About this property

West-facing Hay Lake cottage with access to Algonquin Park

This is a glorious cottage property facing west onto Lower Hay Lake. Literally at the "end of the road" the property has 200 ft frontage and is surrounded by crown land to the west, north and east. There are fantastic sunsets from the deck and the dock.

The main cottage has been completely rebuilt over the past decade and features an open concept living and dining room, a recently installed new kitchen and a screened-in porch large enough for comfortable chairs as well as a second dining area. There are two bedrooms (queen beds) one with its own deck and views over the lake. The new bathroom has a good-sized shower, as well as a washing machine and dryer.

There is a large bunky on the property that sleeps two in single bed. There is also a table/desk and desk chair for remote work.

The cottage faces west offering lovely views over the lake and glorious sunsets from seating on the outdoor deck, the garden (where the fire pit is located) or from the screened-in porch. We have pure drinking water from our own well. Our kitchen includes a well-stocked pantry with all the cooking basics.

A canoe, two kayaks with life jackets and safety buckets are all included.

Lower Hay Lake is a very large and connects to Hay and Drizzle Lakes, with 17 km of cumulative shoreline to explore. It is under-developed with only 70 cottages on the entire system. Very quiet with no jet skis! The lake is highly prized by fishermen for lake trout, bass and pickerel. From the cottage you can paddle/portage into Algonquin Park, or drive to the Park's East Gate in 20 minutes. Whitney is only 15 minutes by car and has groceries, LCBO, gas station and pharmacy.

A new 14 ft fishing boat with 9.9 hp motor is available for an additional charge of $200 per week.

Very peaceful and relaxing place
One of our best cottage stays! We loved everything about that place - the location, interior design (super cozy and inviting), the deck and the view, the lake itself, and close proximity to Algonquin Park and its hiking trails. It's a perfect place to relax and unwind. Thank you Jenny! Highly recommended!!

Fall Holiday at Hay Lake
It's a picture perfect spot exactly like the pictures shown. The beautifully renovated cottage (except the bathroom/shower addition) is in a perfect setting by the lake. It's surrounded by birch, white pine and maple trees; perfect for enjoying the fall colours in October! All we heard was quiet and on some days the rustling of the wind in the trees and the call of a loon in the evening. The steps down to the lake are steep but the cottage is very beautiful and relaxing. The daily walks up the driveway and along Hay Lake Road were good exercise! The woodstove kept us very comfortable and warm. A clean, well kept cottage perfect for relaxing by the lake! Check in was welcoming and straight forward. Jenny and John are graceful hosts and we had a wonderful week at Elders Cottage. Rita and Luciano, October 3 to 10, 2020

Perfect for peaceful R&R. A true cottage experience, perfect for a couple or a family.
If you are looking for peace and tranquility, then this real cottage is the choice. No Muskoka Madness here, yet opportunities for activities are plentiful. Hiking, canoeing, boating, fishing, swimming, sunsets, Algonquin Park, it’s all here! Jenny and John have gone to great lengths to provide an experience worthy of repeating. Absolutely everything you need is here, utensils, spices, pots, bowls. If you forgot something, it’s probably here. And clearly, the cottage and property are being improved each year. Our experience was truly better than we had hoped, and we will definitely be returning! Thank you Jenny and John for making our 30th anniversary unforgettable!

We bought this property in 2014 and are gradually fixing it up. We have another property on the lake and just love the peace and quiet up there. So will you!
