Spend your summer in a charming, well-furnished mountain-view bungalow. Enjoy the beautiful, tranquil, private garden; dine under olive or fig trees (two outdoor dining tables), or relax on the sunny patio or under the camphor tree. Cook up a storm in the well-equipped kitchen. Wake up to mountain views right from the bed. Enjoy the friendly neighborhood, with wild parrots, deer and more. Walk to great restaurants and shops in "downtown" Sierra Madre. Hop on the nearby 210 for Pasadena, Huntington, CalTech, JPL, and more, and take the Gold Line to LA.
The bedroom has a queen size bed, with an armoire and closet for plenty of storage. A mid-century style bathroom offers shower over tub, obviously a toilet, sink with lots of counter space, and a medicine cabinet for all your necessities.
The kitchen is compact, but with loads of counter space. Plenty of pots and pans, various cooking implements, dishes and glassware will make meal prep easy. A microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, stove, and of course a sink are all there, too. Basic herbs and spices are there for your pleasure.
The living room is furnished with Arts & Crafts oak furniture and accessories, and is very private from the road, though overlooking the mountains to the north. TV, with cable, wifi, and a land line are on hand. The bright dining room, again with Arts & Crafts furniture, is a lovely place to eat or to work. From the table, you can see people hiking up and down Mt Wilson Trail.
This is a little piece of paradise in a wonderful community!
California born and bred, I moved to southern California 12 years ago to be a grandma. Now a mostly retired landscape designer. I love travel, being with friends old and new, gardening, reading, nature, walking or hiking, volunteer work (Pasadena Playhouse, Gamble House), most animals, cooking & eating! I also find myself renovating funky old houses, including this one, which was a very sad derelict that I've turned (with lots of help!) into a yummy little jewel.
Tanya Lazar purchased this bungalow in 2008
I LOVE Sierra Madre! It's a small town adjacent to trendy Pasadena & bustling LA, nestled up against the San Gabriel Mountains, which you'll see from all the north-facing windows! I gutted the house and started over (except the built-in closets & the bathroom), so it's a very comfortable Arts & Crafts style home (tho not an A&C bungalow). The garden, all new except for the trees, I designed for maximum outdoor living, which is great year round here.
It's a perfect town for walking--whether into "downtown" for errands (post office, drug store, Taylor's Market for a fantastic butcher shop, Arnold's old fashioned hardware store, or shopping the boutiques or art center), or for an al fresco meal in one of many restaurants. Hang out at Beantown, take a leisurely stop at the pub, stop by Mother Moo's Creamery for AMAZING ice cream, or simply stroll through town to check out charming houses and gardens--and perhaps meet the new Vietnamese pot-bellied pig. Or head into the canyon for Mary's Market popovers (Saturdays and Sundays early, or by order), or explore some of the tiny streets and "secret" paths. Or maybe walk 5 minutes to Mt Wilson trail for a hike (1.5 -7.5 miles each way!) , or go to Bailey Canyon for another hike.
Santa Anita Racetrack, the Arboretum & Santa Anita Mall are minutes away. In addition to their various garden areas, the Arboretum offers summer pops concerts. Huntington library, museums, and botanical gardens are just a few minutes farther.
Nearby Pasadena offers loads of trendy restaurants, bars, cafes, & shops, several movie theaters, famous Pasadena Playhouse, Boston Court theater, museums, Gamble House, flea markets at the Rose Bowl & Pasadena Cty College, to name a few of the attractions.
Sierra Madre Villa and Arcadia Metro stations provides free parking for the Gold Line, which takes you to Union Station in downtown LA.
👀. Awesome mountain view, with hiking trail 1/4 mile away

🍳 Very well equipped kitchen
The cottage was well maintained and amply furnished. It met all my expectations and needs. The owner was prompt and conscientious in responding to all my questions. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.
What a wonderful location! This very cute bungalow is extremely comfortable in a lovely green enclave. One large bedroom, one nice sitting room, a galley kitchen. Huge picture windows offer a panorama of the San Gabriel Mountains. The decor is carefully curated Arts & Crafts style. The landlord is wonderful and generous and accommodating. You'll feel right at home. The tiny neighborhood is off the main road, so there's not a lot of traffic. But it's a short walk down to cute little old Sierra Madre, where you can find some nice restaurants, an ice cream parlor, a cute little community theater, and lovely parks. I would absolutely stay here again!
