About Robyn and Larry Myers

Hi! We are Larry and Robyn. We met on Orcas 33 years ago when Robyn went to watch a softball game with some friends. Larry made a diving catch out of left field and virtually ended up in Robyn's lap, and the rest, as they say, is history! Married for 35 years, they now have 3 grown children, 2 gorgeous grand-daughters, and a big black lab. We now live and play on the Oregon coast where Larry is a self-employed contractor and Robyn is a Teacher. We stay busy with golfing, fishing, gardening, our precious grand-children.

Why Robyn and Larry Myers chose Orcas Island

Address Un-Gnome was built by Robyn's uncle, a well-respected builder on Orcas, and her father, upon his retirement from the Los Alamos (New Mexico) Scientific Laboratory in 1982. Montgomery Lane originally belonged entirely to Robyn's grandfather (he and his wife homesteaded on Orcas, and raised 5 sons). He sold parcels to his children and closet friends, a.k.a Family and over the years Montgomery Lane developed. Robyn joined her parents on Orcas and spent several years there with Larry and their children, and many summers and holidays after they moved to Oregon. Robyn inherited the home from her parents, and she and Larry did an extensive remodel in recent years. Orcas Island as a whole, and Address Un-Gnome, in particular, will always be part of our hearts and heritage. We are blessed to have it, and glad to be able to share it. By the way, Larry named it Address Un-Gnome to honor Robyn's mother, who collected gnomes.

Perfect for our stay!

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect for our stay - a group of college friends getting together for a wedding right around the corner. The house was comfortable and had plenty of space to spread out, but also provided a great area for gathering together and catching up. The fire pit was a nice bonus. We very much enjoyed our stay!

Little cottage in the forest

  • 4 of 5

Our stay started off strange with a long term renter living in the house when we arrived. She was very nice, and the house was mostly clean. It took her a half hour to gather her belongings (including a pet bird) and then we could settle in for our two night stay.

The code to the key box did not work. I called the manager Becky and she arrived within 10 minutes. She could not get the key box to open either. We decided to not bother locking the house during our stay because of this.

Everything worked well for our group of female cyclists. We rode our bicycles to town for groceries at the Village Market. The store manager was kind and delivered our $300 dollars worth of food to the house. A watermelon would have been a challenge to carry on our bikes.

There is not a view of the water from this home. A path down to the water is across the street in a neighbors yard. This was a little disappointing.

Overall it was a comfortable stay.

Owner's Response: Hi, Ruth - Thank you for your review. Yes, that was quite the date mix -up for the arrival of you and your guests! We try to have long term renters in the house for 2 reasons: there is a housing crisis in the San Juans, and we do our best to offer housing to folks in need in exchange for caretaking the property. Secondly, we believe a house should be lived in, after all, that is it's purpose! So it is a win-win for all. I apologize for the date mix up, resulting in our renter being packed - but still there when your group arrived. It was totally my mistake. And I am glad you got to experience the heart of the Island- what I feel makes it the special place it is, when the Island Market manager brought your groceries to Address Un-Gnome from town a mile away. It is a truly remarkable place. Thank you again- Robyn and Larry

Perfect getaway for our family!

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect for our stay and included many extras. We were welcomed each day by deer in the front yard, and our kids enjoyed spotting all the different birds that kept coming by. We baked bread and made breakfasts in the fully stocked kitchen, enjoyed dinner in town, and spent our evenings by the fire roasting marshmallows. Inside and out the house is covered in special touches such as a chalk wall, hopscotch stones, and gnome gardens! During the day we explored the island and went kayaking where we saw seals, visited the beaches, and took the ferry to Canada for the Botanical Gardens. The trip was perfect, the owners were kind, and the house was lovely and full of extra charm!

Cozy house with plenty of extras

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay! A short walk to the town of Eastsound and close to the water. The house is full of activities, games, movies, kitchen supplies, and stocked with all the basics. If I didn't have a wedding to go to, I would have gladly spent the weekend there relaxing. Information was sent in a timely manner and directions were straight forward. Thank you!

Owner's Response: Thank you. Lisa - I appreciate your positive remarks about your stay at Address Un-Gnome. Our goal is for our guests to feel "at home" so you don't have to worry about anything - and simply enjoy your stay and all the Island has to offer. Orcas is a wonderful place for a wedding my husband and I were married on the Island; I am sure it was a great event for all. Thank you again ~~Robyn and Larry

Great location, but there were issues with the house.

  • 3 of 5

The house is in a Great location! It is minutes into Eastsound, yet peaceful with lots of deer and birds. We loved sitting on the deck! We had some issues. The stove/oven did not work, and we had to clean the microwave before we could use it. The stove was replaced that evening (but not before we had to eat out for all 3 meals). The caretakers daughter was Extremely helpful, and did all she could to make things better. The owner nicely invited us back, but we were surprised there was no adjustment to the cost, or offer for a reduced rate on a future stay, because of the problems. Unfortunately I can not in good conscience recommend the house until I know the mold is removed from the upstairs bedrooms and the downstairs sun room, and was surprised the house was offered for rent with mold present.

Owner's Response: Hi, Monique- I am glad the location and amenities of Address Un-Gnome met the needs of your group. We agree, the home is perfectly located to enjoy all Orcas Island has to offer. I am saddened by the rest of your comments, as my husband and I, as well as our caretakers work extremely hard to provide a safe, comfortable, welcoming home away from home, and obviously you feel we failed to do so. I must say, I feel blindsided by your comments, as when you called to relay your concerns during your stay our caretakers went above and beyond to meet your needs. From the time you called to report the stove was not working (blown fuse) til a replacement stove was installed it was less than 7 hours. This is on an island with no big box, resale, appliance or furniture stores. Our electrician brought you one of his own stoves so you would not be without one during your stay. Secondly, when you mentioned mold in the bedroom it was explained to you that what you were seeing was lichen (moss) trapped in between the double-pane skylight. The outer layer is cracked, the inner layer is intact. We have had it checked - there is no mold in the house. I do not appreciate being accused of knowingly renting a home that is not safe. Either myself, or the caretakers were in contact with you throughout the day the stove was being installed; the next day you emailed me that you were satisfied with the work done and praised especially Maggie, our caretakers daughter, who left work to fix the tv that someone in your property did not use correctly, disabling it. I am also disappointed that you only now, during your review, mentioned that you felt you were owed any recompense. As you will see by reading our reviews, we go above and beyond to meet the needs of our guests. You only mentioned one meal to me that was an issue due to the stove not working. In a subsequent email during your stay I asked if there was anything else you needed, and you never mentioned feeling you were owed for any meals. I will contact you at your private email to settle this situation by gathering information as to how much your 3 meals out cost you, and work out a reasonable agreement. In the end, we want this to be the best experience it can be for you, and your guests. ~~Robyn

A perfect home to stay on Orcas

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect for our stay. The house was extremely clean and super spacious. Our kids enjoyed the large room they stayed in and love playing in the front yard and watching the deer stop by at night. My wife and I enjoyed being able to sit out on the patio and enjoy the cool night air.

The owners were extremely helpful when we had an emergency and had to leave early. You cant ask for a better place to stay or owners to rent from!
