The property has been decorated to a very high standard and offers a home away from home with all modern conveniences. There is a family shower room with a walk-in shower and a small enclosed garden. Please note: maximum 4 adults.
Spanning the whole of the first floor is a bright and spacious living area with a modern and well-equipped kitchen at one end. From the French windows in the sitting area you can enjoy magnificent sea views to the May Island and across the Firth of Forth to North Berwick.
Thank you for letting us stay in your lovely cottage this week. We have had a lovely time. We have been exploring all week finding new places and think this area is lovely.
Spent week here with our three kids. Great property; comfortable, warm, and well equipped (probably the best equipped kitchen I've ever seen in a rental!). TV's been updated since the photos were taken too. Friendly welcome on arrival day. Pittenweem's a charming place and a great base from which to explore Fife. Thanks!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this bright and comfortable home in the charming village of Pittenweem. Attractive decor, lovely view, comfortable furniture, very well equipped with top of the line appliances and anything you might wish for in the kitchen. Great heating system and lots of hot water. Excellent WiFi. Cellphone coverage in this part of Fife is weak, so come prepared to use WiFi-based communications (Skype, etc.) Perfect location for golfers and walkers. We hated to leave, and hope to return soon!
We have just returned from a second great holiday in South Gable Cottage. Over the years we have had many holidays in Fife & this is certainly one of the very best places we have stayed in. It is so relaxing sitting in the lovely light & airy lounge watching the changing seas & skies from the French windows. Walking along the coastal path to the East Pier Smokery St. Monans to eat fresh lobster was our favourite day out. We hope to return next year. Thank you.
I try to rate based on my previous experiences and this place is average in most respects. That doesn't mean that I consider it bad, it's just not "very good" or excellent. The place is not on the water and did not come with any amenities such as soap or shampoo. The shower drains slowly but I'm sure they can fix that. The heat situation is a little weird and is not easy to control. We didn't bother with the tv since it seemed hopeless. The price was reasonable but I would personally look for something a little more expensive/nicer.
The house is in a well appointed base, very easy to get to and find. It is a well kept house with every thing you need down to the toilet roll. We would recommend stopping there to any one. If you a bit unsteady on your feet the stair case could be a bit of a challenge, and getting used to going downstairs to bed. There are great views out of the lounge window, facing out to the Firth of Forth, and the Isle of May. Great stay.
Spotless and well-equipped, we felt right at home. The layout places the living accommodation on the first floor, accessible via a spiral staircase, giving stunning views over the bay at Pittenweem. Opening the french windows and looking out of the Juliet balcony on a sunny morning is a treat. The kitchen is well-featured with quality appliances and we cooked some tasty meals. There is a decent-sized tv and SKY package with wi-if, which was adequate in terms of speed. The bedrooms are a reasonable size and the beds were comfy. The bathrooms were spotless. Couldn't work out how to make the hot water hotter for the shower attached to the combi boiler (shower in the en-suite is electric), the temperature was only adequate, but the water pressure was ok. The rear yard is a sun trap with basic patio furniture that can be moved around to keep in the sun - we breakfasted there as we had great weather. There is a designated parking spot right outside the back gate - excellent! The village is only small and everything is within reach - v friendly people! Would say unsuitable for people with mobility issues because of the layout and the village itself has steep paths down to the harbour area. A great base for families wanting to explore Fife. We booked with Owners Direct and the smartphone app is great, providing info on the accommodation, and places to go during the week, as well as the mundane things like when the bin day is. One feature that could be improved is that on the last day of our stay, we found we couldn't go back and look at check in information, like the code for the keybox outside . Luckily the key fob had the code so we could get in to leave the keys. The booking information was excellent - Adrienne replied quickly via email. Kenny, who manages the property, was in touch to meet us when we landed and was very pleasant and helpful. We'll be back!
There is so much to see and do in this beautiful part of Scotland, you will be spoilt for choice during your holiday. There are many art galleries, bistros, welcoming pubs, water sports facilities, tennis and magnificent golf courses in and around Pittenweem and the East Neuk of Fife, with St Andrews only a 15-minute drive. Courses include Crail, Elie, Charleton, Kingsbarns, the Duke's Course and the Old Course in St Andrews.
The Fife Coastal Path is on the doorstep and two award-winning restaurants are within a 2 mile radius. The famous Pittenweem Arts Festival is held every August. The National Trust for Scotland has a number of properties nearby and there are some beautiful gardens to visit. Perfect for a memorable Scottish break at any time of the year, with lots to see and do for all ages.
