Our guest cabin is perfect for every one from the fly fisherman looking for a quality place of solitude and fishing to a quiet couples get away. Plan your small corporate retreat or reunion around a Montana outdoor adventure, or bring the family and find a bit of something for all.
Outdoor enthusiast. Part time gardener. Lover of dogs.
Robert & Jeanie Winstrom purchased this cabin in 2004
Unique, comfortable, remote yet accessible. You can stay as connected as you like. Or drop off.
Wildlife abounds. Elk, Deer, Bear, Wolves, Coyotes, Moose, Eagles, Ospreys, Otters etc etc. If you like remote outdoors this is your type of place.
Fly fish miles of stream out your front door. Kayak, hike, relax. Bring the family. Have a campfire stream side. BBQ. See the milky way at night with no light pollution. Listen to the critters. Hike the Cabinet Mountain Wilderness and get into country that hasn't seen a soul for months. Epic scenery that rivals any National Park. Yet few venture to see it.
We stayed in Cabin 1. It was a true log cabin inside and out. The other 2 cabins are more house like on the inside. Cabin 1 does not get internet service but we walked over to Cabin 2 when we needed it. Loved it being right on the water with water access. The boys fished till after dark every night. We kayaked up the river to the lake multiple times. We found a rope swing about 1/2 a mile past the island on the right side. The kids had a blast. There is also a fire pit between the cabin and the lake. Only used it once as it was too warm to have a fire. (Didn't get dark when we were there till around 10:30 pm. Cabin 1 sits by itself with Cabin 2 and 3 about a block and a half away. They had everything you would need in the Cabin including washer and dry with laundry soap. Will definitely try to get back there for another vacation. Next time we will try to get family members to come with us and use all the cabins.
My husband and I wanted a mountain view, secluded, creek side cabin for our honeymoon and this place delivered. We stayed in the charming cabin 2 and it was perfect for us. The night before our departure was depressing because we didn't want to leave. The cabin was the cleanest place that I have stayed in and Robert and Jeannie (and Mynx) are truly awesome people. We plan on returning to what we now call "our cabin" in the spring with some friends of ours and we can't wait. I would highly recommend KRO to anyone wishing to find peace and quiet without being too terribly far from town or outdoor destinations such as fishing spots or hiking trails.
I stopped by the KRO fly shop on a hunch... I called and spoke to Robert and immediately knew I had stumbled on a great find. Cabin 3 on Lake Creek is fantastic, if you're willing to walk a bit (and you should), the fishing on Lake Creek can be very, very good. Cutthroat and Rainbow Trout, willing to put up a fight and reward you with their beauty in the net.
I really enjoyed my stay, Robert is a gentleman and he and his wife know how to keep this property in excellent condition. In a way, it's a preserve... and they steward it very well.
I will return here, most likely with fishing friends.
Thank you for the great day on the Kootenai.
Our family of four plus 2 dogs had an amazing time at our cabin! The surrounding property is peaceful and scenic. We had a great time using the paddle boards and canoe on Bull Lake. The cabin has every possible amenity and made our stay very comfortable. Jeannie's homemade jam is delicious! Great time if you're looking to relax or choose to do some strenuous hiking. Loved and it and would definitely visit again! Thanks Robert & Jeannie!
We were so lucky to find these cabins by Robert & Jeanie of Kootenai River Outfitters. Our trip was for quiet and relaxation and boy did they deliver. We travel extensively and have found so many were nothing like stated. Our cabin was nestled in trees overlooking the creek that is at the top of Bull Lake Inside is immaculate and has excellent maintenance- it looks new. The log exterior and interior accents are beautiful. The bar stools, tables, chairs, desk, beds and dressers are high quality log furniture. The beds are very comfortable, towels are plentiful, immaculate and soft. Being a cook I was pleasantly surprised at how well it is equipped. The extra touches and their obvious concern for their guest comfort is obvious. Thank you Robert and Jeanie. We are looking forward to coming back soon.
My mother and I rented cabin #1 for a couple of nights. As soon as I stopped in the drive she was out, taking photos of the creek and asking if this was really our cabin. The photos just don't adequately capture the beauty. We had a wonderful stay. The cabin contains everything needed for a comfortable stay and more. Wildlife viewing and fishing were fabulous. A couple of things about the Libby/Troy area; lodging available in the towns is mediocre at best - and there are limitless possibilities for outdoor activities. The KRO cabins may cost a bit more but are unquestionably worth the price. I look forward to returning for a longer stay with time to use the paddleboards, canoe and kayaks that were so tempting. We are middle-aged and senior females and can verify that these cabins are a great vacation option with lots to offer any group.
Pictures don't do this place justice. Cabins are clean and have everything a couple or family could need. If you are fishing or into water play Bull Lake and miles of stream are out your front door. We BBQ'd on the deck each night. Lots of wildlife around. We saw eagles, osprey, deer, elk, black bear. But missed the moose. If you like to hike the wilderness is right there. We hiked to Saint Paul Lake. Absolutely spectacular. Owners were very helpful. Robert & Jeanie do a wonderful job. We'll be back when we have more time. Loved it. Husband says this is one of the best places we have stayed as a couple. He can fish and I can relax and unplug.
Located on the north end of Bull Lake in the heart of the Cabinet Mountains. An outdoor lovers paradise. Whether you'll be fly fishing, hiking the wilderness, relaxing, or spending time with family and friends we have the perfect spot for you.
Our accommodations sit privately stream side with fabulous views of the Cabinet Mountain Wilderness and Scotchman's Peaks all around.
