Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday villa in Pender Island - SunRaven

Secluded mountainside villa, southern balcony, ocean views, in-ground pool

Secluded and private, heavily wooded 4 acre mountainside property. SunRaven is restful and silent, but for the sound of the birds in the morning and the gentle winds in the towering fir, oak and arbutus forest.

The 1,500 square foot SunRaven villa was tastefully renovated in 2015 and offers three large bedrooms, each with queen-sized bed. One bedroom - the 'loft room' - also has a loft (7 feet up a ladder) with a play area and an additional queen sized mattress, ideal for children. A spacious, sun-lit bathroom has a large, walk-in shower. And you can prepare your meals in the well-equipped, kitchen or fire-up the barbecue on the balcony.

The south facing 60 foot balcony is sun-drenched from sunrise to sunset and offers breath-taking ocean views of the Gulf Islands and snow-capped Olympic Mountains. You can spend the day with a good book, or just watch the tidal ocean currents, the passage of sailboats and ferries, and the ever-changing hues of the wind on the water.

Cool off in the in-ground swimming pool (open June - September) with large sun deck. Or enjoy a walk through the forest and grounds.

When you're ready, Pender Island offers art galleries, bistros and restaurants, golf and disc golf. Or wildlife reserves, deserted beaches and beautiful forest hiking trails. Poet's Cove Marina Resort, whale watching, kayaking, artist studios and a weekend Farmers' Market at the Community Center.

SunRaven is walking distance from the Otter Bay ferry terminal.

About Stephen Alvey & Janet Mason

While I have lived and raised my family in Calgary Canada, as a life-long sailor, I've enjoyed sailing in BC's Gulf Islands while on vacations to the coast. Now nearing my retirement and ready for a slower pace, I explored moving to the Gulf Islands.

Stephen Alvey & Janet Mason purchased this villa in 2014

Why Stephen Alvey & Janet Mason chose British Columbia Gulf Islands

When we climbed the winding driveway through the forest to arrive at SunRaven, it was dusk - still and silent - and the air was fresh; almost instantly I decided that this was where I wanted to be. We'd found a secluded mountainside property, magical in its rugged natural setting with breath-taking views over the Gulf Island waters.

I've spent months renovating the SunRaven to enhance the experience here. Now I enjoy waking up here every day!

What makes this villa unique

For us, SunRaven is our sanctuary. After many years living a busy city life, I find Sun Raven a refuge, restful, natural - the hustle and bustle is left behind. At the same time, Sun Raven is full of possibility and creativity; you can hear the 'music' in the bird song and the wind in the trees, see 'art' in the ever-changing ocean view, the ravens circling over head and the Milky Way at night. SunRaven is a gathering place: we love to host friends and family here and there's plenty of room for everyone; when it's time to depart, visitors don't want to leave! SunRaven is simply a beautiful home in a magical setting.

We had a wonderful wedding weekend on Pender Island and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at SunRaven. Janet could not have been more welcoming and helpful with directions, suggestions for island activities and preparing the pool for our enjoyment. We would highly recommend her beautiful home, it's spectacular view and peaceful surroundings.

I was the first to stay at this secluded freshly renovated property. The owner was very accommodating and flexible with our arrival and departure times. Waking up each day to the sound of the birds and stunning views is just what my family needed. The pool and home is quite fabulous and ideally located.

Car: not necessary

Pender Island enjoys a sub-Mediterranean climate (known as the “Hawaii of Canada”) and features open farmland, rolling forested hills, several lakes and small mountains, as well as many coves and beaches. Two beaches very near to SunRaven are sandy and child friendly.

Pender is a safe, family-oriented community of people committed to a healthy lifestyle while preserving the environment. Whether arriving on Pender by boat across the Salish Sea, float plane, car, bicycle, or on foot, you’ll be welcomed with open arms. Known as the “friendly islands”, locals will offer you a ride at one of the many car stops or give you directions to one of the great places to eat or stay while visiting the islands.

Pender Island is a popular destination for cycling, fishing, hiking, boating, sailing, scuba diving and other outdoor pursuits. The island also boasts a 9-hole golf course and a 27-hole disc golf course in the forest. Pender Island has numerous art galleries, shops, and restaurants and hosts a variety of local events throughout the year, including the Pender Island Fall Fair and the Lantern Festival. On Saturday mornings during the summer, the Pender Island Farmer’s Market at the Community Hall offers local produce and handcrafts, as well as entertainment.

Pender Island is home to many artists and craftspeople who operate art galleries, craft shops, and studios. Painting, photography, jewelry, glassware, pottery, wearable art and antiques are just some of the many and varied art forms. Many artists have studio hours where you can make personal visits. Some artists also attend the Saturday Farmers Market and there is also an artisan cooperative – the Red Tree Gallery.

Pender is a choice weekend and year round holiday destination. Summer is generally a busy time, while the island pace slows down considerably during the winter months. Spring and fall are pleasant times of the year, with fewer tourists and mild weather.

Come for a day, a week or a lifetime!
