This place is in the perfect location to experience the best of what the gulf coast of Florida has to offer. The house is located on a deep water canal just off the Steinhatchee River offering excellent opportunities for freshwater paddling, fishing and wildlife observation. We routinely see Bald Eagles, manatees, alligators, river otters, and a wide variety of bird life. Launch your kayak or canoe at Steinhatchee Falls just a few miles upstream on the river and enjoy a ride through some of the most amazing old Florida riverine habitat you can imagine. Bream and bass are common and fun fishing for both kids and adults.
Best of all the Gulf of Mexico and direct access to salt water fishing and scallops is only a short picturesque boat ride from our canal. You can put your boat in and tie up to the floating dock for easy deep water access to some of the best saltwater fishing on the Gulf coast. If you don’t have your own boat there are two well-equipped marinas just downstream that offer kayak and power boat rentals. When you come back from a day on the water, the fish cleaning station provides a convenient and easy way to prepare your catch for dinner.
The house has been completely remodeled on the inside including the kitchen, bath, and bedrooms. There are two bedrooms with double beds and nice foldout couch for a total sleeping capacity of 6 people. All bedding and linens are included. A fully equipped kitchen and dinner area for 6 people makes it enjoyable to cook up your catch and spent more time on the river. A huge porch on the back of the house faces the canal and offers a great view. The large propane grill is available on the porch for cooking up your fresh catch. Plan on spending some relaxing time out on the porch. Be sure to check out the “party lights” that provide a festive setting in the back yard in the evening.
Easy access to the house 1714 King Street is provided from Hwy 51; the main road leading into Steinhatchee from Hwy 98.

About Doug Baughman
This property is owned by John Cooler and Doug Baughman. We were college room mates at the University of South Carolina and have been fishing together for more that 30 years! We bought this place to have access to the great freshwater and coastal fishing opportunities in the Big Bend area. While we appreciate the fishing and scalloping our wife's prefer the lazy cruises on the river and the snorkeling for scallops in the summer. We hope that you enjoy this cozy cabin on the water as much as our families do!

Great Cottage,Great Location,Friendly Cozy
Spent a week here. Owner was great to deal with,Cottage is cute and clean. Can not find a complaint except for my inability to caught fish. Even friendly neighbors who offer any help or advise. Still didn't help my fishing. Would go back in an instant. Chuck from Ma
Nice comfy place in a quaint little fishing town. Clean as a pin, kitchen well stocked, and Doug is an awesome, down-to-earth, helpful owner. Visitors need to plan for a getaway from electronics - no television, Wifi, internet, etc. For some, no cell service. Our AT&T service worked fine but someone in our party had T-Mobile, which had no reception.
Convenient, quiet get away.
Great little house! Has everything you need including a deep water canal for your boat. Nice floating dock and fish cleaning shed right behind the house. We had a great time fishing and we would definitely rent again the next we're looking for a spot in Steinhatchee. Highly recommend the place.
Was a great stay!!!
Great little house for very close friends!
Second stay this year and are looking forward to renting again next year. This little charmer is just what we needed for our scalloping weekends away. Evenings on the back porch were restful and fun. All is fine in the house since it has been renovated this year. Doug thanks for working with us on the small points of our stays, we liked your flexibility on use and dates. Keep up the good work and we will see you next year.
Nice house on a quiet street
We had a wonderful stay in this house! With the very professional looking renovation done during the spring this place will be our go to cabin on the water for scalloping for as long as we frequent the area. This place is new inside and the back porch is a trip back to old Florida with the tin roof and big chairs and the huge plank table of native pine. A cool little place. I rate this place a 9 out of 10 for what we look for in the area. I will be checking about reservations next year, our whole party is very happy with this place. Doug, thanks for such a nice place to stay.
