Enjoy sitting on our front porch, layzing away in the hammock or relaxing on our large brick patio. Minutes to VCU, the bottom, many historical sights and the James River, you could not ask for a more convenient location.
We have lived here since 2000. We love our home and our neighborhood. Both Joel and I own our own businesses. We love to cook, go out, garden and drink a good beer with friends. We have two amazing children 11 and 8 and you will for sure find evidence of them around the house.
Vanessa McCauley purchased this house in 2000
We were unmarried and in our late 20's when we bought this house. We wanted a house where we could raise our children. It has a huge yard, for the city, which we loved and 3 full baths that we knew would come in handy with kids. My parents had moved to Woodland Heights when I was a senior in high school and I immediately fell in love with the area. When I met the chap that would be my husband we were lucky enough to find the right house for us here too. I love to see how much the neighborhood has changed in the 25 years I have been here. I really could not, would not want, to imagine living anywhere else.
We love that our house is close to everything fun. We are within walking distance of the James River, an amazing farmers market (rated one of the best in the country by outdoor living), Browns Island, several restaurants, a coffee shop, Forest Hill Park and so much more. And don't forget all of Richmond's amazing festivals. I could not begin to name them all, but some to check out are:
The Richmond Folk Festival:
French Film Festival
The French Food Festival
2nd St. Festival
Richmond Jazz Fest
We enjoyed our stay. Big house. Four Adults two children. Plenty of room for everyone. Two living rooms. Full kitchen. Very nice shower upstairs. Comfy beds. Close to town. Walked to a small locals bakery 2 1/2 blk away for a coffee and muffin each day.
We comfortably stayed in this beautiful home for the all important VCU graduation weekend. We were extremely happy with the property both inside and outside and the listing was true to it's description. The house appears small from the street, yet is surprisingly large in the inside. There was no need to visit crowded restaurants or bars when we were able to relax in a clean, uniquely old house with most all ordinarily modern amenities. As a horticulturalist, I enjoyed the gardens front and back. The location and ease of getting downtown made it a great choice. We all were extremely happy with the memories that were made at this property in the Woodland Park area, just south of the James river. We surely would recommend that others stay at this house. - Brett L.
We were in Richmond for our daughter's graduation from law school and loved our stay at this property.
The listing description was accurate regarding the location, layout, and amenities.
The location is wonderful, on a quiet street but within walking distance of the James River with its' parks and trails and also very close to downtown.
The house was clean, well-maintained, and comfortable for our family of 5 adults.
The owner was very accommodating, providing excellent customer service.
We enjoyed renting bikes at Riverside Outfitters and experienced a delicious dinner at Acacia.
I would highly recommend this property and a trip to Richmond.
We had travelled several times in the area, and I always dreamed of visiting , or better, staying , in one of those historic houses that make the area so interesting. Well, this is my dream come true : this house is lovely, beautifully decorated with ancient and interesting furniture, while being perfectly comfortable at the same time.
The house is very conveniently located at close driving distance from the center of Richmond, in a quiet residential area. The house is spatious, more than enough for the six of us. Everything was spotless on arrival. The kitchen is well equipped, the bedding very comfortable; there is a charming yard all around.
We had a little problem with the heating system , and Vanessa and Joel took care of it immediately. Moreover, they were particularly helping before we arrived, for we had some travel problems due to tragic events in Belgium at that time, and we very much appreciated it.
We had a lovely one week stay in this house , would recommend it to anyone and would go back if in the area again.
My family and I loved stepping back in time with the historic home and yet it had all the amenities that we needed. Well appointed kitchen and lovely back patio. We enjoyed our morning coffee on the front porch each morning. It was only a short walk to the local coffee house (Crossroads) which served awesome sandwiches, drinks, ice cream and beer and wine. The host, Vanessa, was fantastic. She answered all my questions and even did a little research for me on local nail salons. She creates her own organic soaps, lotions, etc so the house smelled wonderful. She also provided all linens and towels which was an added bonus. She refunded our security deposit very quickly and offered to mail back a charger we left behind. I definitely recommend this house to anyone looking for a quiet get away. Thanks for everything Vanessa.
From my first interaction with the lovely homeowner I was blown away by our hostesses kindness, attention to detail, responsiveness, and communication style. Speaking as a host for another similar site, these hosts exemplifies the best of the "sharing economy".
And that's all before arrival! The house itself and the neighborhood were perfection for our family of adults in for a family reunion. The space was a perfect retreat from a day of activities, a beautifully appointed home with every possible amenity. The welcome book was precise and warm and made us feel right at home.
Getting in and out was a breeze, we had everything we needed and our hosts were a text away if we had any questions. Even leaving, our hostess was kind enough to send items that we'd left!
I can't recommend this place enough!
