About the property

Comfy, Clean, 3 Bedroom, 2.5 Bath Kinnakeet Shores Home Close To The Beach

Located along the Outer Banks Scenic Byway, close to the beach in the town of Avon. We're just south of one of the longest stretches of unspoiled National Seashore on the Outer Banks. Our comfortable, clean, 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath home in family friendly Kinnakeet Shores is ready for your beach getaway! Our home features city water, dual zone AC, recently updated furniture in the great room, and a Keurig machine for your use! With beds for eight, three decks, lots of new outdoor seating and two picnic tables for outdoor dining, this house is perfect for a relaxing vacation with family & friends. New for 2017 is the first phase of updated windows and siding, a new rear deck, and exterior paint.

Enjoy relaxing with your morning coffee on the upper deck overlooking a view of Hatteras Island. Spend your day at the large private community pool, playing tennis or just "beaching it." Walk to the beach easily in just a few minutes. Stroll for miles along unspoiled Atlantic Ocean beaches, collecting seashells and observing nature. Sit on the rear sunset deck at the end of your day and enjoy the beautiful colors in the western sky. An outdoor shower with hot and cold water will allow you a refreshing way to wash off the sand and salt as you end your day outdoors. In the evening, sit on the upper deck and feel like one with the starlit sky.

When you arrive at Sea's Calling you will enter the lower level which contains a washer and dryer for all your laundry care. The second level has two full tiled baths and three tastefully decorated bedrooms with memory foam beds. All beds are made with fresh linens for your arrival. In the first bedroom you will find a double bed and two bunks. The second bedroom has a queen bed and ceiling fan. The third bedroom, the master, has a king bed with an en suite bathroom, a ceiling fan, and its own doorway to the lower deck. Here you can enjoy a shaded area and the porch swing to read, relax, or grab some quiet time. Each bedroom has a flat screen TV and DVD player with DirecTV satellite access.

The freshly painted top level has a fully equipped kitchen and a spacious deck. Off the kitchen is a large open/vaulted area with living and dining space and a half bath. In addition to the breakfast bar seating for 3, an 8-foot farm table seats 8-10 people. The living room features comfortable furniture, all new since 2015. There is a 43 inch flat screen TV with DirecTV satellite access, Blu-Ray player and Wii system for your entertainment. TV service includes 140 TV and music channels. In addition, there are puzzles, cards, books, and family games for you to enjoy. Outdoors, there is a horseshoe pit, fish cleaning station, and a patio with grill, seating, and a picnic table. We offer free WiFi throughout the house. The famous Cape Hatteras lighthouse is only minutes away by car.

For your little ones, we have a Pack N Play, attachable booster seat with tray, and umbrella stroller. There is a safety gate at the upper deck steps and a collapsible one for inside use. There is a deck box with beach chairs, beach umbrella, chair cart, beach and pool toys. There is a cooler for your use. And if you visit during fall or winter, there is a warming electric fireplace to provide comfort and atmosphere.

Last but definitely not least, relax in the hot tub, located for all-weather use, and refresh yourself from the day’s activities. Whatever the time of day you will love it! And our service company will clean upon your departure!

About Gary and Mary Joyner

We have long held ties to the Outer Banks, and for years rented beach properties for our own OBX vacations. Having spent time in every OBX area, we feel a special affinity for Hatteras Island and the southern portion of the Outer Banks, as it remains much the same as it was when we first began visiting many years ago. We are both busy professionals and our time at the beach to decompress is treasured. Gary for years chased big game fish in his boats off the Outer Banks from the ports of Oregon Inlet and Hatteras. Now with Avon conveniently located, he loves to drive to the Hatteras docks at 4:00 and see what the fleet brought in, maybe following up with dinner while in Hatteras Village. Mary loves and enjoys the beach from sunup to sunset and we both enjoy being on the OBX all times of the year. Owning this home is the culmination of our dream for years to own a beach property. Enjoying the fresh seafood, shooting images of the natural beauty, enjoying every sunrise and sunset over the waters of the ocean and sound and sharing with friends and family all mean something special to us. Having this home in Avon to share with our guests allows us the opportunity to provide a comfortable and embracing place from which you can enjoy all the Outer Banks has to offer.

With our purchase in 2015, we began updating the home and have added several new pieces of outdoor furniture, a porch swing on the lower deck, a new grill, a new fish cleaning station, a new heat pump for fall and winter getaways, new bed linens, a new 43" flat screen TV in the living area, a new electric fireplace for the cooler months, new living room furniture, fresh paint on the upper level, and many new decorative items. During the winter of 2016/2017, we completed the first phase of replacing windows, siding and exterior paint. We will continue that process as the seasons progress, making Sea's Calling our own while providing a comfortable vacation setting for our guests.

Why Gary and Mary Joyner chose Hatteras Island

Great amenities such as the Community Pool/Tennis Courts, walking trails around neighborhood, easy beach access, and bike lanes through the village. The village of Avon is nestled within stretches of protected National Seashore, which helps preserve a special feeling of unspoiled beauty. Truly a three season location and close to the warming waters of the gulf stream offshore, Avon offers as much fun and comfort in the early spring and fall seasons as it does in the heart of summer. With proximity to the famous Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, and easy travel to the villages of Buxton and Hatteras, there are lots of things to do and see. Kinnakeet Shores is a quiet cul de sac community and is very kid and family friendly, with no through streets. Sea's Calling is an easy walk to shopping, beach access, and the community amenities area. If you fish, surf, SUP, kite surf, windsurf, kayak, or simply soak up the sun at the beach, there is something nearby to keep you engaged in your favorite activity. Sea’s Calling offers a comfortable and relaxing place to call home while at the beach. The home is close to Food Lion for groceries and various restaurants for dine-in and take-out. It is an easy walk to the Avon Pier with all its activities and fishing.

Wonderful experience!

  • 5 of 5

We managed to plan our vacation for days in between two major hurricanes. However, that didn't deter us from having a wonderful experience.

The home is very family friendly, beautifully decorated and adequately equipped. There were games galore, some movies, a porch swing, pots, pans, dishes, a portable high chair, baby gates and a pack n play. There were also beach chairs, a cart, some beach toys and some other items at our disposal.

This home is conveniently located in a neighborhood within walking distance to the beach, a grocery store and a few dining establishments. There is also a community pool available for use. We couldn't want for anything more, as we were traveling with a toddler, an infant and a teenager.

The Joyners helped make our experience as pleasant and inviting as possible. They were quick to respond and even messaged us during our stay to keep us up to date about potential issues that could possibly arise while Hurricane Jose was churning off the Atlantic coast.

If you are looking for a quiet vacation in a family friendly, hospitable environment, search no further. We look forward to vacationing at Sea's Calling in the future.

Fell in love with the area more than the house

  • 3 of 5

Typically we stay in the Nags Head area but we fell in love with the southern banks this trip! Avon is beautiful and quiet, a perfect destination. The house was really clean when we arrived and well decorated. The beds were extremely comfortable, all of them, which was a huge plus. The kitchen had anything you would need to prepare a meal & there were a lot of games and beach supplies available which was great. The walk to the beach was as advertised & the community has well kept paths which were great. Overall the house was OK, but the reasons we decided on a 3 star review are below.

-The hot tub was not in functioning order, a huge disappointment! We called the property management company and were told they had to order a part and they had no idea when it would be fixed, needless to say we never got to use it. It appeared to be a rather old hot tub so hopefully a replacement is in the plans.

-The mosquitos are BAD. I mean really bad. You could not walk to the car without getting a bite. Understand this is not the owners fault, but there was no bug spray provided at the home or even a note to bring some would have been nice!

-The horse shoe setup was not conducive to actually playing, the overgrowth in the back area was bad. Also, a new house was being built next door and the construction tape went accross one of the pitts.

-Multiple deck slats are loose/missing nails, safety issue when the house is advertised to be kid friendly. We just kept our toddler off of the decks.

-This last issue is more with the property management company, but we had fishing gear and a pair of sneakers disappear from the carport within the same hour time frame they had someone come take our trash out. The next day the gentleman came back to bring the trash can in and was looking around the carport before we asked him if he needed anything and then he left. Just a really thing to have happen in such a nice neighborhood.

Overall we enjoyed our 4 night trip, and are thankful for good weather that kept us at the beach 😎

Owner's Response: We are so sorry that your experience did not match your expectations or that of our other guests. We have worked hard to take care of maintenance issues and make upgrades since our purchase in summer 2015. We are committed to continue that process going forward. We make sure everything is in good order to begin the season. Things do happen, and when they do we make every effort to correct issues as they occur. We are disappointed that you did not see that attention to detail during your stay. We will do everything we can to address your concerns that are within our control. We hope you will give us another chance, as we have plans to continue working on the home to bring every aspect of the home and its features up to the high standard we would expect if we were guests. Thanks again for choosing Sea’s Calling for your getaway.

Great location and very welcoming accommodations!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week at Sea's Calling! The home has more than enough ammenedies to make you feel comfortable and "at home." We travelled with our two year old son and like other have said the house has several things to help a toddler stay easier:booster seat, baby gate, pack and play, and even children's books in the bedroom!

The home is situated in a great quiet neighborhood. The location allows for a short walk to the beach and a quick drive to the pool. The house also has carts for hauling all the beach nessecities which was a huge bonus!

The location allows for quick trips to several area restaurants. The grocery store is VERY close for any needed shopping. In addition, there is a fresh seafood market as well! We are looking forward to another visit to Seas Calling.

*one thing to keep in mind the home does have several sets of steps so if someone you are traveling with struggles with steps this is not the home to choose.*
