Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Flagstaff - The Cottage On Birch, Downtown

Cozy but modern cottage that is designed for your comfort in the center of town!

The Cottage on Birch is in Flagstaff's Historic Townsite residential neighborhood, 8 blocks from the center of Historic Downtown. It is the perfect base for year-round activities in and around Flagstaff.

The cozy two bedroom, one bath cottage has a queen bed in the first bedroom, and two twins (that can be made into a king bed) in the second bedroom. The kitchen is small but well thought out with everything needed to cook full meals, and the dining area has linens for comfortable dining.

There is wifi and a smart DVD player, plus a bluetooth soundbar to use with music from your own device.

The house is light, airy, and sunny year-round. When the weather is warm (usually from Mid-May through September--sometimes earlier or later) you can enjoy the beautiful yard, comfortable seating, 6-person outdoor dining table, BBQ, and lounge chairs on the lawn under the crab apple tree.

Whatever your interests--from relaxing to enjoying downtown nightlife to hiking and outdoor sports, the Cottage on Birch is the perfect place to stay in Flagstaff.

About Constance Taylor

I have lived in Flagstaff for 24 years--from 1980 to 2002, then left and returned again in 2013. In Flagstaff I have had retail businesses, worked at NAU, and completed two degrees from NAU. After spending 8 years in Phoenix I returned to my home in Flagstaff in 2013, and am excited to share this place in the BEST part of Flagstaff with you, my guests!

I am a professional woman who is passionate about travel, food, and culture and sharing these experiences with others. I'm an avid cook and a frequent traveler within the western U.S. and Europe (especially Italy), but have visited many other places on the globe over the years. I don't travel as a tourist, but like to live in places like a local while I am there. I am excited to share this experience with others when they stay in my lovely downtown Flagstaff property.

Constance Taylor purchased this cottage in 1998

Why Constance Taylor chose Arizona

This cottage was built as a mother-in-law cottage sometime in the 50s or 60s behind the original historic 1923 home. I have lovingly updated the cottage, keeping it cozy and cute, but modernizing it along the way. The beds are comfy, the kitchen is well equipped, and the cottage is clean as a whistle.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage is behind the original 1923 home on the property which was built the same year my mother was born, and was one of the few on the street when it was built. It shares a patio and BBQ with the Cottage on Birch. The yard is open to the neighborhood, which gives guests a great feeling of being a part of this beautiful historic area.

Great stay at this great location!

  • 5 of 5

My family had a great stay at the cottage. The location is terrific, it is really close to downtown and to NAU. It was a nice size for the 4 of us and we had everything we needed. We would definitely stay here again.

Spotless, cozy, perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the cottage with our baby. The cottage was spotless enough to lay here down anywhere. The beds were very comfortable, in fact it was the best sleep I received in months with a baby! The cottage is the perfect location with just a short walk from hiking trails, a park and downtown. The owner was extremely helpful and kind and made our stay even more welcoming. It was a beautiful weekend when we were there and it was lovely to enjoy the sun on the outdoor patio. We would definitely stay here again!

Wonderful cottage, great location

  • 5 of 5

Connie's wonderful cottage made our stay in Flagstaff a trip to remember. It was in a great location---easy to walk downtown or leave the city for day trips in the area. The neighborhood was very pleasant for walks; the cozy patio wonderful for morning tea or evening wine and cheese. The cottage was very clean and provided everything a person could need. Thanks, Connie, for everything!

Welcome home

  • 5 of 5

Thanks Connie for an easy access ,quiet and comfortable home base in Flagstaff. Yes we did some road trips in our weeks visit but there was plenty to see in the local neighborhood. (Especially Lowell Observatory for programs and outdoor walking trails) We relaxed in the courtyard in the early sunshine and after a day's drive. Had everything we needed as promised and pictured, and more, since the days were in the warm 70's all week. Just needed slippers for

cold floors at night. Neighbor Donna gave us great tips and ideas. Made for a perfect fall visit to AZ.

Flagstaff stay 2016

  • 5 of 5

The property was just the job for us. We could walk into Flagstaff from the leafy older part of the town. The property is in a residential area and was quiet enough. I judge quiet by were we live in the Brecon Beacons with no street lighting and in the middle of nowhere.

The beds where comfortable; the place well equipped for cooking your own meals; the washing and drying equipment kept up with us hiking types.

Connie and her sisters where always ready to help and great for advice.

I like the USA, I like Arizona the people are friendly and polite. I shall come back to Flagstaff in 2017.

Owner's Response: Thanks Derek, and it was lovely to host you and your family! I look forward to seeing you again on your next USA visit. Those "sisters" are my best friends who live in Phoenix and love to visit cool Flagstaff. You'll probably see them here if and when you visit again! cheers, Connie

Super clean, super location cottage in Flagstaff

  • 4 of 5

We recently spent 14 days at the Cottage on Birch and enjoyed our time in Flagstaff. Our cottage was ready for us when we arrived. It was very clean and nicely furnished. Connie is a great owner/hostess. She was available during our stay to provide info, extra towels and bedding, etc.

The kitchen is small but nicely stocked with the items necessary for meal preparation and storage. One thing that was a bit of a surprise was that there was no garbage disposal. This necessitated gathering and disposing of our food scraps, etc. and putting it in the wastebasket. Connie did mention to us that she has plans to remodel the kitchen and add a small dishwasher and a garbage disposal in the near future.

The location of the cottage was ideal for walks to the Historic Downtown area and train station (about 4 or 5 short blocks away). Also, the neighborhood is so quiet and pleasant with huge trees along each side of the street providing beauty and lots of shade. There was also a nice outdoor area for our use, but, unfortunately, due to a lot of rain, there were mosquitos who wanted to share our space with us! ;-)

The Cottage on Birch is in Flagstaff's Historic Townsite residential neighborhood, 8 blocks from the center of Historic Downtown, and two blocks from Thorpe Park and an extensive urban trail system (FUTS). In the spring, summer, and fall there are lots of festivals, music events, and arts fairs. In the the winter you can enjoy skiing, snowboarding, and winter sports. Year-round, there are great restaurants, bars, music, and arts events just minutes away by foot, bicycle, or car.

The cottage is convenient to Lowell Observatory, the Museum of Northern Arizona, Coconino Center for the Arts, Northern Arizona University, The Arboretum and Flagstaff, Walnut Canyon National Monument.

Flagstaff is 140 miles north of Phoenix, 79 miles southeast of the Grand Canyon South Rim, and 30 miles from Sedona via Oak Creek Canyon. It is an excellent location to base outdoor trips in Northern Arizona, and a leaping off point for Four Corners and the National Parks of Utah and Colorado.

But, the best thing about the cottage is its location in the center of the Historic Townsite, a quiet, residential neighborhood. When the weather is warm (usually from Mid-May through September--sometimes earlier or later) you can enjoy the beautiful yard, comfortable seating, 6-person outdoor dining table, BBQ, and lounge chairs on the lawn under the crab apple tree. People walk dogs, bicycle, and even stop to say hi if you're interested! It's a two block walk to Thorpe Park which is a grassy playground and tennis courts, and from there you can walk, run, or bike along miles of trails in the Flagstaff Urban Trails System (FUTS).

Whatever your interests--from relaxing to enjoying downtown nightlife to hiking and outdoor sports, the Cottage on Birch is the perfect place to stay in Flagstaff.
