. All the rooms have nice sheets, comforters & towels. Everything is super clean. The kitchen is well stocked and has everything you could possibly need for cooking meals AND the floor has radiant heat which was an added bonus for the cold mornings. Our children spent most of their time in the yard playing in the little stream that runs out back. We spent our evenings on the deck with a nice fire in the chimenea & roasted marshmallows for s'mores!

The house is also located near a pond with kayak rentals & canoes.

Beautiful Home - Better than the photos!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at Esther's home over New Years Eve along with a group of friends. We were eight total and we found the house to be very comfortable and the layout of the rooms perfect for a big group. The home was very clean and well stocked with towels in the bathrooms, everything you could need in the kitchen. The kitchen is really deluxe so if you love to cook this home is a treat. There are two dishwashers and two ovens! This is an older home that has been beautifully renovated. We spent a lot of time hanging out in the kitchen, dining room and living room, cooking and loved using the wine fridge and outdoor fireplace. We went down to Margaretville a few times for groceries which is a short drive away. This would be a great home to visit in the summer with the nearby canoe rental (right down the street) and creek behind the home. Esther was also very considerate in making sure we got to the home safely with snow drifts on our day of arrival. Highly recommend this home for an upstate getaway for a group or family.

Wonderful Upstate Stay

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I were looking for a large home where we could spread out, cook some big meals, and do some outdoor activities. This home fit the bill. The chef's kitchen was great and had everything we needed to cook meals together. And the rec room upstairs was perfect for playing card games and watching movies at night. We also enjoyed the kayaking and bike rentals about half a block away. We ate meals out on the large patio during the day and sat by the outdoor fireplace during the chilly nights.

The instructions at the house made everything easy, and the host Esther was very sweet. The owners also left us a bottle of wine and some fresh vegetables!
