Beautiful beach home on remote out-island
We visited Pleasant Dreams with our 3 small children (6, 3, and 1), and we had an amazing week. The beach is incredibly secluded and the shallow, calm water was perfect for our little swimmers. The sand is so soft that you'll actually sink up to your ankles in some spots! The kids also enjoyed exploring the area on the kayaks, and my daughter even did a little snorkeling on the reef near the point. The house is clean and comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook all our meals for ourselves. A lot of the previous reviews talked about the bugs, and we did walk away with a few mosquito bites, but not enough to negatively impact our enjoyment. We did struggle a little bit with the large biting flies. The bites are painful and the kids really didn't like it. Fortunately, they don't bite for a few seconds after they land, so you have time to swat them off. They also don't show up until later in the afternoon, so we usually took them as our cue to head inside and start making dinner.
The one thing that you really need to understand about this property is that it is in a remote part of the Bahamas that does not have a lot of amenities for tourists. While the idea of that might seem charming, it can make parts of the vacation stressful. This area was hit hard by a hurricane (I think Matthew in 2016), and the effects are still visible. There are a lot of buildings that were never repaired, and some businesses didn't reopen. I only gave 4 stars for communication because some of the information that the owner sent us turned out to be outdated. We were able to find a store with groceries, but the selection of food is limited and everything is very expensive. None of this was enough to ruin our vacation, but it is something you need to be realistic about before you go.
Finally, I'd strongly recommend going on a snorkel trip with Charley. My wife and daughter went and they still haven't stopped talking about it. My wife has snorkeled a few different places and says this is the best she's ever done. Also, the only sharks we encountered were some small nurse sharks, which are very docile.
Beautiful setting, wonderful memories
We had a wonderful time and would love to come back someday. Steve went out of his way to make sure we had plenty of information about our stay. Charley made sure we were comfortable and took us on a great fishing trip. We made so many memories that we’ll cherish.
pleasant dreams fishing trip
Pleasant Dreams was everything I was looking for when booking this trip for 4 guys for a fishing trip.
The house: Plenty of space for 4 guys on a fishing trip. The bedrooms had comfortable beds and pillows. Air conditioners in every room with ceiling fans were a bonus at night. The "master" bedroom has a feel of being by itself with its own bathroom and shower. It would be a perfect space if you wanted to have a more private setting away from other guests. The living room and kitchen had everything you need to be comfortable and views that pictures cant describe. The kitchen was equipped with pots and pans for cooking and a few spices. (make sure you bring your own if you have something specific you want) Outside there is a nice patio and also a screened in patio for when the bugs come out in the evening. (they will) The outdoor shower was a nice to rinse off with after a day in the water or fishing.
Fishing: for those who are headed here for the fishing here is the short breakdown of our experience. We had 4 days of fishing planned. The first and third day we hired Philip Rolle (and his other guide "Bones") for 2 boats. He showed up right at our beach to pick us up promptly at 8:00. We headed out to Joulter flats and had great success. I cant say enough about Philip, Bones and their knowledge and dedication of getting us onto fish. The other 2 days were DIY. There is a flat at the end of the point that you can spend hours on hours wading looking for the elusive bonefish. The 2 double kayaks provided were great for getting us where we needed to be on the flat for the day of fishing. We got onto fish throughout the entire flat. We spent 2 full days there and only covered about half of the area that could be fished.
What a great experience overall. It was exactly what we were looking for. If you are looking for isolation and a feeling like you are on your own private beach this is for you. I cant wait to go back!
We had a wonderful trip filled with lasting memories! Sounds schmaltzy but it's true. The house and the grounds were very well attended - the caretakers and the owner contacted us while we were there to ensure our comfort and to provide insights on how to navigate for local needs (bread, beer, etc). Charlie Bowleg provided us with 2 days of snorkeling and exploring the beauty that is Andros. Steve has really thought out what it takes to have a fulfilling vacation using his property and has provided most everything you could need. I was impressed.
For those of you who read this prior to your departure to Pleasant Dreams, read Steve's Welcome letter thoroughly to ensure your trip is everything you were hoping for. Contact Charlie in advance of your trip and book him early so you can get fresh fish for dinners for the rest of the week! His snorkeling trip should not be missed.
I can't say enough. Thanks very much. We'll be back.
Great home on the beach
Nice beach house on a private bay. Snorkel for lobster right off your beach or use the kayaks and paddle boards in the protected bay. Because the house and bay are protected from the wind, no see-ums can be a problem in the morning and evenings if you are outside. Some bonefishing near-by although the majority is at least a 30 minute drive for do-it-yourself fishers. Close boat ride to the Joulters. The owner was very responsive to all questions and the house keeper came over right away when there was a problem.
The house is located 110 miles due east of Miami with Nassau 34 miles to the west. Berry Islands and Chub Cay to the north.Joulter Cays visible from the house. Ten minutes by boat and you are on part of the third largest barrier reefs in the world.
