Overview

About the property

2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, Sleeps 4

Beautiful and spacious apartment (110 m2) with elevator in Kollwitz Strasse, the heart of Prenzlauer Berg - it doesn't get better!

Inside you find elegant decoration & comfort, high ceilings and space (+ very fast internet + Netflix), outside you find the cafés and restaurants, cobble stones and parks (and the famous market on Saturdays).

Public transport is 5 minutes away (Tram M2 at Prenzlauer Allee and S7 at Senefelderplatz).

It's where I live and work (I'm a writer), when I'm not doing so in Rotterdam, my other home. It therefore is not some impersonal apartment filled with cheap furniture, but you will find good furniture and nice art on the wall.

There are two bedrooms. One with a large double and two singles in the study/guest room. They can be attached to the single if needed. Of course linnen and towels are provided.

Also available: a well filled library in many languages, soap & conditioner, a well equipped kitchen in case you want to cook at home instead of eat in one of the many restaurants in m,y neighborhood.

I have been a VRBO-host since 2012 -with pleasure, and a lot of good reviews!- in Amsterdam/Rotterdam, before in 2015 I partly moved to Berlin.

My place is not fit for party people, I'm afraid! I'm a quiet person, respecting my neighbors, and I like guests to do the same!

Space, Peace and Comfort in Prenzlauer Berg

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay in Mark's spacious apartment in Kollwitzstrasse, Prenzlauer Berg in mid-August. Before our trip, Mark sent us excellent information about the apartment and clear directions to find it and we arrived whilst the famous Kollwitzplatz Saturday market was in full flow right outside. The apartment's central location was fantastic - 5 minutes walk to the tram, and just four easy stops to Alexanderplatz - and it was close enough to the centre of the city to be able to pop back "home" when we were feeling tired from sightseeing. The two bedrooms were comfortable and the main living room was a peaceful space to sit and read. The apartment is on the second floor and sits high above the street amidst the trees, so there is very little traffic noise. Our two teenage daughters loved the WiFi and my husband and I enjoyed the lofty ceilings and quiet charm of the apartment which offered us everything we needed for a great family stay - so much more personal and relaxed than a hotel. The simple kitchen enabled us to cook some easy meals for ourselves and there was a useful supermarket just across the road. There were also numerous cafes and restaurants in the pretty cobbled streets and squares which make up this historic area of Berlin, and on Mark's recommendation we tried several and particularly enjoyed the cakes at Anna Blume just up the street!

Berlin is a fascinating city, and the public transport is easy to use and always on time. We opted for a Berlin Welcome Card when we arrived at the airport, which allowed us to hop on and off buses, trams, trains and the U Bahn whenever we wanted during our stay and also gave discounted entry into some of the city's excellent museums and attractions. We had pre-booked a free tour of the Reichstag Dome, which was a great way to start the holiday as the views across the city are magnificent. We also enjoyed visits to the Berlin Wall Museum, the Berliner Dom, DDR Museum, Topographie des Terrors and Schloss and Park Sanssouci at Potsdam and for classical music enthusiasts, the quirky Musikinstrumenten Museum close to the Berlin Philharmonie is a real delight.

Thank you Mark for allowing us to stay in your comfortable apartment - five days was not long enough to absorb all that Berlin has to offer and we would love to return to your spacious and peaceful home!

Beautiful apartment

  • 4 of 5

What a beautiful apartment in a great location. Getting around Berlin was easy as the public transport was nearby. The rooms are large with high ceilings and wide opening windows. The tree lined streets around the apartment are filled with cafes and restaurants and just he kind of ambiance we were looking for. My husband and sister in law had plenty of room to move around, to read and relax and come together at the table for meals. All three of us agreed it was the best place we had stayed during our holiday in Germany. We would certainly recomment this apartment to friends.

However, we would like to point out some things that disappointed us in the hope that owner will make his apartment even better for future guests.

If the beds, bed linen, cutlery and crockery were of better quality, the apartment would be luxurious. The apartment wasn't as clean as it should been when we arrived, especially the kitchen. The hot water was intermittent. I contacted the owner who was conciliatory but unable to work out why there was a problem.

Despite these problems! I would recommend this apartment for its size and location

Owner's Response: The beds are new and of good quality. I guess to like them or not is a matter of taste. And of course there is warm water! This guest had adjusted the wrong taps...

Lovely, comfortable, wonderful location

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful 10 day visit to Berlin in this very comfortable apartment. This is a spacious apartment on a tree lined street in one of Berlin's most desirable neighbourhoods. The morning sun enters the large front window, filtered through the sycamore trees, and reflects off the beautifully restored wood floors. There is a good sized kitchen and a number of good deli shops with food for easy preparation. Mark's very good "house book" is helpful. A couple of newer establishments, Schlomo's and No Fire, No Glory, became favourites for morning coffee. The elevator was appreciated on occasion, but mostly we used the stairs. WiFi was very good. Communication with Mark was prompt and helpful. We look forward to visiting Berlin again and would hope to stay at Mark's.

The apartment is very elegant, light, and extremely comfortable, great neighbourhood and location.

  • 5 of 5

We spent Christmas at Mark's apartment and had a really great stay. It is in a fabulous neighbourhood, lovely cafes, bars and shops all close by and a street market on Christmas Eve while we were there. The apartment is spacious, bright and tasteful with lovely high ceilings and being on the second floor, it was very quiet, never heard a neighbour or any street noise. There is so much to see and do in Berlin and we found this apartment to be in great location, close to metro and tram stops to visit all the sites. Mark was attentive and helpful and we can thoroughly recommend his lovely apartment as a great place to stay to enjoy all that Berlin has to offer.

Elegant, charming, generous and real

  • 5 of 5

Berlin itself is such a rewarding spot. We barely scraped the surface of fascinating places, museums and galleries to see but it felt like we hardly stopped walking from one wonder to the next. As there were such a lot of absorbing and stimulating (and sometimes chastening) experiences, we really appreciated having a beautiful 'home' waiting for us in the evenings, where we could relax, snuggle down, draw a bath, light candles and cook supper. Well, tbf that's just what we like to do - and there's a great supermarket on the other side of the road - but if you aren't a fan of cooking then you will probably love the zillions of cafes and restaurants in the area. All tastes, budgets and styles catered for. Anyway, this apartment is in a wonderful bit of the city (think Greenwich Village; bookshops, organic greengrocers, cafes and parks. But post-Eastern Bloc so artier and edgier). It was either 30 minutes walking or 6 minutes on the tram into the transport hub at Alexanderplatz. I loved the high ceilings, the light, the simple-but-beautiful furniture, the well-equipped kitchen, the warmth and the view over the trees in the street outside. And when I eventually found it I also loved the lift (don't be like me and forget to ask Mark for directions!). All in all, I'd go back like a shot. Thank you very much Mark, I hope that one day we'll get back to Berlin and see all the interesting things that I missed first time round. In the meantime though, it's a very happy memory and one I recommend thoroughly.

Great Location in a Great Neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent 3 weeks in this apartment, and it was perfect. All the rooms are generously sized with all modern conveniences, including a dryer--both for clothes and hair--wood floors, high ceilings. Furnishings are modest but more than adequate. The building is well-tended with an elevator. But the best thing about the apartment is the neighborhood with an abundance of interesting shops, cafes, restaurants, bakeries, and Saturdays there is a large farmer´s market right there on the Kollwitz Str. where you can get fresh pasta, truffles, excellent cheese, meat, fish, produce, etc. This is my idea of city living at its best. Of course, there is excellent public transportation quite close, bus, tram and subway, and you are only a few stops away from Alexanderplatz, which connects to the whole system. We were disturbed twice by rather loud music late in the night, but that is a price we gladly paid for being in this lively, energetic neighborhood. The Wifi was completely reliable and fast throughout our stay, and Mark was most attentive to every question I had. I would be delighted to stay in this apartment again.
