A stay at the Kaibab Casita will give you excellent views of the Kaibab Plateau and the Vermillion Cliffs, including the Island in the Sky--a short two hour hike to some incredible, ancient rock art. Located at the heart of a dozen national parks, national forests, national monuments, and state parks, you will have millions of unparalleled adventures to choose from.
The casita is an immaculate one bedroom, one bath property that sleeps four. Brand new furniture and tasteful decorations create a cozy get-a-away. The kitchenette has a refrigerator, stove top, toaster oven, mircowave, blender, and coffee machine. Bedroom has a comfortable queen sized bed with a new memory foam mattress. The living room has a cozy gas fireplace and a TV, as well as a couch that pulls out to an additional queen sized bed.
Several outdoor patios surround the native landscape property for dining al fresco. Enjoy the colorful native plants, soulful birds, lazy lizards, friendly rabbits, and chattering chipmunks that frequently visit.
We are Latimer and Megan Smith. We both grew up in Southern Utah and have been residents of Kanab since our high school days. Latimer is the assistant manager for a river rafting company and a Grand Canyon river guide, and Megan, a former backcountry ranger, now runs the rental and works part-time for a non-profit education foundation while staying at home to care for our two children, our friendly dog, Blue, and our turtle, John Keats. We live on the property, so if you'd like, feel free to come over and say hello.
Megan Smith purchased this cabin in 2010
We bought this property because of the amazing views and the quiet neighborhood. We are an outdoor family, and we love the fact that we can be on a trail within minutes of leaving our home. We think you will enjoy it too. We are close to all the local trails and surrounded by national parks and monuments. Come stay!
We drawn to this home because of its big views. The front of the house looks out toward the Kaibab Plateau where the Grand Canyon lies below. The back of the house affords a magnificent view of what locals call "The Island in the Sky", a small throne of white sandstone among the dark vermilion cliffs. An hour or so of hiking will get you to the Island, also known as Mansard, where a panel of ancient petroglyphs await.
My husband and I, along with our 2 boys and dog really enjoyed our stay over the Thanksgiving weekend. What a nice getaway! Even though the casita doesn't have an actual oven, we skipped the "whole" turkey and brought a breast along with all of the fixings and had ourselves a wonderful dinner!
Megan and her family were gone for the holiday and we never got to actually meet them but I really appreciated how she kept in contact with me before the trip and even checked up on me afterward to make sure everything went well. She even offered my dog the use of her dogs dishes! What a hostess!
We will definitely come back to Kanab for more hiking and would love to stay in the casita again!
This is a very comfortable setting for us. Remote, however a short distance from town and our destination. We will go back again for our 3rd time.
My wife and I, in our 60's, coming from California, enjoyed this pleasant, comfortably furnished casita several miles outside of Kanab. We used it as a base for exploring the national parks and local natural areas. It's conveniently located near Kanab in a rural residential area. The place is clean and well cared for with a great book collection and as much media as you might want with a big screen. The kitchen is a little tight like a ship's galley but entirely functional as we did our own cooking for more than a week. I particularly liked that it was only a few minutes from Kanab with all its amenities, but was removed from the town bustle. It's close enough to the highway that, if outside, you can occasionally hear the trucks, but we didn't find the sound level annoying and I'm pretty sensitive to noise. At night it's very quiet. We enjoyed the dark nights and stars, coyote howls, and sense of space.
We enjoyed our stay...the location is great outside of town, but such a quick drive. Megan provides lots of tourism info to help plan hikes or nearby day trips. The casita was very clean and well furnished for 2 people. It would be quite small for more. Just note that their is no oven, although there's a sizable toaster oven. We cooked a bit, but not as much as we thought as the kitchen is small. Overall we found the casita was a comfortable and cute place to stay for our 5-day visit. Would definitely return!
We stayed for 4 nights at the Casita and we loved our stay! The house was very comfortable and lovely. The Casita is located outside of town on a very quite, beautiful spot. It was exactly what we were looking for. Our only regret is that we did not spend more time. Also the Casita is filled with a collection of excellent books we wish we would have had time to read!
The area around Kanab is stunning and worth exploring. The Casita is a great home base for visiting sites in southern Utah and northern Arizona. We were on tour with 2 ladies from Australia who were complaining about all the noise at their hotel in town. We could only smile thinking about the blissful peace and quiet awaiting us at the Casita after the tour. Thanks Megan and Latimer! We hope to make it back someday.
My husband and I stayed at the Kaibab Casita for two nights. Megan was very responsive and answered all our questions beforehand and her place was very easy to find.
The Casita was very clean with everything we needed. Comfortable bed and well equipped kitchen. The casita is separate from their home so you have all the privacy you need but close enough for any questions or concerns you might have.
Megan and her husband know a lot about the Grand Canyon (turns out he's a river guide), Zion, things to do in the area and had great recommendations.
Kanab has the most beautiful red rock cliffs as their backdrop that make you feel like you're getting a real southern Utah experience! Kanab is the perfect home base to explore the north rim of the Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, Vermillion Cliffs, Lake Powell, and Bryce Canyon National Park.
We had a great day in Zion and the Casita was a relaxing place to come home to after a long day of hiking.
Within a two hour drive or less of the Kaibab Casita, you can visit Zion, Bryce, and Grand Canyon National Parks, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area (Lake Powell), Vermillion Cliffs, Grand Staircase-Escalante and Pipe Springs National Monuments, Kaibab and Dixie National Forests, Coral Pink Sand Dunes, Cedar Breaks, and Kodachrome Basin State Parks, and millions of acres of public land. You will find yourself in the heart of outdoor adventures. A fifteen minute drive takes you to location of Best Friends Animal Society, the largest animal sanctuary in the United States.
