Beautiful apartment (110 m2) in Kollwitz Strasse, the heart of Prenzlauer Berg - it doesn't get better! Inside you find elegant decoration & comfort, high ceilings and space, outside you find the cafés and restaurants, cobble stones and parks (and the famous market on Saturdays). Public transport is 5 minutes away (Tram M2 at Prenzlauer Allee and S7 at Senefelderplatz).
It's where I live and work (I'm a writer), when I'm not doing so in Amsterdam, my other home.
There are two bedrooms. One with a large double and a single in the study/guest room. I set up a fourth bed in the guest room (a real bed, no air/stretcher!), that can be attached to the single if needed. Of course linnen and towels are provided.
Also available: a well filled library in many languages, soap & conditioner, a well equipped kitchen (as said, this is not some rental apartment).
I have been a VRBO-host since 2012 -with pleasure, and a lot of good reviews!- in Amsterdam, before in 2015 I partly moved to Berlin.
My place is not fit for party people, I'm afraid! I'm a quiet person, respecting my neighbors, and I like guests to do the same!
I'm a writer and journalist. I am a Dutchman, who lives in Amsterdam to Berlin. I am a VRBO-host there, since 2011, with pleasure!
I I like sports, music, traveling and meeting my friends.
I love this apartment, and I'm sure you'll love it too!
Mark Schalekamp purchased this apartment in 2015
Location, location, location... You can't beat the Kollwitzstrasse. It is spacious (110 m2), elegant and comfortable.
Berlin itself is such a rewarding spot. We barely scraped the surface of fascinating places, museums and galleries to see but it felt like we hardly stopped walking from one wonder to the next. As there were such a lot of absorbing and stimulating (and sometimes chastening) experiences, we really appreciated having a beautiful 'home' waiting for us in the evenings, where we could relax, snuggle down, draw a bath, light candles and cook supper. Well, tbf that's just what we like to do - and there's a great supermarket on the other side of the road - but if you aren't a fan of cooking then you will probably love the zillions of cafes and restaurants in the area. All tastes, budgets and styles catered for. Anyway, this apartment is in a wonderful bit of the city (think Greenwich Village; bookshops, organic greengrocers, cafes and parks. But post-Eastern Bloc so artier and edgier). It was either 30 minutes walking or 6 minutes on the tram into the transport hub at Alexanderplatz. I loved the high ceilings, the light, the simple-but-beautiful furniture, the well-equipped kitchen, the warmth and the view over the trees in the street outside. And when I eventually found it I also loved the lift (don't be like me and forget to ask Mark for directions!). All in all, I'd go back like a shot. Thank you very much Mark, I hope that one day we'll get back to Berlin and see all the interesting things that I missed first time round. In the meantime though, it's a very happy memory and one I recommend thoroughly.
My husband and I spent 3 weeks in this apartment, and it was perfect. All the rooms are generously sized with all modern conveniences, including a dryer--both for clothes and hair--wood floors, high ceilings. Furnishings are modest but more than adequate. The building is well-tended with an elevator. But the best thing about the apartment is the neighborhood with an abundance of interesting shops, cafes, restaurants, bakeries, and Saturdays there is a large farmer´s market right there on the Kollwitz Str. where you can get fresh pasta, truffles, excellent cheese, meat, fish, produce, etc. This is my idea of city living at its best. Of course, there is excellent public transportation quite close, bus, tram and subway, and you are only a few stops away from Alexanderplatz, which connects to the whole system. We were disturbed twice by rather loud music late in the night, but that is a price we gladly paid for being in this lively, energetic neighborhood. The Wifi was completely reliable and fast throughout our stay, and Mark was most attentive to every question I had. I would be delighted to stay in this apartment again.
Mark's apartment in Prenzlauer Berg is in a perfect location to enjoy neighborhood restaurants and shops. It is great if you are there on a Saturday; the farmer's market that morning is right out your door! It is convenient to transportation. The ceilings are high, the windows large and the floors beautiful. You have a feeling of spaciousness and light. There are some things he could improve, however. It was clean, but not perfectly ready for our arrival. The wastebasket in the bathroom was full and there were dead flowers left behind. There was a lot of old food in the kitchen. Maybe this is a plus for some people, but to us it seemed unappealing. The second bedroom lacks any storage or hanging space for clothing. The second bed in that room is better for a child than an adult.
These details may seem nitpicky because we enjoyed our stay in Mark's apartment immensely. He was very responsive to any emails in preparation to our stay.
Mark is lovely. He is prompt in his replies and always available. The apartment is in a stimulating and delightful neighbourhood. The apartment is simply furnished and it's easy to enjoy. It might perhaps be good to improve the stall on the shower in the bathroom, but otherwise everything is great. There's a grocery store across the street, an organic store a few minutes further near the metro, lovely restaurants nearby, great atmosphere in the streets around and about. This is a really lovely place to base your time in Berlin. It's a classic, high-ceilinged, quiet space in a vibrant (but never noisy) locale.Highly recommended.
I was visiting Berlin for five days with my parents, and we decided to look for an apartment. We were lucky to find Mark's place. The apartment itself is lovely - sky high ceilings, wooden floors, tons of light, a little terrace. Unexpected perks included a washer/dryer and elevator. The neighborhood was equally wonderful - green, quiet, hip and filled to the brim with cafes and restaurants. We didn't even have to venture off Mark's street to find a delicious breakfast at a different spot each day. Trams and underground were all conveniently close by. Finally, Mark was a very attentive host, promptly answering any questions we had and checking in to make sure everything was alright. We would stay at his place again in a heartbeat!
This is a lovely apartment in a wonderful neighborhood - spacious, light and well maintained. Mark is very responsive and his assistant Mike who met us at the apartment was also very nice and helpful. It's a beautiful neighborhood to walk through and there are many interesting shops, cafes and restaurants. The U-bahn (Senefelderplatz) is a 10-minute away & just two stops from Alexanderplatz in the central part of the city. A great surprise was the Saturday outdoor food market on Kollwitzstrasse, directly in front of the apartment building. There's also a terrific large health food store right near the U-bahn. Highly recommend it as a place to stay and I would definitely come back!
