Our family retired from the military at Ft. Bragg, NC in 2006 and moved to Alaska to finish raising our children. Randy started his second career working for the state on the Alaska Marine Highway (ferry system), and Colleen started a very rewarding job working for the Matanuska-Susitna Borough (MatSu) as a firefighter. That job excelled over the next six years to becoming an engineer with West Lakes Fire Department and an EMT. Our children are grown and live nearby with grandchildren arriving yearly:)
Colleen purchased this house in 2006
We recently secured jobs out of state that may become permanent. However, we're not ready to sell our house yet. We've put years into upgrading it, and we just love our home. We receive a lot compliments, and people wonder why we would ever want to leave. We're trying something new in our new found empty nest status, and are hoping to share some of the beauty and comfort of our home with others to enjoy.
We believe we have the best location on the lake for views and access. The lake is a peaceful wildlife breeding area with no loud speedboats or jet skis, although it becomes a roadway for snowmachiners in the winter. The lake freezes to about 2 feet thick making it a perfect place to ice fish, cross-country ski, or snow shoe. There is also a snow machine, ATV, and camper rental dealer in Wasilla for the very adventurous vacationers.
The home was amazing and looks exactly as pictured. We had 6 adults 2 of which stayed in separate bedrooms. There was more than enough room for everyone. Colleen was very helpful, and gave us great ideas, and tips. There was a canoe, and fishing equipment available for our use as well. This was a wonderful, relaxing atmosphere that helped enjoy our vacation. There is a store about a mile away called 3 bears that was awesome as well. They offer everything from food, ammo, to guns! Thanks Colleen for sharing your home with us. Can't wait to come back again.
My family of 5 stayed here for 2 months while we searched for a home to buy in the valley. Coming from Oregon and not knowing really anything about the valley or having access to most of our belongings I can't think of a better place to stay. Colleen the owner was wonderful to work with and so helpful in this transition. Grocery and gas is just minutes away. Commuting to Anchorage was about a 50 minute drive. Endless activities to do in the valley on the weekends. The home is very well stocked with everything you could possibly need. The views are to die for and 360 degrees. The beds are comfortable, beautiful finishing's and appliances, and two separate living spaces which is great if you have kiddos. We had a great stay, you won't regret it!
This is less vacation rental and more staying in a home. Everything you could possibly need is handy. Owners have spared no expense making sure renters feel welcome and comfortable. Location is fantastic. Secluded on a lake, but 5 minutes from a grocery store. Downtown is 10 minutes away. Easy access to all the tourist spots. Anchorage south. Denali to north. Perfect location. Appliances are top of the line. Views in all directions. Home is super comfortable all the way around. This is not your average rental. You have everything you need times 10. High recommended!
Views of Mt. McKinley within a short drive, Fur Rendezvous in February, Iditarod in March, halibut, rock fish, and salmon fishing charters from May through September. Year round rainbow trout fishing in the lake just steps away.
