The house is surrounded by a beautifully wooded area, a brook, historic dirt road, as well as lake Lillinonah. There are nearby walking trails and always a sense of serenity. If you'd like to take a break from relaxing, there are some great places to eat, a winery, mini-golf, theater, and plenty of shopping and entertainment within a 10-20 minute drive. Check out the Guidebook / Map for a few of my favorite places.
The house is a ten minute drive from the center of town and a seven minute drive from I-84. The nearest train and bus station for picking up guests is Danbury, CT, a 20 minute drive from the house.
*Other Things to Note*
This house is located in the middle of woodlands / nature, it's likely you will see animals like deer, possums, insects, butterflies, birds, etc. This should be part of the charm for anyone staying here!
Native New Yorker who loves to travel!
This house was built for hosting groups - it's one of a kind!
It was a perfect choice for two couples and three single adults. The kitchen was fully stocked. The house was clean and the HVAC system worked well which was important because it was cold in CT and the house is large and multi-leveled. Also the ping pong table was a big hit! Would love to return in the spring or fall to take advantage of the outdoor games, including badminton and volley ball.
Although I grew up in southern CT and often drove through downtown Newtown, I had not previously been in this part of Newtown. My one recommendation is to try to arrive while it is still light because the approach is a narrow and windy road. Also, don't get alarmed if the GPS tells you that you just drove past the property as there is a sharp switch back down below.
I must have read the house rules too quickly because I remembered to bring sheets but zoned on the towels. Thankfully, Eloise was there to save the day. She even provided a simplified method of returning to 84 as my husband managed to leave his dress shoes in DC and we had to dash to DSW prior to the memorial service.
I have given the house a five star rating as the comforters were super warm and snugly, the furniture in the rest of the house was comfortable and the setting was peaceful. Some things the owners may want to consider, include the beds, other than the king, were too soft (but this is a personal preference so may be fine for some) and there was insufficient light to read in bed in the room with the full and two twins, as well as at the desk area in the tv room because the stem of the desk lamp is too short.
Yet, overall it was a hassle free experience and I am grateful for your sharing your home which is in such a peaceful location and reminds one of when Monroe and Newtown were still considered "the country."
Had a bachelor party there of 10 guys and we all had room to sleep and tons of bathrooms. Super unique space, brick floors, games, awesome outdoor space with a fire pit. Everyone really enjoyed the weekend. Thanks!
This place is a real find! I rented this home for a weekend getaway with some old college buddies and it was exactly what we were looking for. It is close to everything you need yet feels like you are in the middle of nowhere. The property is just as secluded and private as you would imagine. There are several wonderful hiking trails in the area including some that lead directly from the property itself. The house itself has a wonderful rustic charm while providing all necessary modern amenities. The kitchen has plenty of space and everything you need to prepare all your meals from a simple lunch to a lavish feast. The new and large charcoal grill is perfect for everything from hot dogs to steaks. There are several areas for dining include a large outdoor stone patio. There is also a perfect Wi-Fi signal which allowed us to get a little work done as well. Perhaps the best feature is the outdoor fire pit where we sat under the stars and swapped stories late into the evening. The host was very accommodating to our every request and able to provide everything that we needed. The only reason that I did not give it 5 stars is because sheets and towels are not included in the price and you are charged extra for more than 6 guests, however these things in no way detracted from our wonderful stay. I would highly recommend this unique and special place and hope to return again someday soon.
This property was amazing! My brother is getting married and asked me to plan a bachelor party. All he wanted to do was spend a weekend away from society with his best friends and this house was perfect for that. Even though it is only a few short miles from the highway you would honestly never know it. My cousin actually made the comment a number of times throughout the weekend that he couldn't even believe we were still in Connecticut. The house is amazing too. Plenty of space for the 8 of us. Everyone was able to have their own bed and basically their own shower. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking to get away with a big group. The entertainment center was also perfect in case the weather was bad. We were able to use the tv for games and Netflix to stream concerts while we hung out on the porch. The back patio was perfect for grilling and great for just relaxing at night. The owner of the property was extremely helpful and very receptive to questions and even provided a tour of the house when we arrived just to ensure we didn't miss anything. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed for the weekend. It was honestly amazing and I hope to one day get back here to do it again.
Feels like you are in the middle of nowhere, miles away from civilization, when in fact you are only about 10 minuets from the highway. The house is very unique and very cool. There is a great yard for outdoor activities and there is a lot of room in the house for rainy days or winter days. I would stay in this house any time of the year! If you want a nice get away that is not miles away from civilization then this is the house for you.
