About the property

Summer is booking fast!

This charming 1950's Cedar Log Cabin is the perfect spot to get away from it all and still be able to enjoy the attractions of St Louis. Beautiful drive through State Conservation Areas take you to a 20+ acre lake and this little country jewel. Darcie's little cabin has been referred to as "A Little Slice of Heaven" by many of her guests. All of the vintage treasures that you'll find throughout the cabin will help transport you to a simpler time when recreation and relaxation were a way of life.

Great for small families who want to spend quality time together and get away from the hustle and bustle of life. Take the kayaks out on the lake or just hang out on the private dock and observe nature. Fishing poles are available if you want to fish for catfish, blue gill, crappy or small-mouth bass.

Also perfect for couples looking for a quiet, romantic get-away. Very comfy queen bed with a view of the lake features soft linens and vintage quilts. You'll enjoy cooking together in the cute, vintage kitchen with the original sink and faucet. (Yes, it leaks a little, but that's part of the charm). You'll find everything you need to cook a delicious meal that you can enjoy on the picnic table overlooking the lake. Anything that you find in the stocked pantry is your's to use.

Start a fire in the big stone fireplace. Firewood and all the fixings for S'mores are provided free of charge! There is also a fire pit out by the lake. It's fun to sit by the lake around a fire and listen to the big bull frogs!

One of my favorite spots at the cabin is the front porch. You'll find two twin daybeds which are very comfortable. It's a great place to curl up with a book and look out over the lake. It is not heated or cooled, tho, so if you're using it for sleeping, you may feel a little warm in the summer or cold in the winter. On this porch you'll find a corn hole game, life jackets (mostly kids sizes), fishing poles, and extra lawn chairs.

At night, the living room can be transformed into your own private movie theater! A fabric screen can be lowered from the ceiling and the Epson Movie Mate projector will play DVDs (nice selection to choose from) or you can stream movies from the ROKU player. The Roku has a Netflix account and other types of programming for you to enjoy free of charge. There is also wifi so you can check email or browse the internet.

You'll also find lots of board games and books and magazines to read as well as Lincoln Logs and Legos for the kids. My kids have generously donated the use of their Wii as well! There is a tv that can be hooked up to either the Wii or the Roku if you want to use it instead of the movie screen. I do not have cable tv, however, because I want to encourage my kids to turn the TV OFF. (Hint: sometimes I unhook the wifi too, and "pretend" that it's not working. If you do this, though, please remember to turn it back on before you leave).

Another great convenience is the washer and dryer located in the kitchen area. There is also detergent provided.

I'm happy to allow you to bring your pet as long as it's potty trained. There is a non-refundable pet fee of $50.

About Darcie Sheehan

I'm a mom of two great kids, a realtor and a decorator who lives in Saint Louis. It has always been a dream of mine to own a lake house. When I found this sweet little log cabin, I couldn't resist buying it. I filled it with everything I love and try to spend as much time there as I can.

It has always brought me a lot of joy to share my cabin with my friends and family. About a year ago, I decided to share it beyond my circle of family and friends and offer it for rent to others. I love reading the reviews that people write in my guest book.

Darcie Sheehan purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Darcie Sheehan chose Pacific

I love this property for so many reasons, but the reason that I bought it was because it was close enough to St Louis, where I live full-time, that I could actually envision really getting to use the cabin even when my kid's schedules and clients keep me busy.

I love the location of the cabin on this little lake. It's very near the spillway, so if the lake is high enough, it creates a little waterfall that can be heard from my cabin, especially after a heavy rain.

I love that the kitchen still has the original metal cabinets and the old sink. It leaks a little but I kind of think that's part of the charm!

I grew up in a small town in Iowa. I love that my cabin is part of the rural communities of Pacific and Eureka, where people aren't too busy to chat with you.

I wanted to give my kids a little slice of the kind of life I had when I was growing up in Iowa. I have been able to give them some incredible memories because of this little cabin:

Easter Egg hunts by the lake, swimming off the dock in the middle of the lake on a hot summer day, opening Christmas presents by our little tree with a toasty fire in the fireplace, watching movies on our projector while we all snuggle up on the pull-out sofa, catching turtles by the waterfall, fishing off the dock.

I've made lots of amazing memories out here with my friends, too: making margaritas in my little kitchen, kayaking with my friend out on the lake, girls weekends with bbq, music and roasting marshmallows in front of the fire pit.

What makes this cabin unique

It's really quiet out here. You may sleep better here than anywhere else in the world!

Bull frogs, crickets and hoot owls will lull you to sleep. Have your morning coffee out on the dock while you watch the ducks float by.

I've included many vintage touches throughout the cabin: old quilts, hand-hooked rugs, English stoneware dishes, old photographs. In fact, there is an entire wall in the kitchen which is made up of vintage paint-by-number paintings. I want my guests to feel like they're transported to an era where things were slower and people took the time to watch a sunrise or just listen to the sounds of nature. I've also made sure to include modern amenities like wi-fi, a projector, Roku and an automatic coffee maker.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful time. Everything went off without a hitch. Really quiet and peaceful and the neighbors were nice as well. You may be receiving a lot of inquiries in the coming months from people attending Purina events. I posted some pics of the cabin and scenery on my Facebook page and they are a big hit!!! Hopefully we'll be back sometime in the future!

We LOVED it! It was exactly what we wanted and we’ll be back!!!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is the perfect distance from St. Louis - far enough away to feel like you’re truly getting away, yet close enough that you can be there in no time after a full work day. The bed is incredible; the movie screen amazing; we can’t wait to come back!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for such a nice review! I am so happy that you enjoyed yourselves so much! I LOVE the cabin in the winter time. It is SO cozy. I just decorated for Christmas so it is looking really festive. Let me know if you can sneak away again to experience the cabin while it's decked out for the holidays.

Charming, perfect lakeside cabin!

  • 5 of 5

Realtors like to use the term "doll house," but this sweet cabin deserves the label. Pick your adjectives: Cozy. Quaint. Retro. Homey. Whatever you want to call it, this cabin is amazing for the price and location. I was attending a dog show at Purina Farms in Gray Summit, and had my rescue French bulldog along with me. The neighbors were friendly, as were the neighborhood dogs. The amazing stone fireplace was an amazing spot to settle in after a long day. The brand new dock was inviting, although the local ducks were a bit stand-offish. I only wish I could live here in this fairy tale cottage. Thank you so much, Darcie!

This was the perfect place for my little vacation with my pups! We were in the area for a National competition and I wanted more than just a hotel room to come back to at the end of our long days. The charm of this cabin is second to none! From the moment I walked through the door I felt so comfortable and at home, as did my boys (pups). I can’t wait to come back here again!!!

Great experience at this Log Cabin!

  • 5 of 5

This took me back to a time in my youth when I attended summer camp. The cabin and setting were charming - neighbors (and dog) were friendly! The lake was close enough to town for a quick jaunt if necessary, but I spent most of my time at the cabin. There are lots of items in the cabin which can entertain adults and kids (games, water activities, firepit, etc). Darcie has done a great job with the decorating of the cabin. I look forward to future stays at this property!

Romantic Getaway Cabin

  • 5 of 5

Very nice, homey cabin. It was very clean, not spotless. We felt like we were at home. VERY romantic with all the candles! (Great for our 15th anniversary) Had a variety of pillows to choose from (soft to firm)! I loved the quilts! Kayaking on the lake was fun! Sitting around the bonfire was very nice! The Roku movie was a treat! The kitchen had everything you could need except a paring knife. I am sure Darcie will get one when she reads this. ;-) Chloe was a sweetie! The shower was powerful & I didn't run out of hot water!

Darcie even checked to see how we were doing during our stay, but we were OFFLINE (on purpose) and didn't get the message until we were home.

Only downfall was we had no cel signal. WIFI was good so we were able to communicate when needed through our apps. (Husband met me there later due to work).

All in all it was an amazing place to stay! Quiet, relaxing get away! Just what we needed!

What a find!

  • 5 of 5

I still can't believe we just happened upon this fantastic little cottage for our recent trip to Purina Farms. Only a 15 minute drive away from all our activities, this cabin was the perfect place to unwind and get away from the hustle and bustle at the show site. Very pet friendly, however the yard is not fenced, so be sure to keep track of your pups if you bring them along. Not a lot of frills, but you don't need them. Clean and comfy, right on a private lake. What more can you ask for? And Darcie was very pleasant to work with. We would definitely book again should we ever need to visit the St. Louis area again!

The cabin is located only 10 min away from Six Flags Amusement Park. We are about 20 minutes from Purina Farms in Grey Stone, Mo.

We are 25 mins away from Kirkwood, Mo which is a really cute town that boasts one of the best kid's museums in the country, The Magic House. Kirkwood has a Mayberry feel to it with a cute downtown featuring lots of great shops and restaurants.

It's about a 35 minute drive to just about anything you'd want to do in Saint Louis: The world class Zoo is located in Forest Park which was recently voted the best city park in the U.S.! It's really gorgeous and packed with lots of fun and FREE activities!

Busch Stadium is about 40 mins away if you want to take in a Cardinals game. Scott Trade Center is in the same vicinity, as is the Peabody Opera House--both are great venues to catch a concert.

It's a very pretty, very relaxing drive from the Cabin to the city and I find it to be very enjoyable as long as you aren't trying to commute to and from the city during rush hour. Even during rush hour, it's not as bad as what some cities experience.

Although the cabin can house 6 guests, it is most ideal for a couple or for a small family. I charge a $20 per person fee for each guest after the fourth guest. Also, I ask that you not entertain guests while you are renting the cabin unless the maximum number of people including the members in your party does not exceed six people.
The cabin is in the country in Missouri. It's not the Ritz Carlton. I do try to be very accommodating and considerate of everything you might need to make your stay really enjoyable.
