This charming 1950's Cedar Log Cabin is the perfect spot to get away from it all and still be able to enjoy the attractions of St Louis. Beautiful drive through State Conservation Areas take you to a 20+ acre lake and this little country jewel. Darcie's little cabin has been referred to as "A Little Slice of Heaven" by many of her guests. All of the vintage treasures that you'll find throughout the cabin will help transport you to a simpler time when recreation and relaxation were a way of life.
Great for small families who want to spend quality time together and get away from the hustle and bustle of life. Take the kayaks out on the lake or just hang out on the private dock and observe nature. Fishing poles are available if you want to fish for catfish, blue gill, crappy or small-mouth bass.
Also perfect for couples looking for a quiet, romantic get-away. Very comfy queen bed with a view of the lake features soft linens and vintage quilts. You'll enjoy cooking together in the cute, vintage kitchen with the original sink and faucet. (Yes, it leaks a little, but that's part of the charm). You'll find everything you need to cook a delicious meal that you can enjoy on the picnic table overlooking the lake. Anything that you find in the stocked pantry is your's to use.
Start a fire in the big stone fireplace. Firewood and all the fixings for S'mores are provided free of charge! There is also a fire pit out by the lake. It's fun to sit by the lake around a fire and listen to the big bull frogs!
One of my favorite spots at the cabin is the front porch. You'll find two twin daybeds which are very comfortable. It's a great place to curl up with a book and look out over the lake. It is not heated or cooled, tho, so if you're using it for sleeping, you may feel a little warm in the summer or cold in the winter. On this porch you'll find a corn hole game, life jackets (mostly kids sizes), fishing poles, and extra lawn chairs.
At night, the living room can be transformed into your own private movie theater! A fabric screen can be lowered from the ceiling and the Epson Movie Mate projector will play DVDs (nice selection to choose from) or you can stream movies from the ROKU player. The Roku has a Netflix account and other types of programming for you to enjoy free of charge. There is also wifi so you can check email or browse the internet.
You'll also find lots of board games and books and magazines to read as well as Lincoln Logs and Legos for the kids. My kids have generously donated the use of their Wii as well! There is a tv that can be hooked up to either the Wii or the Roku if you want to use it instead of the movie screen. I do not have cable tv, however, because I want to encourage my kids to turn the TV OFF. (Hint: sometimes I unhook the wifi too, and "pretend" that it's not working. If you do this, though, please remember to turn it back on before you leave).
Another great convenience is the washer and dryer located in the kitchen area. There is also detergent provided.
I'm happy to allow you to bring your pet as long as it's potty trained. There is a non-refundable pet fee of $50.
I'm a mom of two great kids, a realtor and a decorator who lives in Saint Louis. It has always been a dream of mine to own a lake house. When I found this sweet little log cabin, I couldn't resist buying it. I filled it with everything I love and try to spend as much time there as I can.
It has always brought me a lot of joy to share my cabin with my friends and family. About a year ago, I decided to share it beyond my circle of family and friends and offer it for rent to others. I love reading the reviews that people write in my guest book.
Darcie Sheehan purchased this cabin in 2013
I love this property for so many reasons, but the reason that I bought it was because it was close enough to St Louis, where I live full-time, that I could actually envision really getting to use the cabin even when my kid's schedules and clients keep my busy.
I love the location of the cabin on this little lake. It's very near the spillway, so if the lake is high enough, it creates a little waterfall that can be heard from my cabin, especially after a heavy rain.
I love that the kitchen still features the original metal cabinets and the old sink. It leaks a little but I kind of think that's part of the charm!
I grew up in a small town in Iowa. I love that my cabin is part of the rural communities of Pacific and Eureka, where people aren't too busy to chat with you.
I wanted to give my kids a little slice of the kind of life I had when I was growing up in Iowa. I have been able to give them some incredible memories because of this little cabin:
Easter Egg hunts by the lake, swimming off the dock in the middle of the lake on a hot summer day, opening Christmas presents by our little tree with a toasty fire in the fireplace, watching movies on our projector while we all snuggle up on the pull-out sofa, catching turtles by the waterfall, fishing off the dock.
I've made lots of amazing memories out here with my friends, too: making margaritas in my little kitchen, kayaking with my friend out on the lake, girls weekends with bbq, music and roasting marshmallows in front of the fire pit.
It's really quiet out here. You may sleep better here than anywhere else in the world!
Bull frogs, crickets and hoot owls will lull you to sleep. Have your morning coffee out on the dock while you watch the ducks float by.
I've included many vintage touches throughout the cabin: old quilts, hand-hooked rugs, English stoneware dishes, old photographs. In fact, there is an entire wall in the kitchen which is made up of vintage paint-by-number paintings. I want my guests to feel like they're transported to an era where things were slower and people took the time to watch a sunrise or just listen to the sounds of nature. I've also made sure to include modern amenities like wi-fi, a projector, Roku and an automatic coffee maker.
Overall cabin was really nice and relaxing. Whoever does the cleaning though needs to step it up. Coffee pot was not clean and old grounds were still in the coffee maker. Tons of cleaning products next to the furnace made me nervous. Also could not get the stepping stool back into that closet because of the overwhelming amount of supplies. Very easy fix though. Some good organization and purging of non needed supplies that could be placed elsewhere could be done. Also wished the neighbors did not walk through the yard so much. Somewhat intrusive. Dog poop in back yard should be picked up before guests come. Do not let these things keep you from renting though. Like I said, easy fixes and owner is extremely responsive and provides a great place to stay.
We needed a break, for a day, moving from Texas to Ohio and we picked this cottage for a little R & R. Everything was perfect. Great decor, quiet relaxing environment, and fun movie projector. A+. Could not think of anyway to improve our stay.
Many thanks to Darcie for providing a great home to share with us! Every comfort you could need was there. It was wonderful to go out sightseeing during the day and then have a comforting home to come back to. My family especially loved swimming in and kayaking on the lake! We are a family of 6 and we fit very well into this home. Thanks Darcie!!! We look forward to coming back next year!
This place was exactly what Darcy said it was. Fun, quaint, exactly what our family needed. After doing things in the city all day, we could not wait to come back to the cabin and relax on the peaceful lake. Our kids loved the Kayaks, the wii as my son called it the "wii wii". Meeting Darcy was a nice surprise as she was in the neighborhood and stopped by to check on us. Any problems that we had she took care of right away. I would totally recommend this place to anyone & can not wait to come back in the fall so that we can use the fire place.
We wanted to spend some time together as a family before the kids head back to school. It's won't be long before they would rather spend time doing something else then spending it with mom and dad. Our twin boys are 10 and our daughter is 7. We all had an amazing time at the gem on the lake.
This property is really well stocked for a get-a-way. The kitchen comes with everything you may need. There is an amazing (looked new) grill we used often. Plenty of firewood for the fire pit. The owner gives you smore fixings - which our kiddos LoVeD. Which we shared with our next door friend too. The kayaks were a huge hit as well as the dock offering countless hours of fun. I must say having a washer and dryer for a family of 5 is a much appreciated amenity.
Thank you for sharing your gem on the lake with us!
Couldn't have imagined a better view, it was instantly relaxing and the extra personal touches they provided were very nice indeed. didn't get to do the s'mores but the kids loved the chocolate all the same =). We will definitely be going back.
The cabin is located only 10 min away from Six Flags Amusement Park. We are about 20 minutes from Purina Farms in Grey Stone, Mo.
We are 25 mins away from Kirkwood, Mo which is a really cute town that boasts one of the best kid's museums in the country, The Magic House. Kirkwood has a Mayberry feel to it with a cute downtown featuring lots of great shops and restaurants.
It's about a 35 minute drive to just about anything you'd want to do in Saint Louis: The world class Zoo is located in Forest Park which was recently voted the best city park in the U.S.! It's really gorgeous and packed with lots of fun and FREE activities!
Busch Stadium is about 40 mins away if you want to take in a Cardinals game. Scott Trade Center is in the same vicinity, as is the Peabody Opera House--both are great venues to catch a concert.
It's a very pretty, very relaxing drive from the Cabin to the city and I find it to be very enjoyable as long as you aren't trying to commute to and from the city during rush hour. Even during rush hour, it's not as bad as what some cities experience.

Although the cabin can house 6 guests, it is most ideal for a couple or for a small family. I charge a $20 per person fee for each guest after the fourth guest. Also, I ask that you not entertain guests while you are renting the cabin unless the maximum number of people including the members in your party does not exceed six people.
The cabin is in the country in Missouri. It's not the Ritz Carlton. I do try to be very accommodating and considerate of everything you might need to make your stay really enjoyable.
