The hundred acre wood comes to life on this secluded, historic family estate. Lose yourself in a woodland paradise, replete with world class trout streams, hiking, and breath-taking views of the Catskill Park. Or, take in a day of antiquing and then relax and enjoy cocktails by the pond.
Your home to rent is a spacious 2 BR, 2 bath private house on a trout pond in the heart of the Catskill Mtns.
There are charming hamlets to explore nearby, from Phoenicia to the famous Woodstock, NY, and excellent restaurants abound. Nearby attractions include the Phoenicia Festival of the Voice and the Belleayre Music Series in summer and, in wintertime, skiing at Belleayre, Hunter, Windham or Plattekill.
For the fly-fishing aficionado, the property was our great-great grandfather's trout hatchery, and the remains of the spring-fed hatchery system, complete with stone-lined sluiceways and keystone bridges still beg to be discovered. Our stream feeds into the Esopus Creek, a world-renowned fly-fishing paradise.
Also enjoy spectacular views from nearby hikes. Shown in the photos are views from the hike to Giant Ledge, the highest waterfall in the Catskills at Kaaterskill Falls, as well as a view of the Ashokan Reservoir, which offers scenic paths to walk, run or bike.
I enjoy traveling, from roughing it in the wild to luxury pampering, and try to provide a balance of both world to my guests. Entrepreneurs, fly-fishing aficionados, hikers, explorers, and people who just want to get away from it all to where the only sounds are the songbirds during the day and the frogs or katydids at night, are all welcome to visit!
Calandra Cruickshank purchased this house in 2007
I was incredibly fortunate to be able to bring Hatchery Hollow back into my family in 2007. My great-great grandfather came to the US in 1800's. He purchased this property in large part because of the natural springs that bubble up throughout, making it the perfect spot for him to build his gentleman's trout hatchery. Part of my family's original estate, The Hatchery was sold out of the family about 60 years ago by my great grandmother. It is a delight to have it back in the family, and we welcome you to come share our family history and to explore the Catskill Mountains!
Hatchery Hollow is a beautiful, secluded family estate, surrounded on three sides by the Catskill Park. Wildlife and wildflowers about - it is truly a nature-lover's paradise! Relax in nature, explore, hike, swim, ski... there is plenty to do outside, and all of the comforts of home to return to! Or, if you prefer shopping and exploring the little towns, shops, antiques and restaurants nearby, there is lots to engage you!
Physical setting lovely. Disappointed in cleanliness..toaster oven, pots and pans filthy. Coffee filter moldy. Need to thoroughly clean before renting
Our stay at Hatchery Hollow was very enjoyable and a welcome reprieve from our daily lives. My husband and I enjoyed the peace and calm of the property as well as the friendliness and helpfulness of the landowner. We did many local hikes and found the location to be perfect driving distance for most everywhere we wanted to go: we went ziplining, bike riding, walking at a reservoir, and kicked around Woodstock. There are many relaxing, outdoor things to do and coming "home" each day was a pleasant experience in its own right.
We stayed for almost a month and it was wonderful. The kids enjoyed boating and fishing on the pond and there was a little beach 10 min. drive from the house. Calandra is a wonderful hostess and even sorted out my kids swimming lessons. The house is perfectly maintained en the grounds are very private which was just what we were looking for.
wonderful, peaceful, beautiful
a great place to relax and refresh
The vacation our family desperately needed. Finally quality time in peaceful quiet, face to face without distractions. The owner of Hatcher Hollow is the one of the nicest people we have met on our infrequent trips. She does live next door, but can be invisible or available whenever needed for advice on trips, hikes or anything else. Coming from a city i was shocked at the quiet next to a stream and huge pond sometimes stocked with trout( not in the property description and should not be expected, i think our timing was good). Night is dark and quiet, really quiet, no fear of bullfrogs and cicadas blaring at night or rosters crowing in the morning. The views, the hikes, the small towns are charming. Lots to do nearby or just relax. If you want to entertain lots of people and watch movies and make noise and party then this may not be the place because its cozy, not rambling. The accomdations are very good, maybe not like the Four Seasons but just homey and comfortable. We did not evern have to deal with bugs . Summer cool nights, crisp clean air and water. If you really need quality time to communicate with your family this is the place. Did i say the owner is a gem? Really nice family too. No roads or traffic for quite a ways. but easy to find. The property itself is enormous and spectacular. Is it inexpensive? its all relative, but basically worth the money, you will not be disappointed unless you want high end features that a million dollar house can provide. Look at the property description.
We loved our weekend at Hatchery Hollow. With a rushing stream behind the house, a pond in front, and carriage trails to hike, there was almost no reason to leave the property. When we did, we found the drives to Margaretville and Phoenicia scenic and easy. The home itself was gorgeous and well stocked. We especially loved the fire pit (under the stars!) and outdoor seating for picnics, reading - or sleeping (a hammock!). We scared up a wild turkey on one hike and encountered a full range of critters, including bunnies and so many frogs.
