About Vanessa McCauley

We have lived here since 2000. We love our home and our neighborhood. Both Joel and I own our own businesses. We love to cook, go out, garden and drink a good beer with friends. We have two amazing children 11 and 9 and you will undoubtedly find evidence of them around the house.

Vanessa McCauley purchased this house in 2000

Why Vanessa McCauley chose Richmond

We were unmarried and in our late 20's when we bought this house. We wanted a house where we could raise our children. It has a huge yard, for the city, which we loved and 3 full baths that we knew would come in handy with kids. My parents had moved to Woodland Heights when I was a senior in high school and I immediately fell in love with the area. When I met the chap that would be my husband we were lucky enough to find the right house for us here too. I love to see how much the neighborhood has changed in the 25 years I have been here. I really could not, would not want, to imagine living anywhere else.

What makes this house unique

We love that our house is close to everything fun. We are within walking distance of the James River, an amazing farmers market (rated one of the best in the country by outdoor living), Browns Island, several restaurants, a coffee shop, Forest Hill Park and so much more. And don't forget all of Richmond's amazing festivals. I could not begin to name them all, but some to check out are:

The Richmond Folk Festival:

Broad Appetit

Watermelon Festival

Strawberry Festival

French Film Festival

The French Food Festival

2nd St. Festival

Richmond Jazz Fest

Great Stay

  • 4 of 5

This home was centrally located and comfortable for us. The Air Conditioning felt great after a day in the heat and humidity. It is well equipped. The location is easy to get around. Some nice restaurants in the area as well. Owner is easy to work with.

Great House~

  • 5 of 5

I was in town with 7 other co-workers for a conference. We stayed a week, and this house was the perfect setting for us. The house was in a really quiet neighborhood, and it was super close and easy to access Downtown Richmond where our conference location was.

Would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking to get a way! Even with 8 of us, there was plenty of room!

Girls weekend in Richmond

  • 5 of 5

In early June 2017 5 women who have known each other for years and who try to take a trip or two each year, met in Richmond (from DC, Phili & NC) to sight-see, cook, play cards and simply catch-up and enjoy each other's company. There are many terrific sight-seeing finds in Richmond. Finding a home conveniently located to downtown with ample bedrooms and bathrooms was more difficult than I first imagined. When I found this house with 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms it seemed perfect. The house is so charming, very old but with all the needed amenities along with the charm and comfort of homes built a hundred years ago. It was a very warm weekend and the AC worked perfectly. We had plenty of space to lounge including the back yard with a gas grill that we used. Several of us had heard that this was not the best neighborhood but there was absolutely nothing about this neighborhood that caused us concern. It was a quiet location with a well attended community church across the street. We spent mornings and evenings on the front porch drinking coffee/wine.

The owner, Vanessa McCauley, was responsive to my many questions and was very accommodating. It is a beautiful old house and we would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Richmond. Ruth O

We felt like we were coming home

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I recently had the pleasure of spending 5 nights at this beautiful home. We met in Richmond 35 years ago and return to celebrate at least every other year. Over the years, we have stayed at a range of accommodations, from hotels, short term rentals, bed and breakfast inns, and resorts. This beautiful home now tops of that accommodation list.

We found the home to be comfortable, clean, and well-stocked with bath supplies and linens. The kitchen is probably one of the most completely equipped we have seen in a long time. You can tell that the owners actually live in the home instead of it having a cold, impersonal and sterile atmosphere. Parking was very convenient, the area was quiet and we really loved the sitting room which was immediately off of the kitchen. The neighborhood is also very safe and welcoming.

If you are looking for a getaway in a warm and inviting home, we completely and totally recommend this property. Not only did we thoroughly enjoy our stay, we will keep it in our Richmond travel folder for future reference. We will look for this home when we come to Richmond on our next stay.

Beautiful house, wonderful host!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful house, wonderful host! We spent a week at this charming home while visiting Richmond. We were two adults, a child, a baby, and Grandma even came for a night, but there was still plenty of room for everyone! Rooms were spacious, beds were comfy, kitchen is well-equipped. My daughter was in love with the backyard and swing. And we had a few nice warm nights to eat outside on the patio. Everything was clean, bright, and beautifuly decorated.I would absolutely recommend this home to anyone. The area was great, felt very comfortable walking with the kids to the park, and everything was so close by, it only took a few minutes by car to get to the other side of the river.
