Overview

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Aumeville-Lestre - La Ferme du Chateau

Peaceful, well equiped:2 Bedrooms, 2 gardens, playground, sleeps 6 near the sea

Our comfortably furnished cottage is situated in a small village, at the end of a driveway planted with lime trees, in a very peaceful and delightful setting with a view on the château.

Former gate house of the Château it offers all the modern facilities as well as a play area for children, 2 gardens and access to the fields.

Only a stone's throw from the sea it is the ideal place to spend great holidays as you can combine resting and resourcing with enjoying a wide range of activities.

Being in the 'Parc Régional des marais', a conservation area, the countryside around is home to a rich and varied wildlife.

Outdoor: Ia barbecue is available as well as garden furnitures and a ping-pong table, a tractor for children...

At the end of the driveway, once you've passed the gate, there is a nature trail leading through the marshes towards the sea. You can hence access the horse riding school on foot.

If you are an early riser, you can walk down the road to admire the sun rising from the sea...

Special interests: My husband and myself know this region intimately and we love it so we will be pleased to share our good addresses and hints with you.

William works as a warden for protecting the environment and has a large knowledge of the different preserved sites, the local fauna and flora. It is possible to organise guided tours with him, depending on availability.

I can show you precious places to browse for antiques, brocante and good bargains.

I can also tell you where to find 'secret' beaches!

We are very involved in sailing and kayaking and will be happy to introduce you to these activities.

We can lend you 2 sea kayaks.

Noisette, our poney and her fawl Colombo are a bit shy but you will be welcome to have a ride down to the sea with her if they are not "on holiday".

Do not hesitate to let us know what you are looking for and we will make our most to accompagny you.

Extra Services on Request: To enjoy your holiday even more, you have the possibility to book services such as:

Baby Sitting, Cleaning, Indian Head massage and Yoga with a qualified practicioner

About Emanuèle Argentin

We bought this property which had been abandonned for 20 years and have been restauring it since then.

To start with, we lived in one of the rudimentary pigsty then in this Gate house and now we live on the other side of the main garden.

We were working as a wardens for Conservatoire du Littoral (Preservation organisation equivalent to National Trust) and wanted to invest ourselves in a personnal project.

I am now a property manager and share my experience with other owners.

Emanuèle Argentin purchased this cottage in 1998

Why Emanuèle Argentin chose Cherbourg area

We were looking for a special place around Barfleur where quality of life is healthy and authentic.

I mostly grew up nearby and we had decided to bring up our children there and offer them a dream place.

We fell in love with this very special farm and decided to share it with family, friends and guests from all over the world.

A second cottage for 8 persons will be ready to rent by next summer 2013!

Each cottage has its privacy and complete independance.

What makes this cottage unique

The blue château gate with its high granite pillars at the end of the lane made me 'jump' into this adventure.

I also fell in love with the oriental style wash-house at the end of the field.

The unsual style of the buildings (1892) inspired us but also hte closness of the sea, the quietness, le land around and the little number of neighbours...

Guestbook comments from the manager

We revisited many of the sites we visited last year. We particularly enjoyed some fabuleous meals at the Café de France in Barfleur and buying wine from Gosselin's in St Vaast. The cottage was perfect for our stay with our Dog. He loved the walks from the cottage down to the beach. The woodburner was a good sens and kept us warm and cosy.

With love from S and S. Norfolk

Un lieu original pour se détendre et se ressourcer

  • 5 of 5

Owner's Response: We are delighted to hear that our guests enjoyed themselves and appreciated the house and its grounds. They can spend very quiet holidays away from it all but it can also be a paradise for children combining adventure and safety. We are happy to share such a special place with them. Being a bilingual family we love discovering other culture and over the years we have built some strong links with some our "holiday rentals" guests to the point of exchanging children for linguistic trips! N'hésitez pas à nous contacter.

Authenticité et charme

  • 5 of 5

Maison indépendante avec son joli jardin privé.

Meublée avec goût et charme. Possibilité de faire du feux de bois et de manger dans le jardin.

Au RC : Living et cuisine ouverte (très bien fournie en vaisselle et ustensiles).

Au 1er étage : une chambre avec lit deux places + salle de bain (baignoire et douche)+ WC indépendant;

Fabulous feel of historic ambiente + modern living

  • 5 of 5

Great place to stay, authentic, full of atmosphere; most sympathetic, relaxed renters living nearby, who were always helpful if addressed. Lot of space around the house with a variety of furnished patios, and a cosy woodstove for chilly evenings, adding to otherwise fully sufficient heating.

Nice walks to nearby sea and short drive to traditional small fishingports in the neighbourhood.

lovely house and wonderful hosts - great holdiday!

  • 5 of 5

the description was accurate, any questions where answered by the wonderful host and they where really helpful and gave a lot of ideas for trips and tours;

we recommend this property to anybody;

the sea is easy to reach within 15 min by car, the d-day places but also the

lovely nature are worth a trip; to have dinner in a restaurant you have to be there not later than about 9pm - they are closing early

Well-maintained gite in gorgeous setting.

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful retreat in a magical setting. I enjoyed long walks by the sea, collecting samphire & driftwood; visits to nearby fishing villages St Vaast & Barfleur, both beautiful in their ways; the spectacular coastline & marshes... with gastronomic treats to be had, of course, at every turn! I enjoyed every moment & would thoroughly recommend staying at the Gate House in Aumeville Lestre - we will definitely be back!!

LA FERME DU CHATEAU is situated in the small village of Aumeville-Lestre which is part of the Regional Park, a preserved and natural environment, at 800 meters from the sea.

Surrounded by fields (organic) and marshes it is home to a rich wildlife and offers a good opportunity to spent quality time in this part of Normandy, close to the sea.

A nature trail through the marshes and to the beach starts at the gate of the property.

Close the harbour of SAINT-VAAST-LA-HOUGUE with its marina, shops, cafés, restaurants and the 'Island de Tatihou' which is accesssible on foot at low tide it is also close to Barfleur (14 km), famous village listed as the third villages pefered by French people.

Cotentin's peninsula offers 350 km of coastline: intimate coves, rock pools, high cliffs, dunes, long sandy beaches so that you will always find a sheltered spot for swimming, sun bathing, fishing, walking, exploring, bird watching...

It is close to historical sites: the 'Landing Beaches' (10 miles from Utah Beach), 'Bayeux Tapestry', (45 minutes drive), 'Mont Saint Michel' (2 hours).

Other Activities: Sand yachting, Kayaking in Quinéville and Saint Vaast la Hougue.

Golf: In Quinéville/ Fontenay, only 6km from home, there is a golf course alongside the sea front.

Its priviledged situation makes it a must.
