Wonderful character cottage retaining much charm to include beamed ceilings and an working open fireplace in the large living room. Fine sea views can be enjoyed from cottage and from the pretty cottage garden. Spacious and well presented accommodation throughout to include a well appointed kitchen, living room with feature fireplace and three bedrooms, the master double bedroom having an ensuite shower room. Ideally located for all facilities in Newlyn village and within striking distance of some of Cornwall's finest beaches and famous fishing villages.

Refurbished for 2010 with new kitchen and shower rooms.

Tonkins Cottage is a 200-year-old cottage just 15 metres from the beautiful Newlyn Harbour, in a delightful part of Cornwall. It is well situated for exploring the delights of Newlyn, Penzance and the whole of the Lands End Peninsula. The cottage with its fine decor includes night storage heaters, double glazing throughout and is fully equipped for 2 – 6 people. Also a small garden to the front where you can sit, look over the harbour, and enjoy the sun trap.

Nice cottage impractical

Lovely cottage, but difficult for older people. Stairs very steep. En suite unbelievably small

Steps down from road difficult. My wife had had a knee replacement 3 weeks before holiday and was unable to get to the kitchen.

Great place

Tonkins cottage was absolutely perfect fir us. Great price, great position , helpful owners. Spent just over a week there and were very disappointed to leave. I am 6 foot 4 tall and banged my head everywhere within this house, however if anyone leaves a negative comment about tonkins cottage they are wrongly overestimating their own importance in life.

Cosy and homely cottage

A lovely, quaint, cosy and well equipped cottage. When we arrived the cottage was very clean and we felt at home instantly.

The information folder was full of ideas for days out and the location was great for day tripping and there was also plenty to do within walking distance.

There was a 3 year old in our party and she had no problems with the stairs.

I will definitely be booking Tonkins Cottage again next year!

Not a happy experience

We arrived early evening unable to park outside to unload. Steps leading to cottage were extremely dangerous totally unsuitable for anybody. The "minute" garden was unkempt and lots of litter. The key didn't work in the lock properly. Carpets were dirty and stained, it smelt of wet dogs rugs were dirty, mattresses well worn without protectors, wardrobes had damp walls, en-suite was a cupboard in the corner of the room with a sink in the bedroom and a water heater. However, we complained to the owner who refunded our money needless to say we didn't stay 1 night and were able to find another property with another holiday co. which was absolutely fantastic. Tonkins could do with an upgrade.

Owner's Response: Thankyou for you review, in response, we did arrange for the housekeeper to visit the cottage within 30 minutes of your phone call to check the cleaniness, you agreed with the housekeeper the cottage had been cleaned. There were a couple of small stains on one carpet, the en suite is small as it is a 130 year old character cottage, rooms in the late 1800's were small. If as a guest you are looking for a new build apartment Tonkins is not the ideal place to stay, if you are looking for a traditional cornish cottage then it is a wonderful place to stay as the guests the week before you and after stated with a 5 star reviews. As per our policy a no quibble full refund including deposit was given. My biggest disappointment as an owner was despite sending a cleaner round within half an hour and having a full refund in your bank within 2 hours, still only one star was given, which does suggest your review is not a fair one. Comfortable, cosy and well equipped cottage

We were impressed as soon as we arrived. The cottage was spacious and easily accommodated 5 adults and a toddler. It was well equipped and maintained and lived up to expectations from the web site description. We were looked after well by owners in preparation for the visit and knew what was expected of us. We spent a lot of time running/walking along the coast easily accessing Penzance and Mousehole on foot.

Local pubs are welcoming and eating, if you like fish, is heaven!

Local shops provide fresh quality produce and we cooked a lot to enjoy this.

Best meal was in Newlyn in the Mackeral Sky seafood bar where you can choose dishes to share or eat alone, which are cooked to order. Good value and excellent food. Just go along and hope for a table, you can't book.

A great break for us, all went home happy!

lovely family accomodation

We ranged from 5 months to 61 years of age (grandparents, mum and children) - the cottage was lovely - very convenient for everywhere we wanted to go and within walking distance of Penzance and Mousehole. We have been coming to Newlyn for 30 years and this is most certainly a cottage that we would return to. It was warm, comfortable with everything that we could have wanted and well equipped. Slight and very minor hiccup is the parking but was worth the slight hassle. Would highly recommend and will certainly be back

Take the A30 to Penzance, follow Penzance centre (ignore A30 Newlyn Signs), take the coast road to Newlyn,

once you are in Newlyn follow Mousehole signs past the docks, go up the hill past the Red Lion and the Fishermans Pub, you will see the cottage 20 yards past the fishermans on the right, carry on for 100 yards until

you come to the end of the 1 way system as you do this immediately make a 180 degree u turn back on yourself

after 50 yards see a post box and a small grass area. Tonkins Cottage is the cottage behind the postbox.
