Located above Lake Morey, this beautiful home can comfortably house nine people overnight in a master bedroom suite, two large bedrooms and three small bedrooms. From the all-season sunroom, you can watch deer, turkeys and other wildlife right in front of you. A formal dining room, two living rooms, laundry and large kitchen make it easy to host an event such as a small wedding, family reunion or business retreat. On the property are hiking trails, and a small cabana on Lake Morey provides access to the lake.
My brother and I grew up in this beautiful place and live nearby. We would be happy to share our knowledge of the local area so that you and your family or organization can have the experience of a lifetime in our childhood summer home.
Lillian Gahagan purchased this house in 1955
We grew up having the place that was the magnet for our extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins and we all have wonderful memories of the many Thanksgivings, Christmases, summer family reunions and weddings that we shared with each other and many friends.
This is a really comfortable, simple but elegant country home that overlooks an apple orchard, Lake Morey and big views of the New Hampshire hills to the east and Mount Ascutney to the south. Have you ever hung your clothes up on a clothesline to dry? We have and they smell great after being dried by the sun and the breezes in the hills. If that idea doesn't appeal, don't worry, we also have a great washer and dryer and many other customary conveniences.
Nice place to stay but unfortunately not in the summer months. House was listed as having air conditioning and a private pool. Upon arrival unfortunately the house had neither with the exception of one window unit in the laundry room for a 6000sf house. When I questioned the owner about AC she stated there use to be other window units in 2 other rooms but her siblings took them for their own use. The afternoon temperatures were 90+ degrees in the upstairs bedrooms. I had booked this stay for a family reunion of 9 people and it was a complete embarrassment to have my guests dripping sweat each afternoon. Well at least they can jump in the private pool to cool off. No they can't as that didn't exist either. There was a scary pond that almost no one would swim in (my guests thought I was crazy but because of the heat I did swim in it)
I also had another couple in a room listed as a queen. It turned out to be a full which they basically couldn't fit in as a couple. Again an embarrassment to me as the host.
Finally the Wifi and telivision service didn't work. After multiple hours of troubleshooting on my part the owner did finally get a technician out to repair so we had wifi/tv for second half of our stay. Owner did provide 2 bottles of champagne for the wifi problem. Keep in mind cell service is limited in his area so wifi is essential for those that need to keep up with work etc.
After my constructive criticism of the amenities the owner did change some things in the listing. Although to date it still shows AC and Private Pool in the homeaway App. The somewhat updated listing will hopefully help future guests.
Had a wonderful stay. The owner was a delight to interact with. Large home, got together with 3 small families to have a little reunion and the place was perfect for it -- plenty of space for all of us.
Have your privacy while being able to access I-91 to reach Dartmouth College. Other cultural and shopping hubs close by. Within walking distance of the Aloha Foundation camps.
