Chrissy, Elyse and I live in Asheville and love the natural beauty, outdoor activities, culture and people of Western North Carolina. As a special education teacher and professional counselor with modest incomes we needed an alternative way to invest our time, talent, and resources. Retreat at Miller Cove reflects our appreciation for nature, simplicity and solitude.
Ed and Chrissy Kizer purchased this cabin in 2014
We knew the minute we arrived at the property it was ideal for our vision of an investment property / vacation rental home and personal getaway. Pictures just don't do it justice. We feel the solitude it offers makes it ideal for those wanting to get away to just relax or to deepen their spiritual life. To that end, we are planning to continue to develop the property as a spiritual retreat adding outdoor spaces for yoga and meditation, converting the shed to a practice studio and adding a wood fired hot tub.
It's almost impossible not to feel a great sense of solitude and being "away from it all" at Miller Cove. It's very rare to hear or see anyone on the neighboring properties and the road in, although it may be intimidating to some, only enhances the feeling of being further out in nature. If natural beauty and privacy are what you seek, you won't be disappointed!
This was perfect for my husband and I who wanted to get away from everything for a few days. We saw Biltmore and did some hiking. There are tons of trails but most lead up. The cabin is secluded for sure. We saw no one in march. The drive up is definitely up. With a sharp turn that are truck couldn't make in one move. But it was all manageable. We had all the comforts we expected from a cabin in the woods. Note if you are bringing groceries with you, there is no microwave but there is a blender, coffeemaker and everything else you need. Plenty of firewood. Ingles grocery is close by and a redbox 2 minutes down the road from ingles. There is a YMCA within 15 minutes if needed. We didn't try the Japanese soaking tub. Save for a few harmless stink bugs the place was very clean and cozy. There is a couch and a futon in the open and one bedroom with a bed. The steps from the drive to the house would be navigable by anyone except a wheelchair. I would definitely recommend this place if you want a cabin in the woods. We enjoyed our stay.
Ed and Chrissy added so many thoughtful details to make this charming cabin so welcoming. Great retreat getaway so peaceful.
We had a great time at the retreat at Miller's Cove. It's secluded and beautiful, but not too far away so finding a relatively close nice restaurant is easy. I highly recommend this place!
We loved the secluded cabin. There are homes around the cabin, but you can't see them and only rarely hear another car coming or going. I enjoyed my coffee in the mornings on the porch listening to the nearby creek. The Japanese soaking tub was nice too. The tub took an initial three hours to heat, so patience is needed, but after the first heating it maintained the heat and was quick to warm up to temperature. Plenty of firewood was provided. The road to the cabin wasn't as bad as expected. We took my husband's SUV, but believe a mid-sized car would make it fine. My compact car would have scrapped in the creeks as it sits so low to the ground. There is one hairpin curve up up by the cabin that you have drive aggressively to make the corner without backing up. If you have Verizon, then you shouldn't have issues with service. We loved this cabin and enjoyed our stay. Would love to come back and stay again!
And what a retreat it was. Drove from New York and really didn't know what to expect. The pictures didn't do justice to the property. What you couldn't see in the pictures was the peaceful, quiet, and the sound of a babbling brook. All this made for a romantic hide-away. We hiked the road up the mountain and down the road to the stream. We took someone's advice and walked barefoot in the stream that crossed the road. The evenings were spent in front of the fire pit, we forgot the marsh mellows. We didn't use the hot tub (being from New York if it doesn't have an on-off switch I'm lost). Will definitely rent this beautiful hide away again. PS the road and driveway was not as difficult as I thought, just don't drive a sports car to the property. The outdoor shower was refreshing and coffee in the morning on the rocking chairs just added to the secluded retreat. Thank you Ed and Cindy. What a wonderful place
We had a great time staying here on a long weekend to the Asheville area. It's secluded and peaceful, and the owners did a great job making it feel like the mountain retreat it is. So many little thoughtful details were supplied. We will definitely be back!
