Lovely place

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful weekend at the lodge, we only wish we could have stayed longer. The lodge was finished to a really high standard, and lovely and clean. It had lovely views over the countryside and was just a great break away from London. we have re-booked for December! Big thanks to Walter and Alison

Owner's Response: Many thanks for your kind comments and we were pleased you had great day in Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay. Surprising what beauty is hidden away in Durham and North Yorkshire. You and your family are welcome back any time. Cheers Alison and Walter

Fantastic Lodge!

  • 5 of 5

We booked the lodge for a long weekend, whilst visiting family and friends in Darlington. The lodge is very easy to get to and was perfectly placed for all the visiting we needed to do.

Unfortunately, the pictures of the lodge really don't do it justice - it's sooo much bigger and nicer in real life. And a whole lot quieter than we expected too!

I loved the fully equipped kitchen with all the storage space, and it was easy to find everything I needed to prepare all our meals.

My husband loved the very large and comfortable sofa, the great wifi - and full Sky package too, which was definitely more than he'd expected!

And our Goldendoodle absolutely loved having free roam of the lodge and vast gardens, as well as the low level windows where she could watch the wildlife go by. Although she wasn't entirely sure about the peacock who'd 'knock' on the door for attention!

We all absolutely loved our stay and will definitely be returning again soon - we still can't believe we've found such a gem so close to Darlington.

On a side note, I'd really like to see a welcome/information pack - explaining the history of the lodge and farm, a couple of recommendations for places to visit, as well as info about the lodge including passwords and guidance for checking out too.

I know that if we'd asked, Mitch and Alison would have happily given us all of the above information but I'm odd in that I love reading welcome packs with a cup of tea upon arrival.

Thank you for allowing us to stay!

Owner's Response: Dear Rebecca and of course Emily (the dog) Really sorry that we do not have an information pack and will put our heads together to see what we can come up with. This will help all of our guests even although most of them know more about the area than we do and tell us of the many great places they have visited whilst staying in the lodge ( we even had a German family who visited Old Trafford to see the Man U museum ). Sorry about the peahen visiting you but she wanders all mover usually accompanied by Gertty the guinea fowl who has turned up in the last few weeks. Hope to see you soon Cheers Alison and Walter

Excellent accommodation,thoroughly recommended.

We were immediately impressed with the standard of fittings and furnishings. The kitchen was very modern with all the essential equipment required for a fabulous stay. The beds were comfy and ample wardrobe space. Didn't try the sunken bath but the ensuite shower was great.

The grounds were lovely with swings and trampoline. We even saw deer one morning while having our breakfast.

Walter was very friendly and the 2 pints of milk was most welcome on arrival.

Only down side was the paddock wasn't enclosed so couldn't let dog off the lead due to busy road nearby. She is easily distracted by the wildlife so it was a shame. However this did not effect our stay , we found an old railway line nearby that was a lovely walk.

Looking forward to our next visit already.

Owner's Response: We are pleased they had a good time visiting their relatives in Sedgfield and the lodge was fine. Just a pity as if they had said the side paddock is fenced in and easily accessed from the lodge and it is where we exercised our own dogs off their leads. Hope to see them again Alison and Walter

Just Perfect!

Visiting Darlington to see our daughter and to attend a wedding we were so pleased to have found this gorgeous lodge to stay in. It's on a smallholding (no animals now) in Middleton St George, and has it's own private space. Best of all, we were permitted to take our two elderly dogs, and they loved it! They chilled and enjoyed being able to wander around freely as the lodge is well fenced and gated.

The lodge has a delightful elevated outlook and we spent pleasant times relaxing in the sumptuous leather suite just soaking in the lush greenery around us, and looking through the huge windows to watch for pheasants, ducks, geese, deer, and a determined peahen wander in and out of sight (not one rabbit though!)

The kind and friendly owners, Walter and Alison, are close by and available if needed (thanks for fixing the Sky box, Walter!)

The lodge is luxuriously appointed and extremely well equipped, especially the kitchen where you could prepare a gourmet feast should you wish to.

Nearby is a huge Morrison's store with fuel station, behind which is a trading estate. From the estate you can go to see an amazing sculpture of a train, made entirely of bricks. It's just stunning to see.

Around the sculpture are good places to walk the dogs, so we enjoyed more than one outing there, and hope to explore further on our next trip to Darlington.

There are some lovely eateries within reach. Our particular favourites were the Devonport Hotel at Middleton One Row, the local Old Farm House Inn, and, a little further afield, the really lovely Whinstone Bistro at Great Ayton...all of which are dog friendly.

All in all we had one of the best weeks away ever, and hope very much to be able to enjoy the comfort of Midway Farm Lodge again.

This property is lovely, with all you could imagine to make your stay comfortable, a complete home from home with lovely hosts who make you feel very welcome indeed, every home comfort provided. Pity HomeAway.com are very bad to deal with otherwise a great experience and would highly recommend. Many thanks Alison & Walter .

Owner's Response: We are still at a loss about why the Frankland family was over charged for their booking by HomAawy but thank them very much for their comments and hope that we sorted it out to their satisfaction and hope to welcome them back later on in the year.
