Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cabin in Inlet - Forest View Camp

Affordable & Comfortable Way To Enjoy The Wilderness Of The Central Adirondacks

You can enjoy being in the wilderness while still having the comforts of a cabin. Forest View Camp offers a low cost alternative to a hotel room and far better amenities than a camper or tent. This is an updated original cabin which was built in 1915 & was used by Wesley Clair, one of the early road workers of the Gould Paper Company (now Moose River Plains). It is located very close to recreational activities in the Limekiln Lake State campground and abundant wilderness in the Moose River Plains. Situated in the central Adirondack region, Forest View Camp is located only 2 miles outside the town of Inlet and 12 miles from Old Forge.

Nearby activities: hike, mountain bike, day use of Limekiln campsite beach and boat launch, take a seaplane ride, horseback riding, boating, rent a pontoon boat, fishing, mountain climbing, beach activities, outdoor fire, grill out, read, relax on the front porch....

Nearby attractions & activities include the Vanderbilt's Great Camp Sagamore, the Adirondack Museum at Blue Mountain, The Wild Center at Tupper Lake, Bald Mountain trail to the Rondaxe Fire Tower, Rocky Mountain, Eagle Cliff, & Black Bear Mountain, WW Durant Lake Cruises at Raquette Lake, Big Moose Inn, The Woods Inn, Seventh Lake House, Limekiln Lake Campsite & Day Use Area beach & trails, Moose River Plains Wild Forest & Primitive Camping, Payne's Seaplane Rides at 7th Lake, Enchanted Forest Water Safari, Fulton Chain of Lakes / Old Forge Lake Cruises aboard The Clearwater, many seasonal festivals & craft shows, VIEW Arts Center of Old Forge, guided nature hikes by Gary Lee, and much, much more...

About Brad & Carol Foster

The Adirondacks (Inlet / Limekiln) is Brad's second home and he's been coming to Limekiln Lake since 1963. Carol & Brad were married in the Big Moose Chapel and have been staying here since 1997. Limekiln Lake is a very special place that is a pleasure to share with others.

Brad & Carol Foster purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Brad & Carol Foster chose New York

Forest View Camp has a rich history in this area. Originally built in 1915 using wood from the land, this cabin provided living quarters for the civil engineers of the time to build the road access system for Gould Paper Company, now called the Moose River Plains Recreation Area. The floor joists are hand hewn hemlock and the original pot-belly stove chimney still remains in the center of the camp (non-functional now). It was used for years as a base camp for hunters to access the remote wilderness of the Plains. Abandoned in 1983, it fell into a state of disrepair. It took nearly 2 years to refurbish, and now provides a very comfortable setting from which, you can thoroughly enjoy the wilderness. Camp Forest View is 101 years old this year.

What makes this cabin unique

People have described Forest View as a classic Adirondack camp. It is small, but is cozy and comfortable. Forest View Camp is a place that is off the "beaten trail" and provides convenient access to Limekiln Lake and the vast surrounding wilderness. Location, Location , Location ! Inlet and Old Forge are in the central Adirondack region, close to many fantastic attractions and activities. Nicely maintained and moderately refurbished, this cabin sustains its rustic character, while providing modern day comforts and amenities.

Great Family Cabin!!

  • 5 of 5

Just spent a fabulous weekend with my wife and 3 daughters at the Forest View Camp cabin! It was just perfect for our needs. It was rustic enough to get the Adirondack Camping experience, but also modern and very clean to make you feel at Home! Great Hiking trails are right down the road, with Limekiln Campground entrance visible from the Front Porch. We plan on making this an annual event!

We enjoyed our stay at Forest View. The location was great. The cabin was clean and homey.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed a campfire in the firepit at the back of the house. We brought our own wood, but the owners had wood available on site. Very convenient. The kitchen was stocked with a few essentials that you might not bring along; filters for the coffee pot, salt and pepper, cooking oil. We had a very nice stay.

Perfect Location for fun!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our weekend at the cabin. It is in a perfect location to access the Adirondack Park. The cabin is very nicely decorated and had everything we needed to stay comfortably and enjoy. We spent the evenings around the camp fire and the mornings on the porch drinking coffee in rocking chairs. We plan to enjoy this camp again!

Quaint little cabin

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Forest View. A very well maintained cabin with just enough space. The second night got a bit chilly and the furnace works beautifully. Loved the location as you can walk down through Limekiln Park. We also kayaked on the lake. Our friends met us here as they were camping and we had a fire in the back yard. Very relaxing stay.

Clean, but too small for a family.

  • 2 of 5

The cabin was very clean and tidy. However the two bedrooms did not have any privacy and since my husband, myself, my mother, and our 3 year old were staying there privacy was a must. One bedroom didn't even have a door and was more of a loft and the other bedroom was right next to it with a very thin door. The wall inbetween the two bedrooms did not even go all the way to the ceiling so there was a big gap at the top and the bedroom with a door had a huge opening on the wall facing the stairway so anyone who was going down the steps could look right into the bedroom. Another downside was it was very close to a busy road. This would be ok for a couple but not for a family with little ones.

Owner's Response: Loft style sleeping quarters were common in many original Adirondack camps built in 1915. It is a wonderful feature of this historic cabin and appeals to those who appreciate authenticity. Please review our photos of the cabin to view the upstairs area. Don't hesitate to contact us with questions. We hope you choose to stay with us and enjoy this location as much as we do!
