Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday home in Sedona Shadows - Doc's Shangri-la

7 Miles North Of Uptown Is This Lovely Home Located On Oak Creek

Oak Creek Canyon, one of Sedona's more favorite attractions, is where you will find our home named Doc's Shangri-La. A wonderful two-story vacation home that will sleep up to 8 guests, Shangri-La sits in a quiet residential community nestled at the base of tall canyon walls and alongside the beautiful and always present waters of Oak Creek.

While staying at Shangri-La, you will find yourself surrounded by canyon walls of tree covered red rock towering seemingly all around you. A short walk will bring you to the creek with access to hiking trails, swimming and trout fishing. A short drive brings you to Slide Rock Park; a natural water park made from smoothed red rocks that everyone enjoys. Arizona's most popular state park.

Back at home, you'll find a great deck that overlooks the creek. With Oak Creek providing the ever-present sound of it's running waters, the deck is a wonderful place to sit, relax, and enjoy the fresh air and green beauty around you. The deck is accessed through the Great Room and the Master Bedroom Suite and also offers a private 5 person hot tub, a gas barbeque grill and comfortable seating.

A spacious 3 bedroom home, Shangri-La also has a large den with separate entrance, so there is plenty of room for everyone!

Perfect for our trip.

  • 5 of 5

6 adult family members in one house and we still like each other. Plenty of room, the hot tub was fun. Close to everything we needed. Cheree was very helpful. Would go again.

Perfect Spot for family or quiet getaway

  • 5 of 5

We spent 5 nights in Oak Creek Canyon for my mother's 60th Birthday and this property was a perfect fit for our family! The kitchen and outdoor grill were perfect as we cooked at the house almost every night. The hot tub was a perfect way to wind down the day after a hike or bike ride. The neighborhood was super quiet despite being Memorial Day Weekend and had plenty of room for the six of us. The house was spotless and the owners were a pleasure to work with. Oak Creek Canyon is a bit off the beaten path but still easy access to all the sights of Sedona and the Grand Canyon. Would highly recommend for a family trip or quiet getaway!

Quiet, Clean

  • 4 of 5

This property was clean and the home owner was helpful in solving any problems we had. The beds were comfortable and the home is very spacious. We liked the quiet location. The patio deck was very nice - just wish the weather had been a little warmer so we could have spent more time out there.

Great stay at this property nested in the heart of Oak Creek Canyon.

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful time staying at this property. The house was very clean and very comfortable and had all the amenities you need to have a good time (barbecue, spa, great view, large comfortable sofa in the living room, wifi -connection is good enough to check your emails not enough to stream netflix- even a piano...). The kitchen was really nice and had everything you need if you're a serious cook. We stayed there with our three children (4 to 12 years old) and my in-laws and everyone enjoyed it.

The instructions from the owner were clear and practical.

The house is located in the middle of Oak Canyon in the middle of the trees only 10 minutes by car from downtown Sedona and 15 minutes from most hiking trails.

The only cons I see are that the house is located close to a busy road and you can hear the cars from the terrace so despite the pretty secluded location this is a noisy reminder that civilization is never far... Also you have to cross the river through a low bridge to get there and it might get flooded when it rains, potentially getting you stuck on either side of the bridge for a few hours. If you're on a schedule you might want to considerer it depending on which season you're going. This has not happened to us but we got a little worried because it started raining on the day we left, luckily the water hand't risen too high when we left. These are the only reasons why I am not giving a 5 stars rating.

We would certainly recommend this property to our friends or stay there again!

Owner's Response: Thank you Claire! I would encourage each traveler to read the instructions and description of the property very carefully prior to booking. We do disclose there is a possibility of water run off in the canyon during winter months. This is an amazing sight to see, creating waterfalls all over the canyon. Perhaps I should include that this only happens when there is a large amount of snow in Flagstaff and Sedona and then it rains on top of the snow. We actually have return guests come during winter to attempt to see the canyon during these times. I must add that the canyon does not flood with normal rain fall as you received during your stay. Glad you enjoyed your stay!

There is limited cell phone reception in the canyon. Sprint works great but other do not. This was actually one of our favorite things about living here. You can get away from it all and not be bothered. There is a land line that does not have long distance but you can receive calls. If you need to make long distance calls, please bring calling card on your trip. You can always just drive 2 miles south to use your cell phone also. Also please be aware if you are unfamiliar with the canyon, during run off months, the water levels can rise above the bridge, making it impassible. While all the waterfalls and runoff can be the most beautiful experience in the canyon, it can also be annoying when you are unaware of it. This can last anywhere from an hour to several hours.
