Location of apartment: The apartment is perfectly situated within the historical centre of Loreto and is only a 3 min walk from the piazza where you can take a leisurely stroll or enjoy a drink or coffee in one of the numerous bars. The local restaurants are within walking distance and specialise in local cuisine which is well worth a try. These are New Evo, and a restaurant within Hotel Loreblisk which is open to the public with breathtaking views over the town. Loreto Aprutino is an historical & cultural gem, a place to spend time for the perfect holiday. It has maintained its authenticity of real Italian life.
The town of Loreto is very proud of its religious traditions and celebrates the festival of San Zopito every June which attracts a large number of tourists to celebrate the kneeling down of a white ox with a small child upon its back. This festival is extremely symbolic..
It is also perfectly located for both beach and mountain holiday. Montisilvano beach being 20 min away. Pescara airport 30 min. Alternatively a day skiing in the Gran Sasso mountains is a mere 40 min by car. The enchanting town of Penne is well worth a visit to experience the architecture of a town which was actually built before Rome. The streets of Penne are lined with numerous shops and restaurants. this takes you approx. 15 min by car.
Surrounding area: The Abruzzo region has so much to offer the the holiday maker who wants to experience real Italian culture. For the more adventurous, the Gran Sasso & Maiella mountains both have a mass expanse of National Park to explore which is the home to bears & wolves. Here the sightseeing views are breathtaking of the Abruzzo region at its best.
Also on the piazza is a tourist information bureau where valuable brochures and advice on exploring the Abruzzo region and places of interest can be found. Together with directions to the 3 local museums and 2 churches situated within the historical town of Loreto. Not forgetting on a Thursday morning Loreto comes alive with the local market situated in the streets leading up to and surrounding the piazza, where you can experience Italian culture and sample the local cuisine known as ' porchetta' which is a suckling pig on hot spit served fresh.
Loreto town has many convenience stores including a supermarket, pharmacy, post office, cash point.

Message: Dear David and Kathryn,
Everything worked out for the best.
Thank you for everything and for the use of your wonderful house an lovely environment, two meals at Casina Rosa.
And, as you are well aware, Rita is a saint!
Dear David & Kathryn
I would like to thank you for the use of your very unique and traditional italian apartment. we used the sun terrace nearly every night which was very relaxing. The patio on the ground level was a godsend for ' al fresco' dining, although we ate out in the local restaurents we found them very reasonable.
One inparticular was NEW EVO which was timed as a 3 mins. walk from the flat. Loreto itself was great, the locals we found were more than helpful although not a word in english was spoken. if you dont mind me mentioning in your advert the lovely beach at MONTESILVANO and in contrast the beautiful GRAN SASSO. having said that all our party agrees that over populated tourism will spoil the area and that would be a shame.
Once again many thanks and we will definately be back to rent your lovely apartment.
We spent a very relaxing week in Loreto. The appartment was in an old house, but was very spacious and comfortable. Much bigger than we thought and well-equippped and well looked after. We spent several nights on the sun-roof looking over the hills with a glass of wine. Wonderful.
Loreto is a lovely little town, with a number of good restaurants. However, we also made use of the well-equipped kitchen and made a few dinners using home-cooked food. There are a number of small shops (vegetable shop, fish shop and butcher) where we bought what we needed, but there is also a big supermarket very close by. Nothing beats those local vegetables in taste and flavour. Try the sausages from the butcher - heavenly.
Loreto is only a short distance to Pescara and the beaches there, we went there a couple of times. really nice.
Only one thing was a bit misleading. The flat was advertized as "in the mountains" - not quite true. If you want to go proper hiking in the Gran Sasso National Park- this is not the really a place to stay for such activities unless you like driving. Although on the map the distances are not very far, to get to the nearest hiking trails past Ferindola meant driving an hour one way on very damaged, windy roads. The best hikes were further afield, and to be in the real high country takes nearly two hours (one way) of bumpy, painful driving. We had to go to Farindola to get a proper topographical hiking map from the Park Office there. The owners of the flat went to great lengths to provide maps of hiking trails, but some of the trails appeared to have deteriorated - probably the result of this side of the Abruzzo being somewhat neglected. There are not many people about. However, the mountains are beautiful, the people very helpful, the food is good and if you want to really chill out - thats where you should go.
If you are looking for a quiet break in an amazing location with friendly locals in a very nice appartment with all amenities - you can't go wrong with this.
P.S. Kathryn and David are also very helpful and accommodating.
From our first meeting with Rita, the local caretaker, to our last goodbye, our stay was thoroughly enjoyable.
Walking through the town was a pleasure, cooking supplies we're easily accessible, reasonable and fresh.
I will recommend this location to friends.
We felt the appartment was a very good location with a a genuine feel. We all voted it the best bed during our trip. We where able to cook several times and enjoyed this with such a large kitchen. In addition, we loved the breeze from the somewhat elevation. It is a beautiful area. I would rent there again! Thanks for a wonderful time and sharing your place with us. The housekeeper that let us in (Rita) was extremely helpful and nice.

Staying with our hosts really was like taking our home away for us with four kids aged 6 to 16, if not better: the place was like an Englishman's castle, cool and calm in an Italian summer; the medieval town against the panorama of the Gran Sasso speaks for itself; the caretaker was there for us 24/24, be it to recommend the best ice or skewers in town, to take our girls to the doctor, or to advise us on the freshest fruit, or the nicer beaches.
Definitely an allrounder for impressionist views, for hiking, Pescara's metropolitan charme, and, of course, for a beach holiday.
“It is fate that I am here,' George persisted, 'but you can call it Italy if it makes you less unhappy.”

P.S.: O yes, of course, the property was clean, fully equipped, and as we found it on the net.

Ski: Roccaraso, the region's most established ski resort. Most established but happily not overdeveloped. It nestles pleasingly in a conservation area, meaning that the outlook from the slopes is unadulterated powder, and lush forest. this ski resort is situated approx 1 and a half hours away from Loreto.
Another gem is Passo Lanciano which is nearer to Loreto and hosts excellent skiing, approx 40 min away.
