Cozy Secluded Lakefront Cottage WITH BOAT! Boat Access Only!

Bedrooms 2
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Large Screened Porch; Gorgeous view of the lake! Amazing Sunrises & Foliage!

This cottage is available for vacation rental from May (Memorial Day Weekend) through the first week in October. It offers private and peaceful setting....situated lakeside on Highland Lake in Stoddard, New Hampshire and can ONLY be accessed by boat.

There is NO BATHROOM OR SHOWER IN THE HOUSE. Just steps outside, there is a very clean and functional outhouse as well as a heated, private, outdoor shower (more description below). We (the owners) live on the opposite side of the lake and up the street from the Highland Lake Marina & Restaurant where you will park upon arrival. We will greet you there and bring you over to show you around. We will be a phone call away if you need assistance with anything during your stay.

When you arrive at the Marina & Restaurant, you take a 3 minute boat ride directly across the lake to the cottage in a 15' motorboat with a 15 hp motor which is included with this rental OR YOU CAN BRING YOUR OWN BOAT! Additionally, guided pontoon boat tours of the lake are available (at additional cost)...take a 2 hour cruise of the entire lake and/or rent by the boat & driver and stop to swim, bring a cooler with your favorite cocktails! Please contact us for rates....

Included in the rental is a 15' outboard motorboat, a pontoon paddle boat, a kayak and a canoe. The lake is 9 miles long which makes for beautiful, relaxing & fun boat rides. There are several coves to explore.....Perfect for canoe or paddle boat rides and where you will likely see many types of fish, birds, turtles and other wildlife!

The cottage is nestled in the side of a hill on 400 feet of lakefront property covered with blueberry bushes and surrounded by woods. There is one large aluminum dock on the water's edge with stairs leading into the water. The water is shallow along the shore, nice for the smaller children to wade in and gets deeper further out which is great for jumping and fun for everyone!

The cottage is one of the few "original camps" on the Lake! It is completely furnished. It sleeps six (6) (there is also a roll-away twin bed available). It has four (4) rooms: one bedroom with two (2) twin beds; one bedroom with a queen-size bed and a set of bunk beds and a couple nice spots for tents outside as well. There is a fully equipped kitchen with a stove and refrigerator and a living room with a television and DVD player. Internet service/Wi-Fi is provided and there is free WIFI at the Marina as well. Although we have tried, unfortunately, DISH TV service is not available at this location.

The water into the house is lake water. DRINKING WATER MUST BE BROUGHT IN. The lake water can be boiled and is fine to wash dishes. We bathe in the lake or use the heated lake-water outdoor shower which is enclosed and private. As already mentioned above, there is no bathroom inside the house. Currently there is a clean & easily-accessible outhouse available steps away from the back side of the house.

The cottage has a large, furnished screened porch and a breathtaking view of the lake, fall foliage, amazing sunrises and stars galore!! There is a fire pit, gas grill and hammock hanging between two trees for relaxing near the shore.

We have neighbors on either side. Although, they are a distance away and separated by wooded areas, they are enjoying Lake life too AND they are very important to us! Please be respectful of our neighbors and REMEMBER that VOICES CARRY on the water!!!

Enjoy awesome hiking on trails accessible on the lake (Stoddard Rocks/Pioneer Lake), excellent fishing including trophy-winning bass tournaments, blueberry picking (Pitcher Mountain - Yankee Magazine's Top NE Blueberry picking spot!), swimming, boating, scenic drives, beautiful foliage, bird watching (including loons, bald eagles and lots of hummingbirds!), wildlife sightings including many species of fish and butterflies, an occasional moose or bear, gorgeous flowers including mountain laurel and ladies' slippers.

Although this cottage is remotely located, you can jump in the boat and just across the lake is the Highland Lake Marina & Restaurant where you can purchase gasoline, visit their small convenience store for any needed supplies or have a delicious home-cooked meal inside or on the docks. You can take a drive and in 30 minutes you can be in Keene where there are many nice antique & specialty shops, grocery stores, a weekend farmers market and restaurants. The cottage is 20 minutes from Mt. Sunapee's zip-lining and mountain-top gondola rides as well as MANY, MANY OTHER NEARBY ATTRACTIONS!

About Bruce and Karen Bell

We were raised in Milford, CT and spent every summer here at my family's cottage on Highland Lake in Stoddard, NH. This cottage was purchased by my grandparents in 1954. My husband and I just recently moved to New Hampshire permanently and live across from the cottage on the other side of the lake. It has become financially necessary for us to begin renting it as a vacation spot to others so that we can afford to keep it in our family. We are hoping to find some people/families who will love our cottage as much as we do and become return customers annually!

Bruce and Karen Bell purchased this cabin in 1954

Why Bruce and Karen Bell chose Stoddard

This cottage was purchased by my grandparents and passed down through the generations. You can't see it from a glance but it's the place where I learned to walk; where my family played a game called "I doubt it" on the porch at night; it's where I learned to swim; it's where I caught my first fish and learned to clean it with my dad and sister; its where time goes by faster than any other place on earth; it's where I feel most at home....... It's the place where memories are made!!

What makes this cabin unique

This cottage is quiet and peaceful. It is boat-accessed only. We love it because of the seclusion and serenity it provides. Although, it is secluded, it's just a 20-30 minute ride to town where you can do your shopping, catch a movie or eat at a restaurant. The large screened porch is so welcoming and is the perfect spot to sit with your morning coffee and watch the sun rise, watch and listen to the loons or catch a view of the hummingbirds at their feeders. The view of the lake from the porch is breath-taking. The night sky is spectacular, full of stars brighter than we've ever seen! The water is so refreshing and clean! The fishing is awesome! The local people are nice! We love our cottage and we hope you do too!

Awesome cabin on the lake

  • 5 of 5

The cabin on the lake was great. Karen and Bruce were the kindest of hosts. The cabin was rustic and we loved that. It really had a nostalgic feel to it. The decorations were great! We loved hanging out in the screened in porch and on the dock by the water. Having to leave your car at the marina really made it feel like we were getting away from it all. The drive over on the boat made the trip very special. The marina was like something out of a classic movie. Highland lake is a hidden gem. This was a perfect spot for our little get away vacation weekend.

Great weekend getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Spent 3 days enjoying the lake and the cottage. Having everything you need to cook and sleep comfortably we're a welcome change from what we're used to.

Bruce and Karen are great and were easy to work with. Definitely worth the trip and hope to return, hopefully with a couple jet skis next year!!

Reunion on the lake

  • 4 of 5

We had a good time at the cabin on the lake sharing a family reunion. When a question came up, the Bells were there to help us out. Will consider a return.

Unique experience

  • 4 of 5

Best way to describe the cottage is glamorized camping. We wanted a camping feel without having to sleeping outside in a tent. This is exactly what we were looking for. The outdoor fire pit and screened in porch have it the outdoorsy feel but when it was time to go to sleep, we had the luxury of going inside and laying in a bed. When it came time to play on the lake we enjoyed the kayaks and canoe. Having to take a boat ride to get to the marina store and restaurant was great. The kids enjoyed that part. Fishing off the dock was great. It was the kids first time fishing and they caught tons of fish!! My nephew is now obsessed with fishing. The owners Karen and Bruce were super nice. Explained everything we needed to know. Very quick to respond anytime I had a question. Just want to thank them for giving us the opportunity to recant out there cottage. We had a very unique experience we will never forget!

Awesome place to relax and have fun.

  • 4 of 5

We spent a weekend at the cottage and had a wonderful time. Bruce and Karen were very friendly and responsive.

Had a great time using the kayaks and the unique paddle boat, but we enjoyed the motor boat the most. We spent most of the time exploring the lake in motor boat which was a new experience for us. The cottage was great and equipped with all the things that you will need for a weekend getaway.

The only con about this cottage is that there is no bathroom inside the house. Although there is a clean outhouse outside, it may be inconvenient for some to use it during the night time. Except that this is a perfect place to be to relax on a weekend.
