Classic Beach Cottage - steps from the beach

You’ll love this spacious beach cottage with the charm of yesteryear. The house has 4 bedrooms (sleeps 8 - 10) and 1 ½ baths and is ideal for a large family or 2 smaller families. Each of the 3 upstairs bedrooms has 2 twins that can be used as is, or made into a king. One of the rooms also has a full sized futon. The downstairs bedroom has a full sized bed. The house offers a small kitchen, with refrigerator, coffee maker, toaster, electric range, microwave, & dishwasher, a large dining room, and large family room with TV & WIFI. The driveway provides parking for up to 4 cars.

In the backyard there is a small deck with picnic table & chairs and a charcoal grill, which is great for rinsing off, hanging out, or having an outdoor dinner. As well, the house has a large garage stocked with all types of beach toys, rafts, & a surf board. There are beach chairs as well, but we recommend bringing your own since we cannot guarantee their condition.

Just over 100 steps on a quiet street from the front door is the best clean and sandy beach. There are no long walks to the water’s edge on this part of the island and lifeguards are conveniently set up by the 27th St. beach entrance. The beach house comes with 6 beach badges (Beach badges are not required for children under 12 years old) Enjoy sunbathing, surfing, fishing, shelling and relaxing.

Ship Bottom & the area

Long Beach Island was ranked as one of the top five Family Beaches in the USA by National Geographic Traveler Magazine in 2003. Ship Bottom boasts 1.5 miles of the greatest beaches on Long Beach Island, and is located near the causeway so there’s no waiting in island traffic when you want to get to your beach house.

The house is ideally located walking distance to many excellent restaurants, coffee, ice cream, boat rentals, miniature golf, arcade, marina, crabbing dock and excellent bakeries. It is just a short walk to LBI’s famous Joe Pop’s Shore Bar, as well as Surf Taco, Ship Bottom Shellfish, Bageleddie’s, LBI Pancake House, pizza, surf shop with surf board and bicycle rentals, a park with basketball courts, baseball field and jungle gym for the kids, ATM machine and a liquor store. Everything is within walking distance!

Area attractions include Barnegat Lighthouse and Barnegat Light State Park, Forsythe Wildlife Preserve, Surf light Theater, Viking Village and Museum of NJ Maritime History. Fantasy Island Amusement Park and Thundering Surf Water Park are located just 15 minutes away.

This house is an LBI original and landmark built by my family over 90 years ago and occupied for over 70 years by the original owners; a Naval captain and his artist wife. It has not been refinished, has limited air conditioning & offers the charm & experience of a traditional beach house. My family has enjoyed our beach house for many years and we are confident you will too.

Linens and towels are available but we expect them to be left laundered & folded. There is a nearby laundromat, however we suggest bringing your own to avoid the hassle.

Quaint Beach House

We thoroughly enjoyed this little throwback home nestled in a quiet street with easy beach access and easy walking access to town activities. We would definitely stay again! It might be helpful to others to know the shower is quiet small. We aren’t big people so that didn’t bother us but might be a tight squeeze for some larger-bodied individuals! Thank you for a lovely home away from home!

3 houses from the beach

This historic home is located very close to the beach. There was only air conditioning in 3 bedrooms. There were only fans in the livingroom, diningroom and kitchen (which reached highs of 90 degrees, not with the stove on). I had to do a deep clean upon my arrival. There was mold on the back of the bathroom door, thick dust on the window fan in the kitchen and on all of the a/c units. I scrubbed the dirty handrail that went to the 2nd floor, the top of the refrigerator and the paper towel holder. The toilet seat was loose, and the pillows were really stained. In the first floor bedroom, the 2 dressers were full and since there's no closet, my husband and I kept our clothes in our luggage. The 2 recycling cans and the garbage can were filled outside upon our arrival. The written directions for the house were from 2016. They should be updated yearly.

Historic beach cottage

Charm abounds in this historic beach cottage! Step back into another era and experience the history of this home. Walking distance to the bakery, candy store, mini golf, ice cream, surf shop, arcade, the gorgeous sunset; its location is ideal! Perfect for quick on and off the beach with kids and perfect for scooters and bikes on this quiet beach street. The main living areas get very hot but ac units in 3/4 bedrooms make sleeping comfortable. Lots of beds is a plus and rinsing off in outdoor hose/shower head space is convenient after a day on the beach!

Location and Charm

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this rustic beach house. It had great vibes and was super close to the beautiful beach. It was a very quiet, quaint street with lovely older neighbors (no noisy parties/renters). We walked to the amazing bakery every day, shopping, dinner and a fantastic toy store. If you are looking for new and shiny, this vacation rental is not for you. Thank you for making your house available for rent!

Fantastic Stay Steps from the Beach

Our group had a fantastic stay at this home! The location could not be better, you are practically on the beach, just steps from the front door. The beach itself is fairly quiet and private we had plenty of space. The house is walking distance from a few food spots and a quick drive to many restaurants and the grocery store. The house is a classic beach house which is perfect for a big group or families: lots of beds, nothing too fancy, and a small backyard space. The only tough part was having one small shower but we made it work with 7 people. Neighborhood is quiet and friendly plus plenty of parking. We're hoping to go back next year!

Why they chose this property

The house was built by our grandfather and great-grandfather in the the 20’s, as were several of the houses on the street. Most of the block were settled by families from Haddonfield, NJ. Our grandparents were world travelers and much of the decoration is either from their travels or is art that our grandmother created or wove.

The house is currently owned and managed by the 3rd generation, Mark Magray, Melissa Rowe, Alex Sweeton & Leslie Paytes. We were all raised spending our summers at Ship Bottom house, as were our children, who are all now adults.

We hope you enjoy this home as much as we do.
