A Cozy Family Cabin On The Water

Bedrooms 2
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

2 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 6

This place is in the perfect location to experience the best of what the gulf coast of Florida has to offer. The house is located on a deep water canal just off the Steinhatchee River offering excellent opportunities for freshwater paddling, fishing and wildlife observation. We routinely see Bald Eagles, manatees, alligators, river otters, and a wide variety of bird life. Launch your kayak or canoe at Steinhatchee Falls just a few miles upstream on the river and enjoy a ride through some of the most amazing old Florida riverine habitat you can imagine. Bream and bass are common and fun fishing for both kids and adults.

Best of all the Gulf of Mexico and direct access to salt water fishing and scallops is only a short picturesque boat ride from our canal. You can put your boat in and tie up to the floating dock for easy deep water access to some of the best saltwater fishing on the Gulf coast. If you don’t have your own boat there are two well-equipped marinas just downstream that offer kayak and power boat rentals. When you come back from a day on the water, the fish cleaning station provides a convenient and easy way to prepare your catch for dinner.

The house has been completely remodeled on the inside including the kitchen, bath, and bedrooms. There are two bedrooms with double beds and nice foldout couch for a total sleeping capacity of 6 people. All bedding and linens are included. A fully equipped kitchen and dinner area for 6 people makes it enjoyable to cook up your catch and spent more time on the river. A huge porch on the back of the house faces the canal and offers a great view. The large propane grill is available on the porch for cooking up your fresh catch. Plan on spending some relaxing time out on the porch. Be sure to check out the “party lights” that provide a festive setting in the back yard in the evening.

Easy access to the house 1714 King Street is provided from Hwy 51; the main road leading into Steinhatchee from Hwy 98.

Great little house for very close friends!

  • 5 of 5

Second stay this year and are looking forward to renting again next year. This little charmer is just what we needed for our scalloping weekends away. Evenings on the back porch were restful and fun. All is fine in the house since it has been renovated this year. Doug thanks for working with us on the small points of our stays, we liked your flexibility on use and dates. Keep up the good work and we will see you next year.

Nice house on a quiet street

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay in this house! With the very professional looking renovation done during the spring this place will be our go to cabin on the water for scalloping for as long as we frequent the area. This place is new inside and the back porch is a trip back to old Florida with the tin roof and big chairs and the huge plank table of native pine. A cool little place. I rate this place a 9 out of 10 for what we look for in the area. I will be checking about reservations next year, our whole party is very happy with this place. Doug, thanks for such a nice place to stay.

Great little house!!

  • 5 of 5

This little house is a wonderful find. Is beautiful on the inside and has plenty of room. A great back porch and a small yard. Just a real nice place all around. The owner is great to work with also. We stayed for a week and plan on returning! I recommend this place to anyone!

Weekend scalloping with friends

  • 5 of 5

This place was great. Starting with, it's newly renovated, very clean and in a great location. Ignore the comment saying the window unit didn't work well. Take it from two menopausal women in the heat and humidity of the summer, it was more than cool enough. We utilized the boat dock for our boat and the cleaning shack for cleaning scallops. It was a short ride down the river to wide open ocean. Short was about 40 mins, which may seem long to some, but not during scalloping high season and people were waiting 1 to 1 1/2 hrs to get their boats in the water at the marinas. This house is in a good location, within a mile or so of restaurants, marinas and everything else Steinhatchee. We enjoyed our stay and will stay again if ever back in the area.

Owner great to work with but property was disappointing

  • 2 of 5

We stayed here 2 nights for a scalloping trip in August 2016. Upon arrival, the A/C was not on and the house was hot walking in. Looking around we noticed there was no central A/C system, only one wall unit in the living room to cool the entire house. August in Florida is unbearable , so this was a disappointing feature right away. We wished we had known ahead of time that there was not central air available. After about an hour and a half the wall unit cooled the house down a little, but not at a temperature that we are most comfortable at. We were looking forward to spending a lot of time hanging out on the porch in the evening, but another disappointment was the porch is not screened in. In the photos it looks like it is. So porch time meant fighting off mosquitos and no-see-ums. Because the wall unit was in the living room we could not close our bedroom doors at night which was inconvenient because we were sharing the house with another couple. The second night the A/C stopped working all together. I called the owner and he was very apologetic and made every attempt to try and get a repairman out there, however, being late in the day on a Sunday...it was a no go. So we endured the night with no A/C. The owner gave us a credit for that night without hesitation, which we were very grateful. The owner was kind and easy to get ahold of but we would not stay here again unless it had central A/C and a screened in porch.
