Overview

About the property

3 Bedrooms, sleeps 5, large private garden, open fireplace, central heating

The original cottage dates back some 300 years, and was extended in the 1980s adding a large kitchen/diner, and utility room downstairs and bathroom and bedroom upstairs. Anneth Lowen is tucked down a quiet country lane in Newhall Green, a small rural hamlet near the magnificent North Cornwall coastline.

It provides a terrific holiday environment being in the heart of the country with stunning views but within 5 minutes drive of the resorts of Port Isaac and Trebarwith Strand. The cottage has been tastefully renovated retaining its original charm with open fireplace and slate floor from the nearby quarry at Delabole. In addition to the open fire we have electric central heating to keep you warm on those cold, winter evenings.

In the large, lawned garden you'll find a patio, BBQ and picnic table where you relax to the sound of the River Allen which runs at the far end of the garden. Alternatively, make use of the well-equipped kitchen or dine out at one of the many nearby pubs and restaurants.

About Ian & Alison Fischer

Alison is a head teacher and Ian, an IT consultant. We have been coming to this part of Cornwall since we met over 25 years ago and love to be able to escape to this peaceful cottage and garden yet be ideally situated for exploring the many attractions Cornwall has to offer.

Why Ian & Alison Fischer chose North Cornwall

The original cottage is 300 years old and was extended in the 1980s to now accommodate five people comfortably. We love being able to sit in the south west facing courtyard to watch the sun set whilst having dinner, a cup of tea or something a little stronger.

The field next door is owned by a farm up the road. The farmer's family mainly keep sheep or cows in the field.

We are also close to the river and to walks in the nearby woods over the bridge, or across to Castle Goff and Lanteglos at the Trewalder end of Newhall Green.

What makes this cottage unique

Beautiful views across the fields and Cornish countryside. During the popular summer months this is a great place to escape the bustling, nearby resorts of Port Isaac, Polzeath, Daymer Bay and Tintagel.

Forgotten Booking

  • 2 of 5

We arrived at the cottage on a cold wet afternoon to find the property was not ready for us. There was washing drying on airers in the kitchen, washing in the machine, the fridge was turned off and beds not made up etc. We managed to contact the owner who then realised because of our call that he had forgotten about our booking. We were obviously concerned as we had made the booking several weeks earlier and were expecting a warm welcome. The owner called us back to say he was having a problem contacting the Housekeeper. We decided to go out for a meal in order to give him time to sort the problem. We were glad that we had not arrived late in the evening or had any children with us. Financial recompense was mentioned during the call but has not been forthcoming.

We returned at 5.40 p.m. which was well after the original agreed arrival time. The Housekeeper was just finishing getting the property ready, she was helpful and explained that she was unaware that we were arriving at all that day and that she was not expecting any guests until the following weekend.

We found the cottage well equipped and cosy. There is restricted headroom in the bath/shower which is difficult if you are over 6ft tall.

Overall we enjoyed our stay which was booked for a birthday weekend treat. We would however of hoped for better customer service and this should always be a priority. We would of appreciated even a small gesture like a phone call or email after our stay as even though we felt disappointed we remained polite throughout. We therefore would not be able to recommend this property.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback however i'm not sure i understand why you rated us so low. We ask our guea5ts to arrive after 4.30pm to ensure the property is ready. When you arrived earlier than this, it was not ready. You came back later to find everything in order. The place clean and the beds made. Sorry that you still feel that there was something amiss despite this. Ian & Alison

Fantastic Propert

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic beautiful property, the owners were incredibly helpful as our booking was quite late and even left some cake and had a fire ready to go on our arrival.

Lovely walks around the area and it is easy to get to local villages and beaches.

Would love to stay again in the future at some point

A very cute cosy cottage - ideal for exploring.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the cottage for nights at the end of October. The cottage was spotless. well presented, well equipped and very comfortable. It's ideal for exploring the coastal villages, coastal walks, golf courses and beaches by day and relaxing in front of the cosy fire with a glass of wine in the evening!

The owner Ian could not have been more helpful and we will definitely return in the very near future.

2 tips which might help you better enjoy your stay?

1) Buy a local map asap - our Sat Nav. insisted on taking us everywhere via the narrowest possible lanes ( and I do mean narrow!) Once we had a map driving became a lot easier!

2) The cottage has no Wifi and there seemed to be hardly any 3G signal anywhere we went so if you need internet access - plan it in advance?

Amazingly beautiful and everything you need

  • 5 of 5

From first arriving we were blown away with the beauty of this wonderful cottage. It's rustic look is clean cut against the pretty cornish countryside and on entering we were amazed with the contemporary modern furniture and fittings. Everything you need is there, washer dryer, hair dryer, heating if it gets cold, fresh bedding and towels and everything to cook a small to large meal. It was extremely clean and neat inside. It is a short drive to the nearest little village shop so maybe bring supplies for your first evening there, but the nearest supermarket is not far. The gorgeous garden to the front added to the experience and the very large garden separated from the property gives ample room for the little ones. Overall I cannot recommend this wonderful cottage enough and can only imagine how magical it is in winter.

Delightful cottage in rural setting.

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely week in this well-appointed cottage. The ultimate test for any self catering accommodation is to pass my wife's 'clean kitchen and bathroom test'. Anneth Lowen passed this with flying colours. I can tell that the owner of this cottage likes to cook - you're spoilt for every possible type of pan and implement. The cottage is really comfy and decorated to a very high standard, with some lovely art works and locally sourced objects with excellent taste. Lovely linen, soft furnishings and a Pure DAB radio plus an open fire add to the comfort and ambience.

We found the 'chest of fun' very useful on a wet day - stuffed to the gunnels with games, DVDs and playstation games. There's an attention to detail here that is lacking in so many other self catering experiences we have had. Even found a new tooth brush lurking, should you need one on arrival.

On a sunny evening the large adjoining lawn is an excellent location for a bbq or a kick-a-bout with a football.

Now I'm home, after a week in Anneth Lowen, my own house feels grubby and shabby! Why doesn't my lawn look as good as theirs?
