Why Julia Truax chose Boothbay Harbor Area

The cabin was built by our grandparents in 1951 to serve as a summer home for the family who lived in Middlebury, Vermont. It was used as a summer home for the following three decades. The cabin has remained in the family, but life paths do not allow it to be used as a summer home any longer. The cabin has all the charm it once did, and not much has changed!

What makes this cabin unique

The front porch is partially screened in so guests can sit in the peace and quiet and listen to the sounds of the ocean, the buoy at the mouth of the harbor, and the wildlife. This is the perfect place if you are looking for peace and quiet! Very limited views of the neighboring houses. There is no television, and cell service is limited so it is the perfect retreat for those who like to "get away from it all!". The cabin is heated by a wood stove, and there is a wood shed at the back of the cabin and axes available to chop wood.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We stayed at this amazing cabin for 7 nights. We loved the privacy, quite, view, charm, cleanliness and ambiance of the cabin. Julia was quick to respond to all of our inquiries prior to our arrival, and provided us with detailed instructions on how to get to the cabin, operating the house, general information, and local and regional attractions. We were very surprised to find it more spacious than we imagined by looking at the photos online. And although rustic we would also describe it as cozy and charming. We loved riding our mountain bikes around Salt Pond and Long Cove Point Road. We enjoyed the sunset views down Pemaquid Loop Road and the cinnamon buns at the Cupboard Cafe in New Harbor. We appreciated and used the fully equipped kitchen. It was a great get a way for us. We are relaxed and refreshed ready to face our hectic schedules in NJ and NYC.

Quiet and Peaceful Escape

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful cabin tucked in the woods but a short walk to fresh lobster, a true escape free of noise and distraction! Worked out great for our family of 4, hope to return in the future.

Rustic, secluded yet convenient

  • 4 of 5

Not five stars only because there is no cell phone or internet service which we knew about ahead of time. Generously large LR and dining areas. I appreciated the well stocked little kitchen since I had forgotten to bring salt and pepper. Immaculate fridge and stove with plenty of dishes etc since cottage can sleep 8. Get ready for some solitude but a small but amazingly well stocked supermarket is only minutes away as is Shaw's seafood and Hardy boat cruises. Also enjoyed Pemaquid Point which is only a few miles away. My husband enjoyed reading a book from the large selection. We also thought there was a nice selection of board games. Very quiet and the kind of rustic cabin that has been loved by several generations. Hard to find nowadays.

What a find! We love this place ♡♡♡

Classic Maine cottage! We spent most of our time on the porch overlooking the water. This place has everything you need and a little bit more. The living area is spacious. I love the long table looking out the window. My husband got to hear his first fisher cat. We met the neighbor Ms. Whittaker whose misson is to save the herring gulls. My Aunts have a house on Old Long Cove Rd, so we'll be back!

Charming is the perfect description!

  • 5 of 5

Pictures do not do this place justice. It's quaint, cozy and completely charming. Even though we didn't use it, the kitchen was fully stocked and would provide comfortable seating for 10. It's still a bit chilly at night this time of year and the wood burning stove and ceramic heater that was provided, took the nip out of the air nicely. The owner responded almost immediately every time I contacted her and was extremely accommodating. Hitchcock Cottage provided the perfect spot for us, before heading to Monhegan for the week.

Hitchcock Cottage was absolutely perfect - perfect way to begin retirement. It was an ideal location, well kept and maintained and VERY well equipped. It had everything one could possibly need. Shaws' market just 5 minutes away is the perfect place for lobster. I would certainly recommend this cottage to anyone who want to get away from the hubbub of the world! Thank you to the Hitchcock family!
