Walk over to Roy's waterfront restaurant and enjoy the sunset while having a nice dinner or check out the live music at Crabby Dads for a more lively atmosphere, and don't forget waterfront Hungry Howies for some Awesome pizza! If you want a peaceful retreat that is super convenient to the some of the best fishing and scalloping in the state, then you have found it at Heron's Nest. Included in the rental are some specifics of what to do while on vacation including GPS #'s for fishing inshore/offshore, private beach picnic spots, the best kayaking locations, where to find sand dollars, and of course the best scallop locations.

Sea Hag Marina is less than a mile away for all your fishing and scalloping needs including air fills for divers and boat rentals if you find yourself without a boat.

Maddies Market is also a mile away for grocery items, and Ace Hardware 1.5 miles away for any last minute needs. Drop a kayak in right at the ramp and enjoy a peaceful paddle on the river, or River Haven will shuttle you up to Steinhatchee falls and kayak down river for a couple of hours of connecting with Old Florida. Head over to Dallus creek or Rocky creek and launch a skinny water boat in search of redfish, trout and flounder. Offshore fishing is phenomenal year round with grouper, snapper, cobia, amberjack, pink mouth, sea bass, spanish mackeral, and Kingfish being the bulk of your catch.

Feel like staying in? We have two new smart tvs with free Wifi and a Bluetooth sound system. For even quieter times, enjoy a glass of wine and a recent best selling novel on the chaise lounge.

About Abby and Steve Hale

Steve and Abby have been married for 12 years and have 2 daughters Savannah and Callie ages 9 and 7. We have always been very passionate boaters and fell in love with the Steinhatchee area 15 years ago. Our dream is to do a circumnavigation in our sailboat with our two girls.

Abby and Steve Hale purchased this house in 2015

Why Abby and Steve Hale chose Florida North Central Gulf Coast

Steinhatchee has always been our favorite getaway, we've been fishing, scalloping, and diving here for 15 years and it is only 1 hour from our house in Lake City. The fishing has always been outstanding. The opportunity came up to buy this property and we jumped on it. We love the cracker style architecture and the location being so close to the ramp, restaurants, and Sea Hag Marina.

What makes this house unique

Steinhatchee is the scalloping capital of the world, awesome flats fishing and offshore. Our home is very close to everything, but still very quiet in its location.

Steinhatchee is an amazing river community with incredible fishing opportunities and a laid back lifestyle. Awesome flats fishing and scalloping opportunities and a kayakers paradise. We've got some great restaurants like Roy's, Fiddlers, Who Dat, and the best Hungry Howies pizza around, you can even pull your boat up to it. A short 20 minute drive brings you to another great little community called Keaton Beach with a small sandy beach area with playground. One of our favorite areas is Hagan's cove, just between Steinhatchee and Keaton.

Notes:
Abby and I want our guests to experience Steinhatchee like we do. We enjoy sharing our great experiences of the area, where to go fishing, where to go scalloping and the best diving locations. We have been all over Florida and have not found a place as satisfying as Steinhatchee. The slow pace and laid back lifestyle is what we love about the area and hope our guests will too. Take a kayak down the river and melt all of your worries away. What Steinhatchee isn't is a busy city with fast food on every corner. If you want a true getaway and escape from hectic life then please be our guests at Heron's nest. Catch some Trout, find some scallops, and build some lifetime memories. Let us help. Steve and Abby

Oustanding place to stay in Steinhatchee!

  • 5 of 5

We spent four days/three nights the opening weekend of scallop season. We brought our boat. There is plenty of room to park and if you don't have a high tower, you can back the boat and your vehicle under cover in the carport . There is a hose there so cleanup after the day was in the shade and we had plenty of room to spread out rinsed off gear. The place is very clean, tastefully decorated and very well provisioned. It was about as comfortable as you would ever expect or want. It is close to the boat ramp and if no parking is available there, the walk is only a few blocks. The owners provide a lot of helpful information at the place and are very helpful and easy to communicate with. I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone looking to spend time in Steinhatchee. We will stay there again in the future. Thanks!

Great weekend location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed Thursday through Sunday. The house was perfectly cleaned and stocked with everything needed for a great weekend. The snack basket was a nice touch. The sheets and towels are very high quality and the home location is quiet but easy to get to. We cooked 2 of the 3 nights and didn't have to bring anything along.

Perfect spot for relaxing getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Herons Nest was perfect!!! Lovely place with everything we needed. The owners provided detailed info about the area, had a welcoming basket of snacks, and even provided "if you forgot" items in the bathroom (ie toothbrush & razor). It truly felt like we were staying at a friend's home.

Fun getaway for our family!

Almost perfect

  • 4 of 5

Overall this property was very nice. Very clean and as advertised. The spacious kitchen was perfect for a family meal and get together.

The owners contacted us four days before arrival and told us that the air conditioning might not be working correctly which made us very nervous. We did not touch the thermostat and all went well.

As it turns out the laundry washing machine and dryer did not work. This made for some very wet towels on day two of our stay.

The directions on how to get to the property were a little sketchy and it took a little extra time to find at night.

We loved the driveway and parking facility for our boat. It was very convenient to wash down the boat and well lit.

Like a Good Friend

  • 5 of 5

Your place was Awesome! It felt like a luxury home but with a very comfortable, inviting feel. The attention to detail was very welcome. We thought that not being on the water would be a downfall, however, keeping our boat at Sea Hag Marina was very convenient. Your place was like visiting a long time friend! Thanks!
