A lovely apartment in a great location
The apartment looks just like the photo. The property looked newly built, very clean and well maintained. Tastfully decorated with good amenities. It was quiet and peaceful, a truly comfortable stay. Centrally located and walking distance to Devon House! The Manager was very welcoming, explained everything really well. Security was good. I would highly recommend this property to family and friends.
A truly delightful surprise
Hidden in the middle of New Kingston, a stone's throw away from local places of interest, shopping malls and bus station my husband and I booked this lovely apartment managed by Mr Sheldon James of the Choose To Be Happy organisation.
The apartment is bright with lots of natural light, tastefully decorated, clean, well maintained, spacious and comfortable. It has one bedroom, a lounge with dining area and a fully equipped and functioning kitchen. A bathroom, walk in closet and sizeable balcony with built in laundry facilities. There is 24 hours security and the staff are pleasant and helpful.
The only comments we have are: additional pillows would be nice. Also in the bathroom there are signs of mould. This only stands out because the rest of the apartment is immaculate.
Mr James signs correspondence "your SuperHost" this title is actually true. He answered every query we had and was on hand if we needed anything. His welcoming, pleasant and professional manner was appreciated and made our stay absolutely enjoyable. For this we thank him.
We will be making another booking for 2018 and have no hesitation in recommending Mr James and the Choose To Be Happy organisation to colleagues, friends and family visiting Kingston.
A Must Stay Property!
My husband and I stayed here for 2 weeks and it was truly amazing! Our host, Sheldon met us at the cottage, which is on a gated property, and showed us around and explained how everything worked. The place was immaculate and everything that you need is there, including salt, pepper and sugar in the cupboard for that first morning breakfast. He even provided a welcome basket with snacks and tea, which was much appreciated. We were there when the country had ad water shortage, and while we were not particularly affected, Sheldon did check on us to ensure that we were comfortable.
The air conditioner in the bedroom and a ceiling fan in the living room were a personal plus for me as well as having a full washing machine. My husband loved having the mangoes off the trees on the property for breakfast and there was nothing like eating on one of the two patios!
The area is wonderful and I felt extremely safe there. There was one night when there was a power outage in the area, but we had no need to fret as Sheldon had thought about that too and had provided candles and matches.
As a Professor in the hospitality field, I have no choice but to give Sheldon and Niagara an A+. We will be back and I encourage you to do the same. Stop searching, you have found the right place to be when in Kingston.
Private Cottage in exclusive residential area
This secure, self contained one bedroom cottage is located close to the Liguanea centre with lots of food and shopping options. Very cosy living and dining area with a lovely view to the lush backyard of the property. Our host was very attentive and ensured that all was well, and we were comfortable on a daily basis; a welcome snack basket was nice treat! Very large air conditioned bedroom with all bedroom and bathroom linens and towels supplied as well as laundry and cooking facilities. We will definitely stay here again!

Gardens, Mansions & Museums
THE ROYAL or HOPE BOTANICAL GARDENS
Across the road from Mona lies Hope Gardens, as it is still referred to by Jamaicans, originally part of the Hope Estate which was owned and run by Richard Hope, a Commander in the British army. It was Britain’s reward to him for helping them wrest control of Jamaica from the Spanish. The original estate was a vast tract of land stretching from Newcastle in the Blue Mountains down to the coast, and was formerly a sugar estate when sugar was ‘king’ of the British economy. However, in late 1881, 200 acres were purchased by the Government of Jamaica to establish an experimental garden for growing species foreign to the island such as coffee and pineapple. It was this acreage that became Hope Gardens, the largest botanical garden in the Caribbean.
In 1953, Queen Elizabeth II visited Jamaica and toured the Gardens. Following this visit, the Queen gave her permission for the name to be officially changed to “The Royal Botanical Gardens, Hope”. The Gardens are now maintained by the Ministry of Agriculture’s Public Gardens Division, and have undergone major restoration programs since 1996, following the devastating effects of a series of hurricanes and tropical storms.
Hope Botanical Gardens: Open daily 8:30a.m. to 6:30p.m.
Hope Zoo: (next to the Botanical Gardens): Open daily: 10:00a.m. to 5:00p.m.
One of Jamaica’s most celebrated historical landmarks, the Devon House mansion was the architectural dream of Jamaica’s first black millionaire, George Stiebel. Stiebel was among three wealthy Jamaicans who constructed homes, during the late 19th century, at the juncture of Trafalgar Road and Hope Road which, fittingly, became known as Millionaires Corner. Stiebel’s legacy lives on in the beautifully maintained house, which was declared a national monument in 1990 by the Jamaica National Heritage Trust.
At the back of the house is a quadrangle which is worth investigating. A restaurant featuring some of the most delightful meals occupies the back verandah. There is also a bakery, and an ‘I Scream’ shop which is always packed in the summer, plus a variety of other shops selling everything from up market crafts and clothing to handmade oils, wines and authentic Blue Mountain coffee.
THE BOB MARLEY MUSEUM
This former home of the international icon, Robert Nesta Marley, is located at 56 Hope Road, Kingston 6, and was converted into a museum six years after his death in 1981. It is home to the Tuff Gong record label which was founded by The Wailers in 1970. Also on the property is an 80-seat theatre and shops selling African arts and crafts, T-shirts, posters, CDs, herbs and spices. Vegetarian meals are offered at the Queen of Sheba restaurant.
To many of the Rastafarian staff, the site is a shrine and they appreciate visitors who respect it as such. Cameras and head/earphones are not allowed neither are infants or toddlers (0-3 years). For opening hours and information about tours or anything else, give them a call at 876- 927-9152. If calling from overseas dial 1-876 followed by the phone number.
