Cute CDA cottage...

  • 3 of 5

The house was very cute, nicely decorated, and a great location. Walking distance from everything. We mostly enjoyed our stay but had a few big disappointments.

First, the floors were not clean and were quite dirty. The carpet had not been vacuumed. I found the vacuumed and first had to take the canister apart to empty. It was so packed full and the hepa filter completely clogged that I had to use rubber gloves and tongs to unpack the canister. I doubt the vacuum could have picked anything up with how clogged it was. It was obvious that the cleaning crew had not bothered to empty the vacuum in a long time. I vacuumed and completely filled the canister with dirt, dog hair, small screws, and a pair of earrings, and that was only on the first pass. I vacuumed 2 times and filled the canister full each time. The kitchen and bathroom floors were sticky. I could not find a broom, so I bought a mop and a broom so I could clean the floors. The mop that was there was so dirty I would not use it. Needless to say I was VERY disappointed that this is what a $150 cleaning fee got us!!

The other issue we had was that the mattress in the master bedroom was surely the most uncomfortable bed we have ever slept on. The head is lower than your feet and there is a HUGE sag in the middle!! The mattress really needs to be replaced. The bedding and pillows were very nice and quite high quality though and the bedroom looked so nicely decorated with lots and lots of storage.

The last issue was with the toilet. It ran non-stop very loudly. You could giggle the handle and it would stop running sometimes. The guts of the toilet need to be replaced.

These things really detracted from our stay and we were really glad to go home after days. Sorry I could not rate higher, I would have liked to but these are big issues. I had to wait a bit before I wrote the review because we were quite upset that the house was not cleaner and the bed was so uncomfortable. I truly hope you address these issues for future guests.

Owner's Response: Heather- I am not sure where you stayed but this is not a description of my house. There is no possible way the floors were as you described. The mop is practically new and present in the house. The cleaning fee we charge and that you were charged was $75, not $150. The mattresses both bedrooms are barely one year old and were not inexpensive. I slept on the mattress in the master bedroom two nights ago, there is absolutely no sag in the middle, nor is the head lower than the feet. I'm truly boggled how you could write a review like this; we've never had a review like this. As for the running toilet, how did it not cross your mind to call us about a mechanical issue with the house, not to mention if you were experiencing housekeeping issues- especially to the extent you described. We cannot be expected to address and issue and take care of our guests if we aren't given an opportunity to do so. Anytime we have had an issue, which has been rare, we immediately address it. A phone call would have solved any issues you may have experienced. Perhaps you didn't call because these issues were fabricated in order to minimize the damage done to our $500 coffee table which was noted after your stay.

We just loved this cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We were in Coeur d'Alene for the Ironman and wanted a place that was walkable to the lake, super clean, and pet friendly. From the moment I made my first inquiry about the cottage, I knew I was going to be renting a place from terrific people. Karey was amazing to deal with, she was very responsive, and the cottage had everything we needed. The cottage was ready by the specified check in time, instructions were easy to follow, and the place was equipped as described on the website. They had even left us dog treats, fresh water for the dogs, and coffee!

I would definitely recommend Karey and Neal's cottage if you are looking to rent a place that is walkable to downtown, close to bike trails, and close to restaurants and attractions.

Great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

Thanks to thoughtful hosts who care about the quality of their guests' stay as well as their property, we enjoyed this affordable, comfortable and very clean vacation cottage. Easy walk to downtown CDA, antique shops on 4th, Safeway and eateries. Definite thumbs up recommendation to others who visit CDA.

Perfect cottage for a long weekend!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time in CDA and really enjoyed this cottage. It is convientently located, just blocks from downtown, a 10 min walk to the lake/public beach and Tubb's Hill. There are numerous great restaurants very close (Crafted, Java) and other awesome ones a short drive away (The Garnet, Michael B's). We stayed during a very hot time of the year, but found the cottage stayed cool if we kept the windows open at night and then closed the Windows and blinds during the day. We did not have a need for the AC but did use fans to help circulate the cool night air throughout.

We were happy to find many of the essentials present at the cottage from a hair dryer and shampoo/conditioner to plastic bags and coffee. The beds and bedding were nice and comfy and the towels were well stocked. The main bedroom is a good size with a nice sized closet and built-in dresser for clothing/luggage storage. The second bedroom is very small and has a very small closet for your belongings. We used the front entry/office area to help with the space concern. It was not an issue for us, but if you have children, the main bedroom would have room for a Pack-n-play or space for a child to sleep on the floor but the second bedroom would not accommodate either scenarios.

We did not have a moment of wishing there was something else available. The neighborhood overall was relatively quiet-- one night there was live music downtown which was faintly heard but otherwise normal traffic and noise for a side street.

Overall, we were very pleased with our stay and if we return to CDA would not hesitate to stay again!

This place was great! I stayed for approx. 3 weeks, the house was comfortable and homey. The only issue I had was noticing upon arrival several dirty dishes in the cupboards. Given the prior "tenants" are responsible for washing the dishes before they go this wasn't something I got too upset about. I simply took everything I'd be using and washed it. There was plenty of extra linens, a fully stocked kitchen and space for storage if needed (for a longer stay). Gaining access and checking out were both seamless processes, Neal and Karey were easy to work with and helpful when needed. I would rent here again...
