Super location: 2 bedrooms, 2 loos, sleeps 4. Courtyard/Patio. Glorious accommod

This apartment is the converted servant's quarters of a gentleman's residence in the heart of one of Lakeland's prettiest villages. It offers a chance to forget the car, or use as a base to discover all the Lake District has to offer - Lake Windermere is a 15min drive away. The flat is not overlooked, and the main bedroom overlooks Cavendish St, just along from the famous arch, yet offering peace and quiet as we're at the top of the house, and above street noise. You can sit on the windowseat and just watch the world go by! Our living room has fab views, over to the smallest National Hunt racecourse in Britain. Eat at the dining table inside, and observe the world around you as you gaze over the rooftops, and down onto our courtyard. This stone walled yard is for your exclusive use, and has a table and dining chairs for al fresco dining, a bench seat, and there are cushions and more chairs in our stone store - again for your exclusive use. So if you fancy soaking up the sunshine after a day's walking; a read with a glass of wine, then this is the perfect spot. The en suite master bedroom with kingsize bed looks out towards the Priory. Just off the village square, and adjoining the famous arch, the apartment is seconds away from great pubs, just along the lane from the UK's top restaurant, two Michelin starred L'Enclume, and an array of village shops. You can BBQ in the courtyard - the property's enclosed English Garden patio is your's alone to enjoy. Yards away is the racecourse and footpaths over the Fell are just beyond. The apartment retains bags of character, with beamed ceilings (and walls and floors!),. It's beautifully kept, and has free WiFi; flat screen TVs, DVD, PS2 in bedroom two; washer/dryer; freezer etc. Outside in the yard, as mentioned, is our store house to accommodate your bikes/outdoor paraphernalia. Well behaved dogs welcome by arrangement.

Other bits you'd like to know: We've had lovely feedback about our place, and lots of repeat bookings. It's our second home, and kept in beautiful condition. Some of guests have come for lots of long weekends, others have had the place for six weeks at a time - we're really flexible on what we offer.

It's warmed by storage heaters. Full instructions will be left for you on how to control the temperature. There's also a log stove effect fire in the living room, and heaters in the bathrooms.

Full instructions on how to work everything, and where to find things, will be waiting for you. DVDs; board games, PS2games, cards, books, guide books and OSmaps are all left for your perusal.

And you'll find extra touches throughout the flat, to make your time at our place go smoothly and leave you wanting to come back again - hopefully !

About Alison

Owned by a carpenter and a journalist - so brilliantly maintained, and very close to pubs!!! Alan and Alison grew up on the Fylde Coast, moved toward Manchester owing to work commitments, but have forever loved the Lake District. Travelled the world extensively, including abseiling in Oz's Blue Mountains; road tripping across various bits of the USA; visiting various bits of Asia; cruising the Caribbean... and boating on the Thames. But both still vote the Lakes as their favourite place on the planet!

Why Alison chose Lakes Peninsula

Unique property in an unrivalled position - right in the centre of the village but not overlooked, and with a private courtyard to enjoy peace and quiet in the sunshine if the pubs and paths ever get too much! Since the purchase in 2006, the entire property has been reroofed - an enormous project overseen by Alan, who continues to keep the place in tip top condition, with regular refurbishment and upgrades.

I thought parking might have been an issue as the village is small and popular, but we found .a space in the street every time. Cartmel is a really nice village with some good pubs and shops. Lovely cosy, clean accommodation right in the centre of Cartmel. Communication with the owner excellent before and during our stay. Would definitely recommend this accommodation and would stay there again.

great base to explore a great area

the property is situated in a very central location in Cartmel. the village is very quaint, but has quite a busy feel to it. the apartment was well equipped, well furnished and very comfortable. the instructions provided were all very clear and Alison has created a folder and a bookshelf full of helpful advice for the area and things to do.

we tried all the local pubs and they were all great. our favourite was the Kings Arms. all the pubs served food. we ate at the Cavendish Arms and although the food was good the front of house staff service was very poor! i would not recommend this place as a good place to eat. we were lucky enough to be in the village at the time of the food market. the produce was wonderful and the sellers were all very helpful about explaining more about what they were selling. we enjoyed a great meal from what we bought. we did a couple of walks around the area and drove to Kendal for a look. i have already recommended both Alison's apartment and the village of Cartmel to friends.

Perfect place

We spent 3 nights in this wonderful flat and enjoyed every second!

It's in a perfect location, right in the heart of a beautiful village, so peaceful with beautiful views from the lounge, great walks, lovely places to eat and drink! The flat is really comfortable and cosy and has everything you need for a great stay.

We just want to stay longer next time!

Lovely Apartment

A very comfortable and well appointed apartment. The second floor location means that it get lots of light with great views over the roof tops from the lounge/diner. There are 4 pubs that all serve food within easy walking distance but our favourite was the one opposite. The main bedroom looks out on it but even on a Saturday night it wasn't too noisy.

Alison provides a selection of guide books and recommendations for the local area: we did 3 walks and 2 cycle rides. There is even a lockable shed for storing your bikes. So good we hardly used the car all week.

Lovely stay in a great appartment

The apartment had everything we wanted for our short break. We stayed in Cartmel basically beacuse of the great restaurants on our doorstep and its proximity to Lkae Windermere which is a 15 min drive away.

The aprtment was well equipped with good size bedroom and living area. Alison the owner is great on communications and really friendly.

Would definitely stay here again when we are next thinking of visiting the lakes.

We're right in the village centre, not stuck out in one of the neighbouring hamlets. Forget your car: walk the Fells, reach the coast or potter through the cobbled streets straight from the flat. Holker Hall, with its stunning grounds, is walkable too. Windermere's shore and all the Lakes have to offer is a 15min drive away. We offer the perfect base to explore. In 2016 Cartmel will offer nine days racing, with our living room window offering views over the rooftops, onto the course. Local attractions include Grizedale forest, the homes of Beatrix Potter, Wordsworth, and Ruskin. Spectacular scenery is yours for the walking, or just enjoy looking at it from our windows. You can't fail to enjoy staying in one of England's prettiest villages. The genteel seaside town of Grange is 3miles away. And the three race meetings in Cartmel each year offer the opportunity to see the village at its daftest - book early as the entire place gets busy during these great festivals. But rest assured, that while in the hub of the village, you'll get peace and quiet, with your own private courtyard to sit in too. Here you can BBQ, eat al fresco at the table, or pull out a deck chair from our shed and enjoy the sunshine. Our flat is not overlooked, as we're at the top of the house. It offers great views from the living room. Sit and eat at the table - forget the TV, and watch the world go by. Or enjoy the beautiful air, and sit in our courtyard - it's our's exclusively, as is the store/shed which is perfect for storing all your outdoor paraphenalia ... muddy boots, bikes, whatever!

Other Activities: Cartmel Races; Segway; Archery etc (Cartmel segway appears at the top of TripAdvisors Things to Do in the area); Holker Hall. Everything the Lake District has to offer. Fellfoot park, with sailing and boathire; Lakeside - acquarium, steamers up the Lake; steam railway; Lakeland motor museum.

We work on a 10am departure, 3pm arrival.
We're very flexible over what you book, but please don't be offended when we add a PREMIUM to short breaks in peak season, for RACE WEEKENDS, or for LAST MINUTE bookings.
If a peak holiday period includes a race weekend, and the race period is already booked, but you fancy the rest of the week, please do inquire, as the cost could be significantly lower.
Please note, if you book for 2 people, then want to increase that to 3 or 4, please inform us, as this necessitates the extra bed being made up; which will incur a charge.

20% deposit to reserve, at time of booking. Balance payable 6weeks prior to stay. Refundable bond of £100-£200 (dependent on season) due just prior to stay, returned straight after. Payment via online banking preferred, but cheques accepted.

  • Two bathrooms, with non-slip tiles to en suite which has loo, basin, and wall cabinet; and wood laminate to the family bathroom. The latter has a shower enclosure, but no bath. The shower though is fantastic, and as powerful as you like! Heated towel rails are in both bathrooms, plus an additional wall heater in the family one. There's an airing cupboard and plenty of space for your girly items in the main bathroom. The washer/dryer is also located in the family bathroom, but within a fitted cupboard, and all very tastefully done!! We do ask that you bring your own bathroom towels - all other linen provided.

  • The spacious master bedroom with kingsize bed has a very romantic atmosphere with its sloping ceilings. It has a washbasin and loo in its en suite bathroom. Has LCD TV with DVD player, DAB radio, and Ipod dock, double wardrobe, chest of drawers, bedside cabinets, and a window seat looking out over the rooftops towards the Priory, and just along to the archway in the village square. The second bedroom has a double bed; velux window, single wardrobe and chest. There's an LCD TV, and PS2 in this room as we use it for the kids and they enjoy having their own space! Both are newly decorated, with bedlinen, and all co-ordinated decoration. We do ask that you bring you own bathroom towels - all other linen provided.

This is in effect, a second floor flat with an exterior staircase so is unsuitable for the infirm or the very young. For this reason, and because of the sash windows in the main bedroom, we are unable to accommodate children under 7yrs. It's very romantic so ideal for a relaxing getaway, and great for having a couple of friends to come over for part of your stay - we've had great reports from people who've done this! Please note that this is our holiday home too, so it's really well looked after. Our stairs up to the flat go from our own sizeable very pretty courtyard, with raised beds and planters. We have a shed which can store any outdoor paraphernalia you might wish to bring: bikes, climbing gear etc, and while the patio is ours alone, please note that three other privately owned flats have their entries from a shared alleyway just below our courtyard.
