Your Sunny Peaceful Catskill Mountain Hideaway is a sweet 350-square-foot studio apartment with a private entrance off a stone walkway, queen size bed, sitting area, compact kitchen with cooktop (no oven), and bathroom with shower. The kitchen has everything you'll need, including a coffeemaker (coffee and fixings are provided). The water from our well is safe for drinking and tastes great. Wake up to birds singing and beautiful light from south-facing windows. The deck gets both shade and sun, with comfortable seating and a forest view that feels serene and remote. It's the perfect quiet retreat for a couple on a romantic weekend or a single person needing time for introspection, creativity, or to get a bit of quiet work done.
We provide a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network on a Netgear AC1900 router, with little to no interference from neighbors. The television offers Chromecast, so you can use your smartphone, tablet, or laptop to view your favorite entertainment on the TV screen.
Your entrance and small yard are private. The property is set back off the road, and the grounds are secluded and peaceful. Large shag-bark hickory trees line the driveway and perennial flowers bloom here and there. In June, the scent of wild roses fills the air!
Our home is adjacent to our rentals, and you're welcome to lounge in our pergola or even to enjoy an evening fire in our outdoor fire pit if you talk with us first.
Our family is Wendy Drolma, a maskmaker; Brent Robison, a writer/photographer; our pre-teen daughter Akanksha; and our pets, Casper the dog and Serena the cat. We live right next door so we're usually there if you need us, but we're happy to leave you alone as much as you like! Our friendly dog and cat roam freely during the day, but the dog is restricted from your area by fences. If you have an allergy, please note that neither animal has ever been in your room.
We're in an ideal location, 8 miles from the center of Woodstock, 6 from Phoenicia, and just 1.5 from Boiceville, where there's a grocery store, pharmacy, and liquor store.
Woodstock and Phoenicia are both delightfully cultured but funky small towns, each with its own distinct flavor and history, resulting from the mix of New York City energy with the spirit and beauty of the fields and mountains. In addition to being in the Catskill Forest Preserve, we're close to several spiritual retreat centers, such as the Zen Mountain Monastery, KTD Tibetan Monastery, Matagiri, and Menla Mountain Retreat. Several yoga studios are within an easy drive. High quality art, music, and literary events abound, and we're surrounded by the recreational opportunities of the Catskills: fishing, hunting, biking, skiing, swimming, hiking. If you're a hiker, we'll tell you how to walk to our secret trail through Forest Preserve land, up the flank of Mount Tobias to a beautiful viewpoint.
Biking is a good way to make short jaunts around the area, but to really take advantage of all that's here, you'll need a car. Parking is no problem on our private driveway.
From Port Authority in NYC, Pine Hill Trailways stops near the Zen Mt. Monastery in Mount Tremper, just 1.5 miles away from us. If needed, we can pick you up there.
If you need more space than the Peaceful Catskill Mountain Hideaway provides, please look up our other offering, the Artful and Serene Woodstock Getaway (aka the Maskmaker's Studio). It's in the same building and sleeps up to four.
Smoking is not allowed on the premises.
Only two quests.
We look forward to meeting you, and ask that you treat this cozy, quiet retreat with care.
We are Wendy Drolma, a maskmaker, and Brent Robison, a writer/photographer. We've lived in the beautiful Woodstock NY area for 20 years after moving up from NYC. Wendy has a charming studio/showroom in the center of the Woodstock village, which you are welcome to visit. Brent published a literary journal featuring Hudson Valley writers and knows the local literary scene. We love the natural beauty and artistic energy of this region and are happy to give you a comfortable home base from which to explore. Whether we're traveling or hosting, our style is laid-back, friendly, and respectful.
Brent and Wendy purchased this apartment in 1999
This lovely, well-appointed room is the sunny side of a cottage on a property owned by Wendy + Brent, who were welcoming. Each morning, we enjoyed breakfast on the private sunny porch with views of the woods. On chilly evenings, we were warm with a heater and cosy quilt at night and had everything we needed to cook light meals in the kitchen. We were pleased that the bed was very comfortable (especially since we were hiking every day). Only minor downsides: we could hear the neighbors on the other side of the wall separating the two halves of the cottage and there are no black-out curtains in the room, so the morning light is very bright -- bring eye masks if you want to sleep in! We'll definitely go back as it was pretty, comfortable, and charming.
We had an amazing and relaxing time staying at the peaceful Catskill Mountain hideaway. Wendy and Brent greeted us upon arrival. We felt welcomed right away, and that continued as we entered our beautifully designed apartment.
The apartment was equipped with everything we might need. We truly felt nature all around us, and felt at peace in this lovely space.
It was really nice to have the windows open and an amazing breeze flowing in day and night...no AC needed in July!
This is a great place to unwind and very close to many great restaurants and shops.
Thanks to Wendy and Brent for a wonderful stay.
Rebecca and Brian... we hope to be back someday soon.
My boyfriend and I had one of the most relaxing, peaceful & enjoyable stays at this little gem. The cottage is clean and so beautifully decorated! I would highly recommend to any couples looking for a perfect little getaway within driving distance to Woodstock, Saugerties and Kingston. Thank you Wendy & Brent for everything!!
Through the village of Woodstock:
From NY State Thruway (87), take Rt. 28 West toward Pine Hill. At approximately 7 miles, turn right onto Rt. 375. Go 3 miles until Rt. 375 ends in a T, then turn left onto Rt. 212 (aka Mill Hill Rd./Tinker St.). Continue through town on Rt. 212 until it makes a sharp curve to the right at a bridge, just after the Bearsville Theater complex. Don't follow the curve but go straight, onto Wittenberg Rd. Stay on Wittenberg approximately 6 miles. We are on the left, number 1277, marked on the mailbox (the buildings are not visible from the road). Take the driveway slowly. The first building is our home, and the second is your destination. Follow the stone path to the rear of the building.
For a more direct route:
