Welcome to Jack Pine Cabin, located on White Iron Lake, 3 miles outside of Ely, Minnesota. This lovely cabin features 2 bedrooms, 1 full bathroom with a second half bath in the newly expanded second bedroom. Wireless internet, gas grill and a private fire pit. Comfortable futon couch in the sunroom also folds down for additional sleeping capacity.
The cabin has been lovingly remodeled with new improvements added every year. We have a full kitchen with all amenities, dining room table and nice sun porch with windows all the way around providing spectacular lake views. A sliding glass door leads out to a generous deck with plenty of seating.
While staying at Jack Pine Cabin you will enjoy the tranquility of the north woods while having access to all the amenities of the adjacent White Iron Beach Resort. There is a sandy and shallow beach great for swimming, a sauna, canoes, paddle boats and kayaks for your free use. Motor boats and pontoons are also available for rent. WIBR has a family friendly resort lodge that offers games, books, snacks, good company and great advice on fishing or local activities. The resort also has a volleyball court, a large playground and an area to gather around the campfire next to the lake.
If you come for the fishing, White Iron Lake is spectacular! We sit in a lovely bay with a quaint island offshore favored by bald eagles. The lake itself is the largest in a chain of four lakes that together stretch across 19 miles of bays, islands and 8,000 acres of clean water to explore! We have access to the Boundary Waters right from our shore. White Iron Lake is known for its large Northern Pike and Walleye as well as Bass and Crappies. Guide service is also available. If you're bringing your own boat, a convenient dock space is provided.
For the outdoor enthusiast, there is easy access to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA), one of the most accesible and vast wilderness areas in the United States. Our neighbors include deer, wolves (largest population in the lower 48), black bears, fox, bald eagles, and the occasional moose.
While Jack Pine Cabin is located in the great northwoods overlooking one of Minnesota's most beautiful lakes, it is only a short five minute drive to town. Ely has been called the 'coolest small town in America'. It features many quaint shops and restaurants. There are two full service grocery stores in town for food shopping and even more choices if you're running low on leeches, worms and minnows! The area offers many places to boat, hike and fish as well as interesting attractions like the Soudan Mine, the North American Bear Center and the International Wolf Center.
Jack Pine Cabin is part of a small community of 11 cabins that once made up a family run, canoe outfitting resort. Each cabin is now privately owned and they have all been beautifully renovated. The eleven cabins are whimsically scattered along the shore and up a lovely steep hillside, overlooking the lake. The unique cabins form a magical little alpine village of sorts. It is a quiet retreat in a beautiful wilderness setting with the added benefit of the full use of the neighboring family resort, which is a lovely two minute stroll away along the shoreline!

I am a Lutheran pastor and my wife Lori is a flight attendant with Delta Airlines. Our two girls love coming up to Jack Pine cabin as does our little dog Finn and we are thrilled to share this wonderful place with you! The guestbook in our cabin is filled wonderful memories shared by people from around the country who have spent time in this cozy cabin located in such a beautiful area.
Chad Brekke purchased this cabin in 2008
I believe Jack Pine cabin is located in the perfect place on this beautiful 12 acre lakeside property. Perched on a giant ledge rock and tucked away in the tall pines with expansive views across the lake. Even on a rainy day, Jack Pine is a magical place to enjoy this incredible area.
What a beautiful time of year to be up in the north woods! For some reason, Autumn in Ely seems to be an overlooked season. Jack Pine cabin stays warm and cozy during the cool evenings with a small furnace and quiet space heaters in each bedroom.
The cabin was the perfect place to stay as we explored the area. It's the kind of place you feel no pressure to leave as you sit in front of the big windows looking out over beautiful White Iron Lake enjoyning your coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening. This cozy cabin tucked away among the pines must be made of almost half glass with all of the windows! Whether you are at the sink or sitting at the kitchen table or reading the paper in the sunroom or out on the deck, you have an expansive view of the lake.
If you are not into hunting, canoeing or even fishing, don't make the mistake I did for years in thinking this area is not for you. Ely is a wonderful little town with a surprising variety of good restaraunts and great shops. There is even a great spa called the "Pebble" where we got heavenly massages! Even though you feel like you are far from civilization, the drive from Jack Pine Cabin into town is less than five minutes!
We came up to Ely with another couple so the half bath in the second bedroom made for an extra comfortable stay. We learned that this is a rare feature for a two bedroom cabin in this area. We have already booked Jack Pine Cabin for a return visit next year!
I spent the past week staying at Jack Pine for the second time and once again, I was in heaven! Not only was the view of the lake absolutely beautiful, but the cabin was Just perfect! It was plenty large and still had such a quaint feel about it. The cabin had everything a family would need and then some! I loved the sandy beach, all the wild flowers, the wonderful town of Ely and of course the beauty of the lake! I will be coming back each year!
Jack Pine is really a cool cabin in one of the most beautiful places you can imagine. It's part of a quiet little resort called Retreats On White Iron Lake that very few people even know exists. There are only about 10 cabins staggered up a hillside overlooking this huge, gorgeous chain of lakes. We love that it's only about a 4 minute drive into the coolest little town in America, Ely. Sometimes we even ride our bikes into town to grab the flavor of the day at the Red Cabin custard shop or just to stroll the fun streets full of shops and restaurants.
We are not into fishing but we hear White Iron is great for walleye and northerns. We are more into hiking and biking and there are an endless number of spectacular trails nearby. It's also cool that you can wander along the beach to the busier White Iron Beach Resort nearby to use the sandy beach filled with great lounging chairs or to grab a pop or beer in their cool lodge.
Jack Pine Cabin is so comfortable with everything you need and the owners seem to make at least one awesome upgrade every year. Last year they added an awesome fire pit just off the deck and now we hear they have added a new half bath in the second bedroom which will make it great when we have friends stay with us.
We know the owners of this cabin which is how we found out about this special place. Jack Pine Cabin has become our favorite get away and annual summer vacation spot. The kids love the sandy beach, fun lodge and kayaks. Each time we are there, they quickly make new friends with kids staying in other cabins and it turns into a kind of summer camp experience for all of them. My husband and I love the peaceful setting and the special perch Jack Pine cabin has which gives it both more privacy and lake views to die for! Counting the days until we'll be up there again!
Last year was our second time staying at Jack Pine cabin in the really cool little resort called Retreats On White Iron Lake. Every cabin is cool in this peaceful lakeside community but we LOVE Jack Pine cabin the most. The cabin sits on a giant ledge rock which gives it an unobstructed view out across the lake. Our kids love the new campfire area just off the big deck and they also love swimming and playing at the resort next door. It is so cool that people staying at Jack Pine get to use all the fun stuff at White Iron Beach Resort with is about a 1 minute walk down the shore!
The cabin has pretty much everything you need except for towels which we forgot last year but the Shopko in town (Ely is only 5 minutes away) came to the rescue! There is also a gas grill which we use pretty much every day we are there.
The kids brought friends last year and there was plenty of room in the second bedroom for all four of them to sleep. The futon in the sunroom also folds down into a comfy double bed which kinda gives you a third bedroom if you need it. The bed in the first bedroom is also very comfortable. The cabin is always spotless when we arrive and it just has such a cozy feel even on rainy days. No matter where you are sitting, you have an awesome view out across the huge lake. Can't wait to get back up there!
Our family has stayed in Jack Pine cabin for three years in a row and we just love this special place. Jack Pine is one of 11 cabins that make up Retreats On White Iron Lake which is a hidden gem of a place. All of the cabins are privately owned so they are lovingly cared for and nearly every one has been recently renovated and expanded. Obviously, our family has decided that Jack Pine is our favorite but there is not a bad cabin in this lovely lakeside community.
My husband and I love that we can be in this peaceful and beautiful natural setting but our three kids never get bored because they have the beach, paddle boats, kayaks and fun games in the lodge of the busier White Iron Beach Resort which is just next door. It is such a wonderful arrangement that full use of the neighboring resort is included for those staying at Jack Pine cabin! If we want to stroll over to the resort to join others in the fun around the bonfire we can do so but we also have the option to hang out around Jack Pine's cool private campfire pit right outside our own door.
The owners of this cabin clearly love their place and there are new improvements every year. We are excited to hear that they have just expanded and added a half bath in the second bedroom, which will be a fantastic benefit now that two of our girls are now teenagers!
If you are not familiar with this area, Ely is a great little town full of shops and restaurants and it's just five minutes from the cabin. You are right on the edge of the Boundary Waters so the whole region is breathtakingly beautiful. Our family loves to hike and bike the many awesome trails nearby.
At the end of each day my husband and I usually find ourselves sitting on the deck at Jack Pine with a glass of wine listening to the loons as we watch bald eagles circle the island off shore while the kids play with new friends at the resort next door. Perfect!
A breathtakingly beautiful and peaceful location just a quick three miles from Ely, winner of "America's coolest small town."
