Enjoy a relaxing break from the city in this colorful, newly-renovated studio with loft bedroom in the Catskill Mountains of New York. It's a comfortable mix of rustic and elegant, located midway between lovely towns, Woodstock and Phoenicia. The Artful Getaway is a 750-square-foot apartment with a sleeping loft overlooking a living room and a galley kitchen. It's an excellent space for two, with a queen size bed. Also, with a queen-size sofa bed, a family of up to four can be comfortable (please note there is an additional fee for over two people).
The kitchen has everything you'll need, including a toaster and a coffeemaker (coffee and fixings are provided). The water from our well is safe for drinking and tastes great. The full bath includes a tub. You can also enjoy your own front porch with comfortable chairs and table, perfect for morning coffee.
Our property is set back off the road, and the grounds are secluded and peaceful. Large shag-bark hickory trees line the driveway and perennial flowers bloom here and there.
During the summer, it is a pleasure to open the windows and enjoy the cool night air and magical sounds of the forest - it's simply incredible and much better than air conditioning (but we do provide an air conditioner for those times when it's needed).
In wintertime, the driveway and path to your door are both regularly cleared of accumulated snow. There's a wall-mounted heater that will keep you warm and cozy inside and, if needed, extra blankets are provided. To balance that warm, cozy feeling of being "snowed-in" you can venture out to nearby Belleyre, Hunter or Windham Mountains to take advantage of the outdoors by enjoying skiing or snowboarding.
We provide a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network on a Netgear AC1900 router, with little to no interference from neighbors. The television offers Chromecast, so you can use your smartphone, tablet, or laptop to view your favorite entertainment on the TV screen.
Please note this apartment is one of two that are in the same building. While the apartments are completely separate, they do share a wall. For your privacy, quiet enjoyment is a must.
Sorry, this rental is not suitable for children under 12. Also, we do not accept pets.
Our home is adjacent to our rentals, and we always try to greet you when you arrive. We live right next door so we're usually there if you need us, but we're happy to leave you to yourself and the surroundings as much as you like!
Our family is Wendy Drolma, a maskmaker; Brent Robison, a writer/photographer and our teenage daughter Akanksha. Our pets, Casper the dog and Serena the cat (she's employed as a mouser and does a fine job), are both friendly and love a pat on the head. They roam freely during the day. If you have an allergy, please note that neither animal has ever been in your room.
Woodstock and Phoenicia are both delightfully cultured but funky small towns, each with its own distinct flavor and history, resulting from the mix of New York City energy with the spirit and beauty of the fields and mountains. In addition to being in the Catskill Forest Preserve, we're close to several spiritual retreat centers, such as the Zen Mountain Monastery, KTD Tibetan Monastery, Matagiri, and Menla Mountain Retreat. Several yoga studios are within an easy drive. High quality art, music, and literary events abound, and we're surrounded by the recreational opportunities of the Catskills: fishing, hunting, biking, skiing, swimming, hiking. If you're a hiker, we'll tell you how to walk to our secret trail through NY Forest Preserve land, up the flank of Mount Tobias to a beautiful lookout.
Biking is a good way to make short jaunts around the area, but to really take advantage of all that's here, you'll need a car. Parking is no problem on our private driveway.
From Port Authority in NYC, Pine Hill Trailways stops near the Zen Mt. Monastery in Mount Tremper, just 1.5 miles away from us. If needed, we can pick you up there.
If you want less space or a lower price than the Maskmaker's Studio provides, please look up our other offering, Peaceful Catskill Mountain Hideaway. It's in the same building but sleeps only two.
Smoking is not allowed on the premises.
We look forward to meeting you, and ask that you treat this cozy, quiet retreat with care.
