Bedrooms 4
Space 2,600 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 1 - 7 nights

About the property

4BR/2BA Lewes Home, Fenced Yard/Porch/Deck/Outdoor Shower/Grill/Private Driveway

Enjoy your summer vacation in this Summertime Classic! Original Lewes Beach , Victorian-era home with tropical ambiance and décor, situated within prime, barefoot strolling distance (just 1.5 BLOCKS!) from Lewes Beach. Ready to host your group of family or friends, the house has 4 bedrooms, 2 full baths, plus outdoor shower with hot/cold, lovely living room, big kitchen with breakfast table, separate dining room, spread through 2,600 square feet. Free Internet/Wi-Fi, two televisions, and compact stereo, plus nice book library. Original wood floors on first floor with area rugs, and carpeting in bedrooms. All mattresses and box springs are new in spring of 2017, deluxe gel-foam core over individual coils, and new frames with high profile. Beautiful, total make-over with new windows, storm doors, shutters, paint, driveway, privacy fence, outdoor shower and more on the exterior, and inside new area rugs, ceiling fans, fresh paint, new shaded blinds, new pillows and bed covers, and other great upgrades.

The house has one of the largest fenced yards on Lewes Beach, and actually has TWO yards – a small side fenced yard for watching the kids while enjoying a lemonade on the front porch (front porch has two small picnic tables, ideal for Maryland Blue Crab feasts!), plus a big rear yard fully enclosed by a 7-foot privacy fence, with propane gas grill, large deck, picnic table and umbrella, roomy outdoor shower (hot/cold), and a grassy area for sunning or play. While everyone on vacation wants to enjoy the many dining opportunities in the area, Guests will appreciate the large, well-equipped kitchen with all new appliances in 2016.

Great location, with a quick barefoot 1.5 block walk to the life-guarded public beach, or enjoy a short 3-block stroll to the canal with its restaurants and charter fishing and sight-seeing cruises, or visit the historic downtown just across the canal bridge and filled with many small boutiques and restaurants. Bike, or hop in your car, for a 1-mile drive down to the Cape-May-Lewes Ferry (a 90 minute ride each way, and great for dolphin watching and just relaxing), or visit Cape Henlopen State Park and the many programs for kids and families alike, plus the waves of the Atlantic Ocean at the public beach!

For those Guests who do not want to worry about packing their own towels and linens, we work with an excellent local company that provides everything a vacationer might need - from beach towels and bed linens, to bikes and beach chairs. Almost all of our Guests take advantage of this service, and let us know they like the very reasonable fees and quality of the linens and towels. Guests just notify us a couple days in advance of arrival and we will put them in touch with the linen folks.

Our goal is to consistently provide our Guests with a comfortable, clean, and enjoyable time in our house. If you ever find anything amiss, please let us know promptly upon check-in so that we can try to remedy any problem. Similarly, we expect all Guests to treat the home and property as they would want their own to be treated. Simply because this is a vacation rental is no excuse for misuse. This is our private home - and we are entrusting it to the expected good care of our Guests.

We do NOT allow animals/pets of any sort to be brought onto the property, whether it has four legs, fins, feathers or slithers round. Absolutely no exceptions. Any violation will result in forfeiture of security deposit, plus incur costs of additional cleaning, dry cleaning of every bedspread and upholstered furniture in the home, professional deodorizing, professional spraying for fleas and ticks, plus any damages. .

Reviews: Our home was completely revamped in summer 2017, and this is a "new" listing. If you enjoy your stay at our home - and we are certain you will! - please express your satisfaction with a 5-star review to share your enjoyment with other prospective Guests. You will then be eligible for our Choice Renters Group, earning you a 5% - 10% discount off of your next rental from us (from either our Lewes home or our St. Augustine property - see VRBO # 567599).

Mahalo for considering our home for your Lewes vacation, and we look forward to your stay!

About Annette Ross

We're a military family, and "retired" young to the Tampa Bay area after the end of a successful Army career, whereupon hubby embarked on a second career, and is now a public school teacher. While we only get to visit Lewes occasionally, it remains a part of our hearts and history - camping trips to Cape Henlopen State Park, riding the Cape May-Lewes Ferry service, catching toads under the pine trees, playing "bunny count" games while driving down Cedar Street (with extra points when a fox or deer is spotted), walking to Kings Ice Cream in town for a late night cone any night of the week. We LOVE Lewes. And so will YOU!

Check out our other property - The Conch Bungalow in St. Augustine - VRBO property ID #567599! Because our Lewes home is a fairly new listing (we had taken it off market through spring of 2017 when we were considering selling it), it has not yet had an opportunity to build up reviews. Our St. Augustine property is similarly well-kept, and we invite you to read the positive comments our Guests there have left about the condition of the house and their experience in dealing with us.

Why Annette Ross chose Lewes Beach (East of Canal)

The Hula House has only had one owner before ours - it belonged to the family of the respected town Fire Chief, who passed away several years ago. Built in 1907, several generations lived in the house until our purchase. Now, our family and friends have become an integral part of the home's history, and we intend to keep this lovely example of classic post-Victorian Lewes Beach architecture in our family for generations to come! Visit us, and you'll see why we love this grand old home.

What makes this house unique

- Walk barefoot to the beach

- Clean, updated, with lovely tropical decor

- COMFORTABLE mattresses and loads of pillows

- Fantastic privacy with 7-foot fence, non-splintering composite deck, outdoor shower

- Location! Location! Location! Some homes in Lewes Beach are located outside of walking distance to the life-guarded beach, away from the restaurants and ice cream shops. Not us! We are a block or two away from everything Lewes offers. (One of our daughter's greatest pleasures is to be able to walk to the ice cream shop late on a summer eve, barefoot and in her PJs)

Great House & Location! Kid-Friendly Beach! Lovely Historic Town! And Delicious Ice Cream!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful time at the Hula House! It's only a short walk (2 blocks) to the Lewes beach, which is wonderful for kids. No waves to speak of, plus low tide reveals sand bars. Also, if you get there in late May, early June, you can marvel at the Horseshoe Crabs annual mating season when they slowly crawl above the water line to lay their eggs. Our kids thought it was magical. Plus, even better, they crawl back out to sea during the day so it didn't prevent us from having water time!

Cape Henolopen is a 5 minute drive (only $10 per car for the day for out of staters) and is a great ocean beach. No high rises, no houses, just dunes, sand and waves (plus a pretty good snack bar).

Did I mention ice cream? Dairy Queen and 2 Dibs are literally yards away. We were able to send our 10 year old out with our 4 year old on an ice cream field trip with no worries! Both are great.

Lastly, the town of Lewes is delightful. Historic, never overly crowded (even on Memorial Day weekend) with some great restaurants. Try Striper Bites in town and don't miss Agave for cutting edge modern Mexican. Delicious plus the margaritas have some kick!

Finally, Annette was great to work with. Easy access. No issues. Really a lovely house for a long weekend or week with great value! Try it, you'll like it!

Large house, close to the beach - some nice upgrades from last stay

  • 5 of 5

We have visited the Hula House two times. The owner is great and the location can't be beat. We have been going to Lewes for several years and you cannot usually find a house within walking distance that has parking, a fenced in back yard, 4 bedrooms, huge deck, and as much charm as the hula house. We'll be back!
