Overview

About the property

Hosts live upstairs - guests have exclusive use of entire first floor!

This completely renovated home is located in a quiet tree-lined neighborhood just two blocks from the beautiful University of Puget Sound campus.

Hosts live upstairs on the property with their own bath, kitchenette and living area, but share the entrance to the home.

Guests have full exclusive use of first floor of this spotless home - two bedrooms, full bath, living room, dining room, fully equipped kitchen, laundry and great front porch.

No minimum night stay requirement. Ample free parking.

No pets or smoking please.

Easy access to local amenities, waterfront restaurants and downtown Tacoma.

This home has undergone a very long and extensive, COMPLETE remodel. All work has been done by us. "This Old House" enthusiasts would be proud. We have striven for an English country cottage look - down to the numerous gardens and hand-planed white picket fence.

To reiterate above information: Guests will have use of the entire first floor where guest bedrooms, full bathroom, laundry, kitchen, dining and living rooms are located.

Hosts live upstairs and share the front door/entrance with guests.

There is a living room with wood burning fireplace and big screen HD TV; fully equipped eat-in kitchen; dining room; laundry room; and front porch with old fashioned porch swing and wicker furniture -reminiscent of days gone by. You have complete access and use of common areas. Enjoy your morning cup of coffee or afternoon cocktails overlooking our lovely gardens.

Parents visiting their student(s) at UPS are always welcome. We are literally two blocks from the main entrance of see the Administration Building from our property.

We designed our renovations with the intention of offering UPS parents a welcoming place to stay when visiting their children at the University.

Prepare their favorite meal and have them bring a few friends over for dinner; build a fire and watch a movie with popcorn and a glass of wine; bake their favorite cookies; have them over for their favorite dinner.

We have our own bedroom, bath and sitting room on the second floor, so will make ourselves scarce. We do store some items in the refrigerator but make every effort to be unobtrusive when/if we need to retrieve anything.

Two blocks from the beautiful University of Puget Sound campus; within one half mile of the waterfront; within walking distance to the charming Proctor District (and STARBUCKS); one mile to Old Town (and another STARBUCKS); two miles to the waterfront restaurants and walking trails; and, three miles to downtown Tacoma; 30 miles south of Seattle.

Logistics:

* 45 minute straight shot on I-5 South from SeaTac Airport

We look forward to sharing our home with you.

About Kathleen McCormack

Kathleen works for the Employment Security Department with the State of Washington.

Originally from Pittsburgh, PA. Former Montessori teacher and Realtor.

Dave is retired and spends his time renovating this home and planting and nurturing his gardens. Originally from Spokane, WA. Former business owner and Realtor.

Why Kathleen McCormack chose Tacoma

We bought this home because we wanted to be in this specific neighborhood due to its proximity to the University of Puget Sound.

We previously lived in Bellevue (a Seattle suburb), and wanted to escape the ever-increasing traffic and exploding population.

Tacoma is the perfect sized city for our tastes, with access to all the Seattle amenities only 30 miles away

What makes this house unique

We bought and designed the renovations on this home with the intention of offering UPS parents a welcoming place to stay when visiting their children at the University.

Prepare their favorite meal and have them bring a few friends over for dinner; build a fire and watch a movie with popcorn and a glass of wine; bake their favorite cookies; have them over for their favorite breakfast...

Welcoming and thoughtful

Very nice grounds, people, and furnishings. Nice, thoughtful touch. I appreciated having somewhere so close to campus to come and stay. Especially somewhere so welcoming.

Cozy comfortable cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We were in town visiting our kids and beautiful grand daughter. The cottage was the perfect place to rest and recoup. The cottage had everything to make our stay feel just as close to home as possible.

The host couple couldn't have been more welcoming.

It was a great getaway experience!

Tacoma house

  • 5 of 5

The house was lovely, and the owners were wonderfully kind and welcoming. We arrived later in the evening than expected, and when we asked about food delivery options, Kathleen came downstairs with a book in her hand, saying she would take us to a local gourmet grocery store and read in the car while we waited. Both Kathleen and Dave were friendly, warm, and gracious.

Owner's Response: Candace and Marilyn were incredibly friendly and exceptionally easy guests. They were quiet, respectful of our property and the kind of guests that we would gladly welcome back on a repeated basis. Would like more just like them.

Peaceful, cozy, warm and friendly.....

  • 5 of 5

Dave and Kathleen were 2 of the best hosts we've stayed with! Their home is situated in a beautiful, quiet neighborhood. When we first arrived, Dave was gracious enough to take us to the nearby grocery store so we could grab a few meal items to begin our stay. THANK YOU again for that kind gesture! We LOVED the way the home was decorated and everything we needed was provided and then some. The fireplace was great, the bathroom was beautiful, and the bed was SO comfortable. We would absolutely stay here again when we have an opportunity to come through the area. THANK YOU again Dave & Kathleen!
