Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday cottage in The Glade - 23 Cardinals

Lovely beach cottage; 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, sleeps 6

This beautiful beach cottage was built in the middle 1960s. It is quintessentially midcentury modern, with cathedral ceilings, open floor plan and lots of light. The kitchen is brand new and boasts stainless steel appliances. There are three bedrooms: master bed with en suite bathroom (tub), double bedroom and a twin bedroom ( shower). There is a large screened porch with sitting and dining areas. There is also an outside deck in an enclosed bamboo garden. The house is 5 minutes by bike from Cape Henlopen State Park with all that the park has to offer: hiking, biking, nature trails, birdwatching, nature programs and miles of beach along the Delaware Bay and Atlantic Ocean. The North Shores community provides swimming pool, tennis, and a kayak launch. The ocean beach is a 5 minute walk away over a private community dune crossing.

We had a wonderful, relaxing vacation. We loved this place.

  • 4 of 5

My wife likes to relax on the beach in the sand, but I can only take so much sun. We were looking for a place where there would be something for both of us, and we found it. Umbrella and beach chairs were taken care of by the North Shores crew, so there was not too much for my wife to carry on her short walk to the private beach. Each day I was able to either ride my bike on the Lewes/Henlopen bike trails or kayak in the canal. At the end of the day we would come back to the private lot, outdoor shower and airconditioning. Some nights we went into Rehobeth for dinner, others just relaxing in the scandinavian decor, watching Netflix or maybe a soak in the hottub. The owners were very helpful, even mailing me some stuff that we left behind after the week was over.

Sandinavia is a serene, midcentury home away from home! The period furnishings transport you back in time. The attention to detail make the experience complete; nothing is overlooked, from the newly renovated kitchen and bathrooms, to the wonderful outdoor spaces. Close to everything, we left our car in the driveway and biked everywhere!! A worry free escape, from the private beach with its umbrella and chairs, to the incredible close proximity to Cape Henlopen State Park. We plan to return year after year, the best vacation ever!!

Unique: not to be missed!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time! The property is beautifully appointed and decorated, with utmost taste, sobriety and comfort. It offers large living and entertaining space, and all conceivable amenities -- including new, well-functioning appliances and entertainment/media systems (Smart-TV, Sonos/Bose sound-system, DVD player, and Wi-Fi) -- combined with charm and refined simplicity: we just loved the designer kitchenware! The house is surrounded by a large yard, with a well-kept lawn and mature greenery: pine trees, large herbs/plants (ranging from hydrangeas to herbs such as basil and rosemary: we are foodies and used them aplenty!), and a tall bamboo garden throughout the perimeter, offering abundant shade and total privacy: heaven on earth! The quietness of the surrounding area is conducive to generous, uninterrupted sleep: at night, the only noise is the occasional pine nuts falling on the roof; or the sound of the rain -- both very pleasant! We cooked our meals practically every evening (also using the outdoor grill provided) and we then lounged either in the screened veranda (a wet bar where to chill wine and other drinks is offered); or on the patio, soothing in the oversized hot tub. The beautiful beach, at the hedge of the Cape Henlopen State Park, is a few minutes walk from the property (an umbrella with two chairs are also offered): we saw dolphins every day! One of the many perks is the outdoor shower (large enough for two, with double fawcett!): very practical and convenient when returning from the beach or the pool (yes: the rental also comes with access to the communal pool), or just to cool off/freshen up while sunbathing/napping in the large yard (two deckchairs are available). The property is one block from the Lewes-Rehoboth Beach Canal, and just steps away from the Gordon’s Pond Trail: we absolutely recommend that you either walk there or, better, rent a bike to be able to explore the pristine natural habitat and its flora/fauna. And, in case one wants to experience downtown Rehoboth Beach (or Lewes), with their fine restaurants, bars, coffee shops, famed boardwalk and exciting shopping (including the Tanger outlets), all of the above is a very short ride away (by car or even by bike: we biked to Lewes, and back to Rehoboth Beach, one afternoon). Last but not least, the owners (Judith and Robert) are simply the most gracious landlords and hosts: thank you for an unforgettable vacation, and all the precious, lasting memories: coming back soon!

A real Sandinavian Gem

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in this wonderful house close to the beach and Cape Henlopen State Park. Everything was perfect:the well equipped kitchen, the scandinavian classical furniture, the romantic garden with the outdoor shower and hot tub, the bikes and above all the very kind and helpful landlady and landlord. From Germany it is a long journey but we are certain: we will come back!!

Midcentury Perfection

  • 5 of 5

Sandinavia is a midcentury modern gem, a jewel that I am so pleased to have discovered.

Situated on a perfect lot surrounded by bamboo, the serenity and tranquility of this rental makes me think of a bamboo paradise. Furnished with period pieces, a newly renovated kitchen and bathrooms and stocked with anything a renter might need from excellent kitchenware to beautiful books, this first class rental is the perfect place for a quiet beach vacation. Close to biking trails, the beach (stunning and private), fabulous restaurants in the hub of Rehoboth, Sandinavia is the perfect setting for privacy, relaxation and entertaining. We had 10 people for cocktails on the spacious screened porch; everyone had a comfortable seat and fell in love with the property. Looking forward to booking again.
