Overview

About the property

2 bedroom, 1 bath, right in Waitsfield village

A 3-unit structure, this is at least part of Ezra Wait's old house and tavern, according to town history. I the owner live in the front unit, the middle unit is the rental, and the back (the old barn) is commercial space rented to an amazing architect.

Recently renovated, the rental is modest but comfortable. I tried to be green where possible with the renovation - the island countertop is old blackboard slate, the downstairs floor though new, is from timber across the gap, salvageable original floorboards were saved for the sliding barn door, trashcans are old sap buckets, etc.

Small as it is, the property has 4 plum trees, 1 cherry tree, 2 pair trees (not fruiting yet), 2 apple trees, and blueberry, blackberry, raspberry, gooseberry, and seaberry plants. The aim is to create an edible landscape, but it's at the beginning. About 1/3 of the property is wooded, which leaves for a small yard.

About Meg

Former Manhattanite, city mouse turned country mouse.

Meg purchased this apartment in 2008

Why Meg chose Waitsfield

Location. In the summer I mostly get around by bike and by foot.

What makes this apartment unique

Right in the village, but set back from the road. The river is across the street (Rt 100). On the Mad Bus shuttle route to Sugarbush (operates in winter).

You have access to my bike repair stand (Feedback Pro Elite). There are 2 bike shops very nearby - 1) a few doors away, http://fitwerx.com/about-us/vermont-shop/ and 2) a mile away, https://www.facebook.com/Stark-Mtn-Bike-Works-101895251349/

If you absolutely have to work, there's a co-working office across the street with super fast internet http://www.valleyworksvt.org/

Perfect house for village life! Clean, plenty of room and very accommodating owner.

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed here for a week on our honeymoon. From the time we arrived, Meg made sure we had everything we needed and she continued to check on us throughout the week. The house is in the perfect location, right across the street from the heart of town with shops, a few restaurants, and a great bakery. The house is located in Waitsfield which made it easy for us to take several different day trips to explore surrounding villages. Meg left menus and brochures for restaurants and activities in the area and we loved the map of the town she drew on the chalkboard counter in the kitchen. If we are ever in the area again we won’t hesitate to stay here!

Cozy, quaint, convenient

Our annual fall trip to Vermont was made even better by the comfortable accommodations we had in this home. Meg made reserving the home very easy and made sure we had everything we needed, providing great information on the area. We won't hesitate to come back next year!

Simply Wonderful Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

Our recent stay at Meg's pre-1845 village property was beyond delightful! The cottage was a simple, comfortable and a relaxing environment. Meg was friendly and available to answer questions and provide information about Wakefield. The village is charming with great restaurants, shops and swimming near the covered bridge! The location is a perfect home-base for exploring hiking trails, waterfalls, nearby small villages and local artists at work. One of the highlights was the weekly "round-up" of food trucks by the river with live music. It was a great event for all ages. We definitely plan to return to continue exploring and enjoying this wonderful area while staying in this lovely cottage!

Great host, perfect location, sweet cottage

  • 5 of 5

Another perfect stay! We'll be making this an annual Vermont getaway location and look forward to seeing Meg again next summer. It's a great location for relaxation, exploration, hiking, biking and wonderful restaurants, and when it's rainy and you want to chill out with a book, Farr Cry Homestead is very comfy and cosy. Thanks again, Meg! 😀

Sympathetic house in lovely Waitesfield, Vermont

  • 5 of 5

We really had a good time in Meg's house in Waitesfield! The house has a lot of space and is decorated very tastefully. Meg has done a lot of work to make it a home away from home. She is prepared very well, and left us good instructions for where to eat, and what to do. Next to it there was a gift certificate for a very nice bakery around the corner "to encourage us to get to know the neighbourhood'. We really appreciated that.

Waitesfield is a charming town in Vermont, with nice restaurants and lots of nature. We therefore fully recommend this place.

Very comfortable, and great location!

  • 5 of 5

My wife, son, and I just got back from a wonderful 3-night stay at this property. It was exactly as we expected; comfortable, charming, well-furnished, and clean. We were pleasantly surprised to find a lot more within walking distance than we expected, including multiple restaurants, shops, a small grocery store, etc, all in the immediate vicinity. We also appreciated that Waitsfield is situated conveniently between Montpelier, Stowe, and Burlington, and we visited all three areas! As a host, Meg was extremely welcoming and helpful. We hope to stay here again sometime, and we recommend it to others!

Mad River (across the st, but no view from house)
Car: recommended

The Mad River is across the street and a dip is really refreshing. Right there is The Sweet Spot for coffee, espresso drinks, locally made small batch French style custard ice cream, and the best coconut cupcakes in the world:) The sports store in the village runs short tubing and kayaking trips when the river is high enough.

The village also has The Artisan's Gallery with craft from Vermont artists, a small museum (weekends), the town library, a very sweet church, a deli, and more.

The movie theater (and restaurant), The Big Picture, is 1/4 mile walk. The Waitsfield Farmer's Market (Saturdays) is a little further. There's a sidewalk from the village to both places, and the more commercial part of town.
