About Cherie Scoffield

We inherited this 100 year old property and moved here in 2003. We are retired, and working locally. My husband is the Garfield County Tourism Representative around the world for our beautiful area. I work at the local elementary school We raised seven children and now have 19 grandchildren. We were born and raised in Utah but lived in several other states. My husband is a Navy Captain and is very patriotic. We love yard work, hiking, the canyon, and the close knit community we live in.

What makes this cottage unique

Our home is located under the escarpment of Bryce Canyon which is 12 miles away. The drive to and from is always an enjoyable one. The views from our home feature red rock formations and the white mountains as well as the small town country setting with sheep, cows, horses etc. It is a peaceful small town of only 150 residents, quiet, beautiful and a place of healing from the noise and crowds of city life.

Notes:
Individual tours available upon request. My husband is a tour guide for the Bryce Canyon area as well as the hikes. We recommend a day hike at Willis Creek, off Scutumpa Road. The hike is for all ages. Other hikes for families in this area can be found at Kodachrome State Park and Mossy Cave. We have a Wild Life Museum about 1 mile before reaching Bryce Canyon and several trail ride businesses for ATV's or horses for added adventure. A nice place to eat is at the Pines about 2 miles before Bryce for homemade soups and pie. The Pizza Place in Tropic is also a great place for family dinners. The Market there is the go to place for any supplies you need and they just opened a Rustlers Restaurant next door. In Cannonville, at the Grand Staircase Inn they have a an "IDK" (honey, "I Don't Know" when ask where they want to eat) eating kiosk which is rated highly for the scrumptious meat they prepare for sandwiches and other meals. Hiking the red rocks in town are also great fun.

Amazing! Wonderful for families!

First off, this place was immaculate! It's absolutely beautiful, and we felt right at home! It is very spacious too! We got in late and were afraid we were lost...the owners text us back immediately and even went out with a flashlight to wave us down! My children loved the loft and bunk beds. All of the beds were very comfortable! We cannot wait to stay here again, and wish we could have stayed longer! As a side bonus, my kids LOVED the homemade chocolate chip cookies!

Cute little bungalow only a short drive from Bryce.

Place is exactly as described. Was just what we needed for our visit to Bryce Canyon. No dishwasher or washer/dryer, which we were ok with, but if planning a longer stay or have a larger group just be aware. Ruby's Inn/General Store in Bryce Canyon City (just outside the park entrance) has just about everything you need, and is open on Sundays when most other stores are closed.

Exactly what we were looking for!

  • 5 of 5

We love to stay away from tourist areas but close enough to get there in a decent amount of time. This guest house fit the bill perfectly. We stayed two nights. The house was spotless clean when we arrived. We cooked breakfast and dinner each day and had all we needed to prepare and cook the meals. The bedroom queen bed was comfortable and my daughter said the same about the bed in the main living area. My 12 year old son owned the loft area and absolutely loved hanging out up there. We really appreciated the large bathroom with plenty of room to change clothes.

The drive to the gate at Bryce Canyon was 20 minutes tops. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Loved it! Would come again!!

Clean, comfortable, beautifully decorated . . . more than I would have expected. Close to Bryce, yet far enough away to not be in the crowds. Also right outside Escalante National Monument (for shorter hikes that complemented our longer Bryce hikes). Would be happy to recommend to anyone looking to explore the area!!

Loved it!

We stayed three nights at the Country Bunkhouse, and were very happy to have chosen this great accommodation. The description and photos on the listing are accurate, but it is even better in real life. The location was perfect for us - quiet little town close to plenty of hiking opportunities. We enjoyed long hikes in Kodachrome Basin State Park and Bryce Canyon NP, and went for a slot canyon hike in nearby Willis Creek. The cottage itself is cozy, immaculate, spacious for two people, with amazingly comfortable beds and a great shower for after all the hiking. Cherie was easily accessible by message, and we enjoyed meeting her and her husband - very nice hosts! If we return to the area on a future trip, this will certainly be our first choice of accommodation. Thank you, Cherie!
