Spacious, beautiful, well-appointed, relaxing

  • 5 of 5

At a college miniruion, some of us stayed in the house and others in reasonably priced nearby motels. This property afforded lots of gathering spots both inside and out for small groups and large (the dining area is spacious, the living room huge) . Though we had to bring our own linens and towels, the house was clean and well supplied with platters etc, board games and gym equipment, comforters and pillows, and Elouise the caretaker said we could call on her at any time.. Lots of nearby vendors for grocery shopping inc Stew Leonard, Caraluzzis, etc. The dirt road is a bit tricky to navigate at night but we loved the privacy of this lovely place and are already planning a return visit.

BIG house surrounded by BIG nature

  • 5 of 5

We had a Memorial Day family reunion here. It was totally great. The house is huge and spacious with lots of modern amenities. The house itself is completely private and backs up to a park with a stream and walking path. Shopping centers, movies, restaurants and I 84 are an easy drive away.

Be sure to bring your own sheets and towels.

quaint large cabin spotlessly clean but spartan

  • 4 of 5

This cabin was as advertised. Large enough for an extended family gathering. The housekeeping was exceptional. For an old place it was spotless. It did seem strange to be spending as much money as we did ($1400 for what turned out to be only one night) and not get sheets, towels or even enough coffee for our first morning. I was charged $100 for an extra person when there were 7 of us and I am not sure why that was? I would recommend this place, but I think the owner could provide a touch more hospitality; sheets, towels, flowers, etc.

Pitch perfect

  • 5 of 5

It was a perfect choice for two couples and three single adults. The kitchen was fully stocked. The house was clean and the HVAC system worked well which was important because it was cold in CT and the house is large and multi-leveled. Also the ping pong table was a big hit! Would love to return in the spring or fall to take advantage of the outdoor games, including badminton and volley ball.

Although I grew up in southern CT and often drove through downtown Newtown, I had not previously been in this part of Newtown. My one recommendation is to try to arrive while it is still light because the approach is a narrow and windy road. Also, don't get alarmed if the GPS tells you that you just drove past the property as there is a sharp switch back down below.

I must have read the house rules too quickly because I remembered to bring sheets but zoned on the towels. Thankfully, Eloise was there to save the day. She even provided a simplified method of returning to 84 as my husband managed to leave his dress shoes in DC and we had to dash to DSW prior to the memorial service.

I have given the house a five star rating as the comforters were super warm and snugly, the furniture in the rest of the house was comfortable and the setting was peaceful. Some things the owners may want to consider, include the beds, other than the king, were too soft (but this is a personal preference so may be fine for some) and there was insufficient light to read in bed in the room with the full and two twins, as well as at the desk area in the tv room because the stem of the desk lamp is too short.

Yet, overall it was a hassle free experience and I am grateful for your sharing your home which is in such a peaceful location and reminds one of when Monroe and Newtown were still considered "the country."
